'Search your deck' and Titles.

By furriebarry, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Can someone please clarify two issues for me;

1. When a card allows you to search your deck for a particular card type does it mean that you go through your deck from the top and use the next appropriate card or can you actually search your whole deck and choose whichever card you like within the parameters.

eg. If a card allows me to serach my deck for a Stark card and put it on top of the deck. Do I put the first one I find on top or can I search my whole deck and choose any Stark card I like?

2. If your title gives you a +3 for any type of challenge does it mean that all attacks of that type against you are automatically defended?

eg. If I am the LCotK and I have +3 Military. Someone else chooses to attack me using a Military Challenge. I choose not to use any characters to defend. Is this challenge considered undefended and does my opponent therefore take one power or does my Title mean that I automatically defend all Military Challenges?

Thank you.

1. you can check on your entire deck the card you want cause they don't say you have to choose them on some order.

Rules (titles' definitions) clearly states that "... in which you have at least one participating character."

1. Correct. Searching your deck for a "Stark character" means you look for any one you want. Anyway, how could you enforce "the first one from the top of your deck" without revealing your entire deck to your opponent? Search effects look at the deck as a whole without any consideration for order.

2. As Rogue30 says, the rules for the titles specify that you have to have a participating character in order for the "+3" to be applied. In addition, the basic rules for resolving challenges say that you cannot oppose or win a challenge (attacking or defending) in which you do not control a participating character. So without a participating character, you cannot even count STR during a challenge, regardless of the source.
