Extra munitions! what I and i think all of us were looking for!

By Arrowstorm123, in X-Wing

Extra Munitions! This card has just almost singlehandedly fixed the games ordinance mechanic! This is an answered prayer! Sure, the new missiles and bombs will be cool I'm sure but I'm totally psyched to put this on a K-wing and see all the havoc I can unleash with a doubled arsenal of secondaries! This will outfit these new ships and even the old bombers with some amazing tech! can't wait to see how you all and my local begin to employ this card!

P.S. does anyone know exactly when the second quarter is??

First, have a look around the forum. You're in the minority thinking this card fixed ordnance (second, it's ordnance). Third, a quarter is one-fourth, therefore each quarter of a year is 3 (of 12) months, making the second quarter months 4-6. Given that we're already in month 4 and that almost nothing else has come out in the scheduled quarter, I'd say 2nd quarter 2016 maybe.

I thought you were being sarcastic at first. It's not really an ordnance fix, it's a discount on stuff that's still pretty meh. Unless you are a TIE Bomber, Punisher or K-wing it's saving you, at best, 4 points if you take it and an Advanced Proton Torpedo. Still for a total cost of 8. It starts to add up for the multi slot big bombers but the stuff you're spending those points on are still just okish. The two slotted ships it's just not all that useful for, and the single slot ships are left out entirely.

The second quarter already started, April through June. Which means we'll get it in July or later ;)

My reaction to Extra Munitions: big <sigh>

Yep I'm pretty disappointed with Extra Munitions as an Ordnance Fix.

As Otacon said it's really only a discount that fits best with ships that equip multiple ordnance slots.

It doesn't fix the action economy problem or the lack of hitting power that comes without a TL+Focus or an appropriate EPT offensive boost. Nor does it help low PS ships with the TL range issue.

This does nothing much to encourage X-Wings, A-Wings, TIE Adavanced or Defenders, etc. to take ordnance.

Could make Nera Dantels a little more interesting though.

Happy 4/20! The other April Fools...

I like the fix. It's not a panacea, but it's a nice improvement. It'd be even better if ordnance had its own attack phase before all other attacks.

I was looking for Extra Munis, only at 0 points and requiring no slot (but also not affecting bombs, so eh)

It's a good card that will vastly improve non-bomb ordinance, but it is certainly not enough to make the card competitive. Climbing to the surface is a great feat when you've been buried under the garbage dump for years, but there's still a whole mountain of problems to climb (stupid target-lock requirements)

Uhhhh.. it improves bombs as well.. I fly bombers almost exclusively with bombs or mines.. having 2 times the number is more pain and confusion for my opponent... and these new mins are gonna be awesome.. dont discount the bombs and mines my friend.. they are just as devastating as other ordnance.. and dont cost you a targetlock... dont have to be in arc... I love a PS 2 bomber that moves before my opponent so I can drop it on him and give some damage before he moves (prox mine that is) no matter what damage gets to him...

Just the other day I killed a ship with a proton bomb hit on a TIE.. direct hit was nice.. the other 2 that got hit were a stress and console fire...

Prox mines are a hoot when 3 hits come up.. or a couple hits and a crit.. its happened.. and yes, I've seen 3 blanks come up.. that's the nature of dice.

my intention was to state that bombs didn't need the improvement

(definitely not to the extent of ordinance)

I do think the bombs tend to be a little better than missiles or torps.

but those 3 blank/focus prox mines make me cry. Seriously. The prox mine should have its focus. =/ If it did, I would consier spending 3 points much more frequently.

hmmm, a partial fix only. the target locking restriction to fire ordnance not named homing missile is hefty. lets hope FFG fixes this as well.

maybe bombers need Fire Control System for free?

So, uh, Emon Azzameen will be sh!t-flinging more bombs now because of Extra Munitions, right?

Only if he takes the Slave I title.. and then only 2... he's better off taking his own title and getting 3...

