Wave 7 Article is up!

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

It looks like the ordnance fix is 2 part so far.

1st part is this:swx33_card_upgrade_14.png

And the second part seems to be in the form of alot of new missiles and torpedoes.

Sigh.

I do not like this fix. It doesn't address the action economy problem with munitions, which is much worse than the single use aspect, and it makes them even more expensive to equip. How often during a game am I likely to even spend more than one of those ordnance tokens? Probably not very often.

EDIT: Wait. It goes in the Torpedo slot.

...How is this a fix at all? To equip it I have to surrender one of my slots. Most ships can't even use it.

What.

Nera Dantels, Horton Salm and Krassis Trelix all think you're knee jerk reaction is uncalled for.

And they can continue to think that. It doesn't change the fact that getting a second copy of an unplayable card means taking the unplayable card in the first place. Those 5+ points spent on Nera could be... well, quite a lot of very useful things on anyone else, same applies to Salm, and Krassis can just take a cannon that won't wreck his action economy and can be fired all game long.

Extra Munitions, much like Munitions Failsafe before it, completely misses the point as to why ordnance is never played, and thus will change exactly nothing.

I think Alex Davey's words got a bit morphed over time. I don't think that he ever said there was a "fix" coming. I think he mentioned that if you like bombs/ordnance that you would like Wave 7. It was the community that assumed a fix was coming. Clearly FFG made an effort to improve things not to mention they haven't even spoiled everything yet.

My comment was more directed at the craptastic attitudes that we've been deluged by. It's not surprising given this forum has been on a long downward spiral. It is however very irritating.

I see all these posts from people ripping the ship choices apart, talking about how "ugly" the ships are while ignoring the fact that the photos of the actual models themselves appear nicer than pretty much any rendering that's ever been done of them previously.

I look through a bunch of these spoilers and I see some amazing pilot abilities, new game mechanics, new ordnance, new EPT's...I mean seriously, what is it that some of you people want!?!?

Nevermind. I don't want to know, because if you already are complaining about what they have so far unveiled I have zero interest in learning what exactly brings you joy in life.

Am I missin Something or can the named kwing pilot take HLC and use her special for a 5atk turret?

Why take bombs on this thing again?

She can't take HLC. That's a Cannon slot: she's got a Turret slot.

HLC turrets are a consequence of the Outrider Title, which she also cannot take.

???

The K-wing doesn't have a cannon slot, it has a turret slot. The upgrade bar is Turret, Torpedo, Torpedo, Missile, Crew, Bomb, Bomb.

EDIT: Though she does have easy access to a 3-dice Autoblaster Turret. That could have some applications.

Hmm, so far the two best candidates for Glitterstim (in my mind at least) is Guri with Deadeye and Advanced Proton Torpedoes and any of the IG-88's. I didn't realise robots did drugs.

Forgot to mention that the Hound's Tooth looks like it will deliver everything I could've wanted from it. Bossk's one of my favourite characters. Such a fun mix of complete d-bag and semi-worthwhile ally. I've been praying for his inclusion since before Scum was even a real thing, and I'm glad his whip looks like it will be viable in squads.

Never considered dual YVs before today, but they look like they might actually be decent.

Bossk & Boba will certainly be high on my list of squads to try, as well.

I'm trying to figure out who the heck the other named YV pilots could be... I was confident they'd end up being that pair of people who kept stealing The Hound's Tooth. One was a Wookie named Chenlambec, and I forget his partner's name.

But the snippets in the preview look like names that begin with "Lat..." and "Mon..."

I suppose the first could be: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lafek_Iss

As for the other, some candidates are:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Morrng (Trandoshan bounty hunter)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Montross (Human bounty hunter

Definitely, but its also a nice little bonus for any 1 ordnance slot scum ships as it improves the action economy quite a bit

I called deployment on these very threads months ago... and was flamed for it. I'm not usually one for "I told you so". But... I told you so.

Emon Azzameen with 3 Cluster Mines is going to be fun!

Ugh, there had better be a real ordnance fix. I'm not happy at all.

I wish people would quit calling the Twin Ion Engine card a defender fix... this has nothing to do with the defender... artwork doesn't dictate the ship it goes on.. otherwise push the limit would never be used on the Interceptor...

I agree with what was said further up... no fix was promised.. only that if you liked bombers you should like this wave... and I LOVE BOMBERS!!!!!!!!

I ran out of likes or I would have tapped that one...

This wave is awesome for bombers.. be they TOE, or Y, or the new K and Punisher.. I cant wait to try out all that new ordnance...

Bombs away!!!!!!!

Huh?

It obviously *does* have something to do with the Defender if the text reads "TIE" only, because the TIE Defender will be eligible to equip it. And if it can benefit from equipping it, it could be considered a Defender fix.

Ummm No... its a TIE only upgrade.. meaning it is good on ALL TIE ships.. it isn't a fix for just one of them... seriously... besides.. the defender needs no fix.. 4KTurn... no fix needed....

