LFL just reconned the Tie Interdictor after that book was published. Most likely because the finally realized they had a Capital Ship and a Starfighter with the same name.
There is no such thing as a Tie Interdictor anymore.
Same ship, new name. The evidence would suggest the sourcebooks have more leeway than the miniatures game.

Do you actually know this or are you just making something up to try and explain the available evidence?

"Most likely" indicates the latter. It's pretty overwhelming evidence though. It's identical in both appearance and behaviour (reduced agility, extra shielding) and Interdictor has a specific meaning in Star Wars this ship lacks.

The "Most Likely" was in reference to LFL's motives for doing so. He categorically stated that it was LFL's decision rather than something FFG did for some reason.
For all we know, it was a clerical error and FFG will fix it tomorrow. (OK, not likely, but it bugs me when people state conjecture as absolute fact, that is how most rumors and false information gets started.)
Well if you ask me, Punisher seems way better than Interdictor.
Not that I care. I'm just going to imagine that every torpedo is a big demon hand punched out of the front of the ship.
I like the name interdictor better because that's what you'd do with a missile carrier that can go fast (boost). See: Mig-25(35?)
I was kind of assuming that they renamed it because they are planning in Interdictor Cruiser for Armada and didn't want the same name in two different product lines to avoid confusion.
Jim
I dont know about interdictors but i do know i love the spanish way of putting a question mark or and exclamation at the start of a sentence as well as the end.
I like how it tells you the tone of what you're about to read before you read it.
with English if you're reading aloud to someone you often dont know the tone it should be in until the end of the sentence.
Totally of topic and on a tangent there but I always hoped english would adopt that convention, its never going to happen but i do like it.

Now that you mentioned it, I'd prefer it as Tie Inderdictor.
Zoom in fast guns blazing, unload all the ordnance you have and GTFO before any space superiority fighter show up.

I doubt FFG has the ability to rename ships, so they'd have to ask LFL to do it. That, and they already included the interdictor with its original name in the RPG. Unless the X-Wing designers specifically went to all the effort to change it it's overwhelmingly more likely to have originated with LFL.
To save confusion why don't we just combine both names, so everyone will know what we are talking about. We can call it:
TIE Inpunterishdicertor
See how simple that is!
Besides, I still can't think of the name punisher without recalling the fat, toad faced gungan from TPM, who tells Jar Jar he is to be 'pyoonished'. TIE Pyoonisher doesn't have the same ring to it.
I can't even use the Focus action in a game without recalling that scene from Hellboy 2; It has become know as the 'Fockyoos' token in most of my games.
Edited by phocionI hope they catch it before print and rename it interdictor. This seems like an unnecessary retcon.
The name interdictor doesn't make much sense to me, to interdict is to deny an action. If this TIE variant had gravity generators, I could see it. Carrying lots of ordnance does not equal denying an action.
The age of rebellion rule book also has "imperial army troopers", troops that are front line infantry, something that has been shown in canon to be the domain of stormtroopers. The point, is that the RPG book is not necessarily the definitive source.
They were created for the game galactic battlegrounds, its not the FFG canon that's being rewritten, its from that game. All that aside, its more that it just seems like an unnecessary rewrite is all.
Wookiepedia claims they are the same ship and they look identical so I'm guessing that Emrico is right and they want to avoid name confusion with the much better known Interdictor Cruiser.
Yup.
Wookiepedia says it all:
Same great ship with a whole new name.
TIE Interdictor = TIE Punisher = Advanced TIE Bomber
I blame the mouse.
I had the same debate with players in my gaming group. Someone mentioned that it may be skewed into "inter-****-her", making for a PR nightmare (so close to the release of The Force Awakens). I don't like it, but I can see why the change.
In jest, what should Frank Castle's stats be? ![]()

There is not even an Interdictor anymore... Now its an Immobilizer cruiser.
I think renaming the Tie Interdictor to Tie Punisher is like a bad joke.
But ... you guessed it ... nobody asked me
An interdictor is a type of attack aircraft that operates far behind enemy lines, with the express intent of interdicting the enemy's military targets, most notably those involved in logistics. The interdiction prevents or delays enemy forces and supplies from reaching the battlefront. The term has generally fallen from use. The strike fighter is a closely related concept, but puts more emphasis on air-to-air combat capabilities (fighter part).
In the post-war era, the RAF introduced Interdictor variants of their English Electric Canberra jet bomber, the aircraft being available as the strategic bombing role had been taken over by the new V bombers. An early interdictor was the F-111, an aircraft able to operate at long distances from its base. The Panavia Tornado was built for a similar purpose, although operating over shorter ranges in the European theatre. The Soviet Sukhoi Su-24/Sukhoi Su-34, Chinese Xian JH-7 and the aborted British TSR-2 are similar interdictor designs.

The people that made Galactic Battlegrounds were stupid to call it the TIE Interdictor in the first place, given that it was already a term in fairly wide use for something else in the EU.
I'm somewhat worried that the TIE Aggressor might receive a similar name change since Aggressor is already in use by all of the IG-88s.

The Immobilizer 418 is just a single class of starship. Interdictor is a term used in the EU to describe any ship equipped with gravity well projectors.

The Decimator is probably a better interdictor than the TIE Frank Castle.
