My awesome weight loss progress!

By Millennium Falsehood, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Okay, I just had to share this tonight. I started losing weight a year ago. My starting weight was 268lbs, and at 5'10" that's a lot of weight for my frame. And I said "Buck it, I'm going to get in shape!"

And I started dieting and exercising. Mainly counting calories, but I tried some good, healthy diets and they had great impact.

Currently, I'm at 213 lbs, and it's rapidly dropping off now that I'm going to the gym regularly and have a personal trainer. I'm really happy about this and am looking forward to doing some cosplays, with an eye toward joining the 501st. :D

What!? You're putting your personal well being before finishing those decals for us!!?

Priorities fella .. where are your priorities??

Meanwhile i'm trying to gain a few pounds so I can finaly cosplay as a rancor keeper! :D

What!? You're putting your personal well being before finishing those decals for us!!?

Priorities fella .. where are your priorities??

Yeah, that's just selfish.

*Sigh* I have no excuse... other than to say that the X-wing decals are practically finished. ;)

Congrats man, that's awesome.

Congratulations and keep it up!

I'm 5'11'' and did 262 to 171 in an unpleasant way a few years ago. You're going to be stunned at how much energy you have but don't get complacent. In my thirties I'm finding it harder to maintain.

I discovered a great weight loss plan about 18 months ago. It's called unemployment. With suddenly limited funds coming in, do I save up and by the odd expansion or do I buy food. Needless to say the fleet's looking good and I now need a belt to hold up my jeans. Seems like a win-win so far.

PS: MF, outstanding so far, keep up the good work!

LOL sounds like me in my student days. Limited allowance + Magic the gathering = renewed appreciation for mother's cooking and/or abstinance from fast food. :)

Good stuff fella.

I used to be incredibly fit and active but since taking a spinal injury in the forces I cant run, lift weights etc anymore so i struggle to keep my weight in line with how i'd like it to be. The only small mercy is im on massive amounts of oxycontin so my appetite is pretty supressed.

But i know how tricky it can be to shed unwanted weight.

I do have to say thought that i've read about all sorts of fancy diets, fasting programmes, atkins diets etc etc but only one system is guaranteeed to work *every* time.

I call it the

'less cake, more exercise diet'

Its just pure and simple making sure i burn off more calories than i eat, even if its only going for a long walk (or as long as my back can stand) or yoga or Tai Chi (low spinal impact exercise) and saying 'no' to the desire to have biscuits with my tea or a bag of chips and a soda (or as we in the uk say 'crisps and pop' : ) )

But seriously, well done dude, stick at it.!

I'm patiently awaiting the day my metabolism starts to change for the worse. Currently I can still get away with eating whatever, though I don't test the limits of that. As far as exercise goes, my job is 100% physical but I can only do so much due to Achilles Tendonitis (caused by the job).

I think im lucky in that i've always had a pretty fast metabolism and i've often spent long periods of time every week outdoors which helps (weeks at a time in the army).

I can still fit into clothes i bought like ten years ago a t the mo but a few years back I couldnt as i'd put on quite a bit of weight. The wife and I both made an effort to eat less and do some more exercise before our wedding.

Wastn easy at all but we managed it and ive managed to keep my weight about the same but Sians struggled with it.

I dread the day I start to look like my dad. When I started college, it started happening. It's hard to eat healthy when you're broke. But I get tons of time to walk around at work (public safety...my entire job description is pretty much "walk around for the next 8 hours) and through martial arts. Slowly starting to trim down.

Congrats so far, and best of luck in your future endeavors!

When I finished my dissertation I was 124kgs, I was a big boy, but I've lost about 20kgs over the past few months with regular exercise and not eating like a student.

Good job bud, its not easy for guys like us

Looking like your dad creeps up on you.

Most guys see a 17 year old looking back at them when they shave in the mirror in the morning but a while back i grew a beard that then became a moustache.

I'd have a wash in the morning and i looked just like my dad when he was my age.

My mum really noticed it so i shaved it off as i didnt want to upset her as shes' never really got over losing him.

I'm sorry to hear that last bit.

But I know what you mean. Facial hair isn't allowed with my job, but before I was here I had quite the beard going. Sad to see it go. Now I get carded everywhere I go, save for the bar I frequent because the bouncer knows me. Bummer.

Cool Brother. We sit at desk to much now a daze.

;)

A brisk walk often helps.

You just need to raise your heart rate above its normal level for at least 30 minutes, then you start to get some benefits.

Im always suspicious of 'miracle diets'

I think its much more important to get up and move about a bit more, even if its just a walk and also to still let yourself have treats a soda, a candy bar, chips etc just make it an 'end of the day treat' rather than 'every few hours'.

Has anyone come across the idea of 'standing desks' at work. Apparently they can make you more productive, are better for your back and help you lose weight.

If you work for a large company talk to HR or occupational health about it.

Hersey's DARK Chocolate is great for you too. You get some value health wise and it is lover in sugar than most treats.

;)

I read that as " Heresy dark chocolate." I've been reading to much warhammer 40k stuff again. ;)

Im always suspicious of 'miracle diets'

Me, too. In fact, the only reason I even did the Military Diet was because it had no special foods in it and didn't exclude any one food group. It worked wonderfully, too.

Firstly, good on you fella. Keep it up. I've had some mates over the years who slogged their way to a desirable weight for their various reasons (weddings, health, impress the ladies - impress the lads in one case). It's hard work but achievable. I can respect the effort required to do what you're doing.

Secondly, you'll hate me for saying this but I've been 75 kgs since high school (almost 20 years ago). I run almost every day and do the odd weights. I lead a reasonably active lifestyle and just can't put weight on .. despite eating what I want , when

I want.

I've also never had a hangover. People don't believe that. Well, not until we have a huge night and then I wake them up at 6 to go for a run. After, come home and make pancakes. My wife (who isn't a morning person) loves it!! .... kinda.

Yeah i also don't have hangovers. Gotten wasted a good few times, but never woken up going "oooh god my head! it hurts! Noise bad! noise bad! aaargh!" :D

When I was a young fella, I thought my mates were faking it because it was 'cool'. I never understood that is was real.

LOL!

Ever had the feeling the room was spinning when you were drunk? Only had that once, and I still blame it on the Cthulhu figure I had with me*, rather than the booze.

*What happened was: I met up with a few friends for St. Patrick's day, had a few drinks, left the pub and went to my local gamestore, saw they had the horrorclix Cthulhu fig in, and instead of just asking them to hold on to it for me, I bought it right then and there, took it with me back to the pub, got drunk, and somehow managed to get home with it intact. When I got home, my room was spining. Moral of the story: Don't go drinkin' with a Great Old One, it won't end well. :D