My guess is any 3 maneuver to a green maneuver.

I kinda doubt it - that doesn't really do a lot for any of the fighters, actually, and would risk making the TIE Interceptor absolutely crazy OP.

EDIT: Wait. It goes in the Torpedo slot.

What.

Well, it works for all the 'bombers' in the game - Y-Wing, B-Wing, K-Wing, TIE Bomber, TIE Punisher, etc.

It also works on the Slave-I and the Decimator. It drops the Proton bomb to 3.5points and on the Decimator most of the time you will be able to get both off.

Ummm No... its a TIE only upgrade.. meaning it is good on ALL TIE ships

Just because it can be equipped on all ties does not mean it will be beneficial to all of them. A tie fighter can equip a stygium particle accelerator too, but it won't do it any good.

Based on the text we can see it is very likely that the card is making certain maneuvers easier. That means it will probably have a bigger impact on the larger, more ponderous ties like the bombers and defender. Given the nature of its dial, it us not at all unreasonable to hypothesize that the defender will gain the biggest benefit from it. That is by no means assured, but it is the most logical conclusion given the available evidence. So, yeah, it can be put on any tie, but it will (probably) have the biggest effect on the tie defender because what it looks like it does is compensate for the defenders biggest weakness. That does make it a fix for the defender, just a broad ranging fix instead of a laser focused one.

I dunno man, you're not making much sense to me.

You realize that when people dub it a Defender fix they don't mean that's it's exclusively useful or useablel on the Defender, right? They're just guessing/hoping that whatever benefit it confers works particularly well on the Defender, regardless of how useful it might be on other TIEs.

Wish more of the card was visible.

But, on that note, there looks to be an interesting EPT in the Kihraxz:

Ligh(tning)

Ref(lexes)

Scum Only?

After you (reveal a white)

or green (maneuver? turn? on your)

dial, you (may discard this)

card to (turn your ship)

180°. Then (receive a stress)

token aft(er completing the)

(turn)

Blast, I was just going to post the same thing about lighting reflexes. I came up with the exact same text for it.

One shot k-turn turn (or a 90 degrees s-loop if you prefer).

Here is the SLAM card

swx33_card_ref_04.png

And this is good for...? I don't get it. So now I can get in great position to...drop a bomb maybe?

It is a cool flanker tool, but I don't see the K-Wing being a great flanker.

What does this card pair with that I am missing?

Adrenaline Rush lets you do this off of your Koiogran.

If this has Segnors' Loops instead, it gets insane

Particularly if either is Speed 3 or lower.

It also works beautifully with an Intelligence Agent as a blocker. Pity you don't have a large base for Anti-Pursuit lasers.

Alas, the last line of the card means you can't use it with Advanced Sensors. Doing your X Forward/Turn followed by an X Koiogran....

Not only can you do a SLAM on a K-turn if you have Adrenaline Rush... you can K-turn again, since that maneuver is still white from Adrenaline Rush!! (treat this maneuver as white until the end of the Activation Phase) This puts you in the same exact position with no action.

Oh, but there's no EPT on the K-wing...

Is there a System slot on the K-Wing?

I can't tell for sure... but it looks like the upgrade bar might be: System / Torpedo / Torpedo / Missile / Crew / Bomb / Bomb

Edit: Nope, nevermind. It's obviously got to be a turret slot.

I wish, but its a turret slot, you can tell because the K wing come with some sort of Twin L- Turr- card

Kind of curious as to what that does. R1-2, 2 dice, 2 attacks maybe, sort of like a mini-cluster missile?

OK, Hounds Tooth and Kihraxz both look like must-buys to me.

The arrival of the SLAM action sets up future (Imperial) waves nicely.

That ps9 pilot ability is a bit delicious.

Double all range bonuses.

It's just a worse mauler mithel ability

Have you noticed the Hound´s Tooth has 6 hulls in the cards, but 7 in the ship bases?

Maybe a mistake?

Y'know, this might be okay:

Take Miranda, pair her up with Garven. Give Miranda the Adv. Proton Torpedoes, give Garven R2-D6 + Veteran Instincts.

On the engagement, shoot first with Garven, spending & passing your focus to Miranda. Miranda gives up a shield to roll 6(!!!) attack dice at R2-R3, turning blanks into eyeballs that she can use Garven's hand-me-down focus on.

I guess you could double down with Extra Munitions and/or Failsafe if you want / if you have 2-3 extra points kicking around after you fill in the rest of the list (and you have a surprising amount of wiggle room for said filling - the two named pilots with the mentioned upgrades are only 63 points).

Oh, and hats off to whomever updates Yet Another X Wing Builder. You're the boss.

EDIT: No, this can't be right. Is it? That seems stupid; you would instantly kill any TIE fighter or TIE interceptor almost without trying so long as they flew even a little bit into R3.
