My friendJudson (and co-host of Intensify Forward Firepower!) did an awesome tutorial on how he added LEDs to his Star destroyers.

I'm not one of those people that generally spends tons of extra time on these sorts of things, so you should know that it really was relatively simple to get it all to come together.
Nice!
Did you find the cool white LEDs give a nice effect for the engines? Or are you finding yourself wishing you used blue LEDs?
That's brilliant!
Excellent! Thanks for the tutorial! What size lights did you use?
@midge, I selected 8" wire with three chip sized "cool" color lights.
@invis, I'm happy I went with cool, because the light reflects nicely off the blue painted interior of the cone, giving it a bright blue at the interior that mellows into a darker blue at the edge of the cones. Also "going with cool" is just a good phrase to live by, even when used at inappropriate times like discussing how to add lighting to Star Wars thrusters.

Excellent. Thank you. Really appreciate you posting this. I don't mind cutting into my models to add lights, but I never want to be the first one to do it!
I'm going to be slightly more ambitious and try and light the four ancillary engines. I believe there is enough room in there for some nanos.
My God. It's full of lights.
@midge, I believe you're right, and the 3v has plenty of juice to power them all as well. I eagerly anticipate seeing your finished VSD!
@Matt, hahaha yes!
