Not enough dice included?!

Not to rain on the parade of people loving/hating the dice, but wouldn't it be possible to assign the outcomes to numbers on regular dice? Like for the fortune dice 4-5 is a success and a 6 is a boon? Would this really be a huge problem?

I believe when they were playtesting the dice idea they used 'normal' dice and put stickers on the sides. So, that or just assigning numbers would be doable. It's just a matter of how you keep track of which side = which symbol. Stickers, a table, etc will all do the job, but will be more work to set up and/or keep track of the results. Keep in mind, specific sides have specific symbols, so you might not be able to say "4 & 5 are success and 6 is boon". To match what the official dice have, it might be more like "2 & 4 are success and 6 is boon" (vague example, since I don't have dice with me to check for opposites, etc)

Assuming the die is fair, relative position of faces doesn't matter.

I understand that people dont want to share dice if their made of precious metals or gems (yes such dice do exist) - but most are layd back and adults (those that are adults that is ;-)) so that dice sharing is not a problem. Its social interaction after all . . .

Well... usually I'm an adult, but in case of dice (no matter what are they made of), I'm a 6 yo spoiled brat in a berserker stance demonio.gif .

So YES IT IS A PROBLEM (for me, and MY dice lengua.gif ).

Hehe! I quite agree. I've never come across this dice obsession while playing. Dice are dice, and nobody seem to care whose they're using really.

You could also go with the Joe Dever "Lone Wolf" method and make a chart with all the symbols on it. Then you wave a pencil around while not looking and poke the eraser end at the chart. Whichever symbol the pencil landed on is your result!

I've never heard of Artic Game Lab which is not surprising given that you don't appear to know anything about roleplayers. Often they love their dice, loads of players have a "Lucky Dice" that they roll when it matters most. Second point a lot of Roleplayers are not in fact adults, many are teenagers or even children. Where the hell did you get the idea that roleplayers were laid back? Most are mental rabid psychos and WFRP fans have something of reputation for being even more so than most roleplayers.

I'm not fond of the custom dice... at all!

If you ever played Descent you know that one set of special dice REALLY slows down the game time and I should say that one set of dice just ain't enough for the game... and this is a game when all the rolls are open and you usually use about three different types of dice for each roll. And a mayor factor to keep the game speed up is also that the players can sort out their dice pool for themselves and don't have to ask the Overlord for support for each roll.

Now when we want to include this board game mechanism into a role playing game you got about 5 different types of dice for each roll AND you have to ask the GM for each roll if he want to add special dice for different difficulty and fortune/misfortune.

As a MINIMUM I would say that the GM should have a complete set of dice behind his screen (when I GM I actually have a own table separated from the players) and the players should have one set to share... MINIMUM! When we play with the 2:ed rules all players have their own set of dice and at least in my group we use our own personal lucky dices, it just feels better=).

An additional sad detail in this mess is that the Dice pack they are about to release doesn't seem to cover the dice need for one player... and this is REALLY weird!

That means that in my book the 100$ price tag doesn't cover the "minimum" acceptable gear to play with 3 players... for 124 bucks we got at least almost 2 complete sets of dice.

And with a group of five players I would guess that I should want at least one additional set, and Im not even sure If we should need additional Adventurers toolkit to keep up with cards for the players... is it really one extra kit for each additional player? Thas should make a initial cost of 208 bucks... so I think I will pass on that one!

I'm just surprised that the Dice pack doesn't include one random special rare die, that's just a bit cooler than the special common dice...

And remember that everyone that express at least some form av negativity for this game is a Troll...

I like the custom dice, but I agree with some people here that the extra dice packs do not seem to come with enough dice.

My experience with Descent tells me that you need at least 3 full sets of dice to play with 5 players (OL + 4 Heroes) so I think you would need a similar number of dice sets for WFRP3. I hope FFG decides to sell also full sets of dice or at least individual dice so that we are able to have enough flexibility.

The only real problem I see with pools of dice is the time needed to decide which dice to throw. This time would be greatly reduced with the appropriate number of dice on the table.

Yeah, of course we all are rabid psychos... jeez... And dont you take the small joke in the there...

So you presume I dont know anything about roleplayers? Okey... I dont now you so I dont push views in your face.... Please allow the same curtesy go both ways.

AGL is a small, Norwegian game Lab, producing free settings and systems. Concubia Nocte have been revealed on BRP central with another few settings made for BRP. So its not commercial and therfore only by word of mouth.

The inference I made was that I am a rabid psycho as is everyone on the forums. Normal people don't come here.

I have played Descent with five and six people, and we didn't have a problem with the dice supply.

It's been mentioned in other threads, but the use of a box to keep and roll the dice in will be very handy for this game I think. It keeps all the dice centralized and can easily be passed between players to share. I don't see the number of dice as a major problem.

Wow. How can you splurge like that on full sets of 2nd edition dice for EACH player?

Well... isn't that EXACTLY what this discussion is about!

The game works just perfectly with two d10!!!!

Instead were discussing a INCOMPLETE dice set for 12 bucks... When we want enough dice to keep the game speed up here THEN its time to discuss splurge.

Oh btw... didn't have that word in my vocabulary... had to check it up and really enjoyed the term... thx =)

Hey, no problem. :)

I suspect I will want to buy an extra dice pack as I think the core dice set will be insufficient. I am not keen on the price of the extra dice, but if the system is as good as I think & hope it will be (particularly from my players' perspectives), I ultimately won't mind.

The real issue for me is whether or not it will be sufficient to spread the dice out to the players at the table or not. I don't know right now as I haven't played the game yet and don't know what the breakdown for the average rolls is going to look like yet. We can theorize here all we want, but until I get a look at the rules and play a couple of times, I won't know for certain.

After reading todays diary I'm absolutely sure, and I will say it LOUD

NOT ENOUGH DICE INCLUDED

START SELLING THEM INDIVIDUALLY OR IN BIGGER PACKS

preaty please gran_risa.gif

You must pay extra. $11.95 for more dice, if FFG gets enough players they'll make a killing on dice alone. No wonder they wanted to come up with a new dice system.

After my cold dead body.

Those dice sets they have in shop right now are no more than pure LAUGH.

No way, I'm buying them.

Looks like my poor players will have to think of something to roll... marked stones maybe... hmmm...