We weren't promise fixes.. just that of we liked bombers.. this wave was gonna be a good one... and it is.. for bombers.. and ships with more missile and torp slots... and bomb slots...

I'm not disappointed.. and sadly.. I'm in the minority... people got no appreciation...

We should all start calling it a bomb improvement not an ordnance fix. Seams more appropriate

One thing is pretty clear.

This is not the fix many of us were waiting for. It saves a few points, and it probably makes Bombs worthwile taking on ships with large payloads and a free torp slot. I can see a Punisher or K-Wing with Bombs cause lots if trouble now, especially a SLAMming K-Wing!

But it does not fix a lot for Two-slot Ships like the Y-Wing and B-Wing. It's a little discount for stuff that still is hard to use and get benefit from. They'd probably still prefer turrets and cannons. And it does nothing at all for one slot Ships like A-Wing or X-Wing or Advanced. Also still no reason to take a Heavy Scyk with Missiles/Torps!

Why not simply introduce a tapping mechanic where you can use your Ordnance every 3 rounds. That would have really fixed ordnance! And even if they had to do a card like this instead of just errataing ordnance, why is extra munitins not at least free, and a modification instead of a torp, so any ship could use it?

I usually love FFGs fixes and ideas, but i think this one has undershot the mark by a huge lot!

Yes indeed you are right. They buffed bombs quite a bit and they were mostly worth their points already contrary to Torps/Missiles. Sad story!

I like all of what you said but the tapping for 3 rounds I find ships dont last that long to get extra use out on the one card but yes it should be free

Ordnance fix? Extra munitions is not a fix at all. Widening the gap between bombs and other ordnance. You still don't get enough bang for the buck. Instead of a useless missile I can now for two points more have two useless missiles per slot.

Can't wait till Major Juggler mathematically points out the errors of their way. They should have done a rules change.

I'm going to laugh when you all get slaughtered by ordinance and EM

I'm excited to run

Scum Boba (39)

Lone Wolf (2)

K4 Security Droid (3)

Cluster Missiles (4)

Slave 1 (0)

Extra Munitions (2)

Seismic Charges (2)

So, the Extra Munitions card takes up a torpedo slot. Which instantly limits it's use to ships with have more than one torpedo slot or a torpedo slot and a missile or bomb slot.

B-Wings, Y-Wings, K-Wings, TIE Bombers, TIE Punterdictors, (one) Firespray.

While a potential second Proton Bomb discount is quite nice, it doesn't address the main issues of using ordnance - i.e. low PS targeting and action economy. First impressions say that some pilots (Horton, Nera, Rhymer) might appreciate the upgrades, with generics this just seems like throwing good points after bad.

B-Wings and Firesprays will still mostly be better off with cannons. Y-Wings with Turrets (and titles).

I think the greatest benefit Extra Munitions brings to the table is saves you the *cost of a ship*

A single TIE Bomber can now field the ordnance of equivalent of roughly 2 ships for fractions of the original cost.

What was around 46pts (2x Scimitar with Flechette, IPM, Seismic) would cost 25pts (Scimitar with Flechette, IPM, Seismic, Extra Munitions) that is a difference of 21pts saved for other upgrade options.

There's also immediate benefit with EM and the higher priced Ordnance. 2x APTs equally cost 2x PTs (without EM) 2x PTs cost equal to 1x APT. I'm sure Horton Salm is quite happy with this new upgrade.

Other Y's can combine this with Bomb Loadout meaning Scum can have access to Generic Bomber/Mine Layer with 2 bomb slots.

Rhymer's going to have a Field Day very soon. It might even be longer than a Day.

While this upgrade doesn't "Fix" Ordnance, it definitely makes those Specialized Ordnance Carriers job of fielding those weapons more practical or at the very least reasonable.

Also the VT-49 Decimator, if you want to double your bomb.

Exactly. FFG never said this was going to make munitions amazing on all pilots of all ships, they just said it was going to be good for bombers.
