A new medium base size could add another depth to learning movements and ranges and things, I am not opposed to it.

But, I'm not sure that 1.5 small base size is different enough to make it make sense it might also add another layer of rules, like for deployment. Heck, it just muddles up deployment since you can't stack 1.5 base sizes in a row, nor can you reasonably fit a small base and a 1.5 medium base in a row because of the numbs on the bases.

Would it be cool? Probably. Is it feasible with the current game and/or worth the manufacturing cost to FFG? Probably not.

I'm not in favor of a medium sized base. I don't want to have to carry even more bases with me now to play.

doubling the area of a square (while keeping it a square) is one of the hardest things to do in geometry. I think the 2x2 large base and the 1x1 small base is sufficient.

Have they not developed the square root of two where you live yet?

As I mentioned before it is built into the square so doubling the area is EASY to do with geometry. Where it gets hard is trying to do the figures algebraically as you have that irrational number do deal with. It would be a bit like trying to figure out how far a turn goes when you need to use Pi in any equations.

I'm still not clear why doubling the area of a square is relevant. A small base is 40mm to a side, a large base 80mm. A medium base would sit right in the middle and be 60mm on each side. Area seems fairly irrelevant.

I've got little idea why the area of the square would matter either. To me they'd be using a bases with the edge length half way between the small and the large. Of course more area underneath a base does mean more opportunity to land on something else or have something run into you.

I thought the StarViper would be a golden opportunity to make use of a medium base if there ever was a thing. It would work well for this game, like the above HWK and K-Wing examples.

Absolutely not. Larger bases make a ship faster, counterintuitively so. Large bases were a mistake.
