All this wave 7 bashing...I'm glad I don't know EU!

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

I have only read TWO Star Wars books my entire life the original and one Han Solo when I was a teen! I'm so glad I didn't read anything else or play any of the video games, etc, to give rise to the hate of some posters for this wave!

I am happy with every new ship as it expands the game and makes it even more unpredictable, no matter what I think the ship looks like!

FFG keep 'em coming!

Knowing the EU doesn't necessarily lead to bashing Wave 7.

This is true. I have read many if not most of the novels that have come out since the nineties, some are great, some not so much, and I am really looking forward to wave 7. My extensive EU knowledge/love is making me want to bash episode 7 though.

I'm with the OP. I missed out on the comics and PC games, so I'd never heard of the Moldy Crow or any other EU ship until FFG brought models out for them. So I've no objection against any new ship.

That said, there seems to have been a bit of a mental block over the past 30 years. Slap on a round canopy and call it a TIE "dominator/castigator/defibrillator" and you're good. Likewise presumably there will be a "Q-Wing" and an "F-Wing" before the rebels are allowed to run out of ship designs...

The Rebel ships that deviate from -wing in the EU are the Defender which is a dismembered cockpit with legs and the Empire gets stuff like the Preybird which looks like it's from outside the Star Wars canon. The -wings and the various TIEs manage to maintain the Star Wars aesthetic. Originality for the sake of it has a bad history: designs that try not to reference other Star Wars craft end up not looking like Star Wars craft.

The things that get really original pre-prequels end up really derpy. Ships start out in novels, a sourcebook gives them an appearance and it doesn't usually end that well. The comic book stuff tended to be middle ground and the more recent video game content tends to be much better: SWTOR and SWKoTOR came out with some great stuff.

Q Wing would be an upper case Q with a B wing style cockpit in the Q's little kickstand part. The U wing could then dock in the center of it. That would actually be pretty fun game play wise LOL.

The o wings were faulty and blew up on takeoff. *stifles laughter*

The K-wing is honestly my second favorite ship in all of Star Wars, behind the X-wing. It probably has to do with the Black Fleet Crisis being the first Star Wars book that I read, and my love of WWII aircraft.

When is wave 7 going to be added to the news page?

Maybe later this morning?

Knowing the EU isn't the problem. It's the fact that some people are very vocal about what they think should be everybody's opinion on the way a ship looks. It doesn't matter whether you know EU or not.
