Monthly Tournament in Madison, WI

By KennedyHawk2, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hi all,

I'm Board in Middleton, WI will be hosting monthly tournaments using FFG game night kits.

The tournaments will be hosted on the third Monday of each month from 6-9 PM. Entry fee is $5.

For more info on I'm Board visit their website. http://www.imboardgamestore.com/

We'll be running the first one tomorrow and it will be three rounds of swiss. Since this isn't a premier event we'll vote when people get there and see if anyone wants to use the Ally Pack maps or just those from the core set.

Hope to see a lot of people tomorrow and each month!

We expect about 5-6 tomorrow if you are going to be there let me know and we'll make sure everyone is there and checked in.

Matt and I should be there. We are grabbing jimmy John's next door before hand so text me for some reason we aren't there by 6.

I Vote we use the 3 maps because of I know some of us are going to the other WI regional in a few weeks.

Ended up with 4 players. We played just the maps legal for regionals. We had some timing issues, most matches took over an hour and the store stayed open for us and another game until about 9:20 so that worked out but in the future we may start these tournies at 5:30 with 70 minute rounds.

Round 1 was Smuggling Goods winners in bold

KennedyHawk vs Dan #1

Dan #2 vs Matt

Summary for KennedyHawk vs Dan #1:

KH took an early crate using gideon and rebel saboteurs, he ended up grabbing the middle crate turn 1 and bring it back in slowly the next few turns. Troopers and Fenn took the side with the hallway/door and secured that crate but were left out of the action as the other two crates were the main fighting grounds for the mission. IG88 was downed early with some lucky saber strikes and saboteur pierces and even though two crates got home for KH Luke was still snipped down by a trio of focused rebel troopers. Critical dodge was the dice side of the day, 3 white critical dodges for KH keeping units alive longer than they should be.

Round 2 was Get to the Ship winners in bold

KennedyHawk vs Matt

Dan #1 vs Dan #2

Summary for KennedyHawk vs Matt:

Really touch match, royal guard champion was all over the map with 4 officers and 6 speed. Sabateurs were able to snipe the probe droid out first turn which evened up the activation counts, eventually a few officers fell and the royal guards were forced to split in order to stay alive. Several sabers strikes on the RGC eventually took him down, score 16 points off of objectives (two colored and 3 uncolored controls). The center was a bloodbath. Even with the ideal mission set up blast was only situationally useful. I think I used it once to hit a royal guard and blast onto the Champ. Well fought match that came down to Pierce versus defense rolls for the champ. Champion got to use his revenge ability 3 times and brutality twice. I tried to spread out enough to avoid this but sometimes it had to happen to lure out the RGC. Really tough match.

Round 3 was Close to Home winners in bold

KennedyHawk vs Dan #2

Matt vs Dan #1

Summary for KennedyHawk vs Dan #2:

Interesting match up. Officers got Wiess perched on the T area of the desert portion of the map and he was always about 6 range away from my saboteurs. I had Lock on and Deadeye in hand so I kept trying to range him from super far and see if I could get some damage or stuns on him. I usually was only able to get 1 damage and didn't want to waste my cards eventually I moved them in to build up about 9 damage on him but he offed a bunch of sabs. Probe droids claimed two tokens for the crates and sabs also claimed two in the desert before both groups had to run for fear of giving up points. I think my regular and one set of elites was dead by games end. My unique units focused on the hallway versus a pair of royal guards and a Nexu. Mak managed to roll 3-4 critical dodges in the span of 5-6 attacks and due to some positioning I was also able to claim the hallway crate. At this point Luke used urgency to sneak around the corner and kill Weiss with a saber strike. Needing two points Jyn tried fruitlessly to kill an imperial officer who had been hanging out with the General. He critically dodged, then we he activated she was able to hair trigger him. My opponent was up to 29 points and was set up to claim one more crate after the officers activation, had he critically dodged again it would have been 36 to 38 going into the next round!

Did you have setup timing problem? This was not the case at the con and with four people I would think it would run really fast.

I think it was mainly people learning a bit still. We had enough printed maps for two tables so set up became a non issue, especially when we randomly drew back to back missions on the same map.

Matt had only played I believe twice before that tournament. I am really slow thats why I like area damage squads.

One interesting thing was that we saw a lot of model diversity.

The only figrues not fielded were:

-E-web Engineer

-Vader

-Han

-Chewy

-Garhkahn

-Diala

-AT-ST

That's a pretty good turn out for 4 players!

Overall we had:

Two Imperials

One Scum

One Rebel

and two alliance cards were used.

Yeah I am not amazed. I don't think this will be the case when regionals roll around though. I think we will see a lot of Vader and guards.

We all know I am playing Rebels and my sab build. I do think the meta is very limiting when it comes to top level play.

Hey When is the next event? Anyway we can use the new map list even though we will have to use the regular map list at the regional.

meine gott!
