Official Wave 8 Speculation Thread!

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

If fantasy flight has any sense, they'll do the xg-1. I'd know I and all the myriad people posting home brew cards etc for them would throw money at them for it.

Well if rebels want more astromech ships, they have plenty from the PT era to choose from...just sayin

From the guy that predicted the Decimator.

I predict Tie Droid and Tie-Wing. Both would be the next lowest point ships but would really have low stats. Super cheap to fly, but low combat effectiveness.

Tie Droid - PS would all be low (1-3 plus a wingman pilot card), but variability in pilot cards would be based on EU themes of better programming, hull, upgrades, etc. 2-1-2-0. PS 3 might have 2-2-2-0 with cannon slot.

Tie-Wing - PS would be low to medium (1-4), probably no named pilots. Upgrades include a myriad of options, possibly escalating in conjunction with PS. 2-1-1-1 Named pilots (PS 5) may have something like 2-2-2-1.

I also predict that the Tie-Wing will have rebel and scum pilots, two for each faction. When The Action Transport / Wild Karrde is released, it will come with extra Tie-Wing pilots. The Action Transport will be a multi-faction ship. It technically works in the EU as a "scum" ship, an Imperial freighter, and a Rebel troop transport.

I wouldn't mind seeing tie droids, I think there is some potential design space there that isn't present in any other (non-prequel) ship.

But if they are going to do one of the uglies (and I doubt it), then I think they should do an entire wave of them. If your gonna do it, then commit to it, don't just throw out a single tie-wing and see if we like it.

I could not agree more (on both counts).

I suppose rather than a wave it could be a special "Ugly" pack of 3-4 ships Most Wanted fashion.

Kind of an Ugly Wave.

The Scum gets some X-TIEs, TYE-Wings, etc.

The Empire gets some TIE droids, maybe the TIE Hunter and TIE Raptor.

The Rebels get the E-Wing and K-Wing in alternate paint scheme. ;)

I would buy 3 of them at least

One of the designers flat out said that Uglies are unlikely to see approval by either FFG or LFL.

I don't see it happening. There's plenty to draw from without going down that route.

And this makes me very, very sad.

Wave 8:

Skipray Blastboat (Scum)

Chiss Clawcraft (Scum)

TIE Droid (or Hunter?) (Imps)

Ghost (Rebs)

Next will probably be an aces pack of some sort, and then the next Imperial Epic which will be the TIE Starcruiser.

I'd still be fairly surprised by the Clawcraft even if it would be very cool.

Although, at this point, I think whatever they pick for 8 is going to surprise me.

Alas 'tis but a fools hope, but it is one of the few TIE variants that deserves to be in this game.

I still REALLY want to see the TIE Starcruiser as an epic ship :D :D

I was going to say I'd buy 4, but 3 would probably leave room in Mu(u) Flight for a Vast Wan Void Wildebeest.

The Rebels take on the Starcruiser was pretty cool, but it's not epic-size. Closer to a shuttle or smaller.

You mean this?

That's about the size of a normal CR-90

But now I realize that it is atmospheric, so never mind. But the overall design is TIE Starcruiser-esque.

Heavy Y-Wing bomber... because I have an obsession with Y-Wings, and having a four-engined one in the game would be amusing

TIE Starcruiser? It obviously can't technically be a cruiser or it would be way too big to be in X-Wing. If a small Frigate is too big for X-Wing No way a cruiser which is bigger then a large Frigate will be.

I've always like the Sentinel-class Shuttle since I got one in the old SW CCG, and it's canon. I wonder what the odds are we'll see one? I imagine it as being a beefier Lambda (complete with Sensor and Cannon slot), with another Crew slot, a Missile slot, and a Combat Upgrade title that adds 2 hull and a shield for a bucket of points.

Fun fact, every wave in the game has had a canon ship.

Wave 4: Defender

Wave 5: YT-2400

Wave 6: Y-wing

Wave 7: YV-666

Have the Defender or the YT-2400 actually been confirmed as canon yet?
