Bought some expansions and have some questions.

By Scaresoul, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Ok, I'll get right to it.

1: Does Finn technically start with 18 dollars? (8 from fixed and another 10 from bank loan) or just the 8 and is screwed over with only a chunk of a bank loan?

2: Some of the personal stories state that character X can spend Y amount of clue tokens at location Z. Can those characters use clue tokens from the violinist?

3: Speaking of the violinist; does she get a token on her personal story every time she DRAWS a unique item, or every time she RECIEVES? Cuz..draws..well just have to go to the curiosite shop once and BANG that one is passed.

4: Is there any way out of Devil reef or the other place just south of it? (Very complicated name) aside from being aquatic or thru encounters is there a way?

1- Finn start the game with 8 dollars, he had already spent the 10 dollars in his extra equipemnt and skills.

2- This depends on the phrasing on the background card, but if nothing particular is specified I think you can use the Violinst token if the player allows it.

3- In my group we assumed that she have to draw and keep a unique item to satisfy her background conditions, otherwise after a single visit to the curiosity's shop she would complete her BG.

4- There are 4 ways out of the Devil's reef area:

  • An encounter here that send you back to the mainland
  • Someone else paying 2 dollars at Falcon Point to get you back
  • Certain Mythos card that allows a player to move to another location (like Charity Run)
  • If you are playing with more than one expansion elements certain spells or objects can help you too (e.g. Mi-Go Braincase)

#1 is covered in this thread:

#3 is covered in the sticky thread "Official Answers by Kevin Wilson", on page 2 (answer is the same as what woodclaw said).

Going unconscious/insane will bail you out of Devil's Reef too.

The Fed (sorry cant remember his name) from IH gains a Clue Token and $1 each upkep if he has less than 2 of either during upkeep.

Q1: if he spends either during upkeep to bring his total below 2. - does he get $1 / 1 Clue Token in that upkeep?

Q2: If the ancient one is Nyarlathotep does he win hands down, or is his ability to gain clue tokens limited during the battle against the ancient one?

1) Upkeep actions (unless otherwise noted) can be taken in any order of the player's choice. I'd say it's legit first to spend one of Roland's two clues for the Fed raid track, and then to receive a clue because he's below 2.

2) Yes, this means that without Epic Battle or some other toxic circumstance (an ailment that drains sanity or stamina or something, until he dies; or something that prevents his combat check from ever going above +0), he wins hands-down. I have therefore decided that he cannot use his ability during Final Combat against Nyarlathotep. He officially stops receiving money anyway, so why not just say he stops receiving both? For consistency's sake, I say he can't use his ability during any final combat.
