All ships can currently have 1 modification upgrade, but it does not require an icon on the ship card.

How about a pilot upgrade option?

It would be just like Ship Modification and you can only have 1 per ship, but adds a new dimension to the ship, and can only be used on non-unique ships.

I think he is mostly just suggesting another card that works like a modification (any ship can take it), but is not a modification card specifically. My guess is so you can avoid overcrowding the mod slot with too many options, but have an extra design space to be able to tweak all ships.

I could see something akin to this. Maybe flag it as a Pilot Upgrade, and include a Pilot Upgrade Rule Card that says each non-unique ship can take up to one Pilot Upgrade.

Upgrading the pilot doesn't require an upgrade card.

It simply requires using a different pilot.

I think everyone is a bit too worked up about the "pilot" part of it, that was just an example. It is just another "mod" slot that isn't a mod slot.

His first thought was a "pilot upgrade". It could also be a Tweak card. Or a Refinement card. Alteration card. Retrofit card. Whatever.

I think the idea is that these are non-unique. Then again, we already have A-Wing Test Pilot and Heavy Scyk, so at this point just about anything this idea would accomplish could be done with titles.

It would be better applied for making TIE Advanced in prototypes of the various different test models since FFG is not going to be producing all the TIE variations.

This and the X-wing will be the two that could take model number variations as they have the most cannon history of all current ship classes.
