Please let them give the space battle that was going while the plans were being stolen a decent amount of attention.
So I'm guessing the faint outline in the sky was the Death Star looming over this jungle forested planet. Two possibilities spring to mind, one Legends, one Film Canon. The Legends location I'm thinking of is Despayre, the prison planet over which the Death Star was ultimately finished and destroyed during superlaser testing. The second possibility is Yavin, just before the main battle.
Edited by Oden GebhacI'm pretty sure Jungle + Death Star + Rogue One trailer = Yavin.
Again, fun to speculate. I'm gonna go with location it was parked during construction.
Given that the plot is about getting the plans for the Death Star in order to give to Leia, and it is stated to be pre-ANH, and therefore pre-Yavin, it'll be Despayre.
I like the idea of a more morally grey Star Wars, showing that bad things happen, war isn't all roses, and the 'good guys' aren't always 'good'.
Also, no Jedi is a bonus ![]()
Where are you guys getting all your info? All I've seen is one handheld clip of the trailer.
There is some detail in the CNN article link, mostly just about the timeframe.
Wookipedia. Various novels from the EU/Legends. It's all speculation of course, extrapolated from what was seen or heard in the short clip.
From the article.
"The movie will take place in between "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "Episode IV: A New Hope" (known to many as the first "Star Wars" movie from 1977).
A group of rebels go on a rogue mission to steal plans for the Death Star. Jones will play a rebel soldier."

So.. I hope for the Battle of Toprawa... and the Pacification of Toprawa.. would be epic and dirty at the same time I think...
I think you might see them use some names of places and such, but they've been pretty clear moving forward, the details of anything are not likely to be drawn from Legends material to any degree of specificity.
I read it in this article.
I suppose the new canon might as well get one of the most overdone plotlines of the old EU out of the way.
I'm looking forward to this but if they manage to screw up Rogue Squadron of all things, I'll begin to lose hope for the new content and probably just bury myself in older books.
This would give a good explanation as to why EU had to become Legends, hard to write a movie with all the baggage surrounding it not getting contradictory.
I am super excited though. I love the 3 movies quoted as being inspiration; Zero Dark Thirty, Saving Private Ryan and Behind Enemy Lines.
its going to be interesting seeing a Star Wars movie without the Force as a major plot/character point too, more a war movie in space "there are no super heros or wizards to save us, so we had better do it ourselves"
edit... dam auto correct!
Edited by RichardbuxtonThe surprise is the near immediate casting of Felicity Jones and it seems that she may not be playing the central character. This link talks about Ben Mendelsohn being targeted for the lead. A younger version of a Rieekan-type character?
Edit: Or perhaps a Bel-Iblis type character or even a new actor playing Bail Organa..

YES! be great to see Bail on screen
Aw, man, Garreth Edwards? He did Godzilla, and Monsters, which were both very disappointing movies. Every time he makes a movie he's like "what if I show the audience as little as possible of the actual content of the film."
Godzilla was fine, did everything a Godzilla movie should do. Monsters was disappointing. I would've have rather seen more of the details of Monsters and what it was doing to the world rather than the focus on the mundane life story of the two main characters.
I believe that was a budget thing though and I quite liked Monsters to be honest...
Edited by DanteRotterdamMonsters, and Godzilla, did their job well I think (they entertained). Either way, this is exciting news! I'm looking very much forward to this now ![]()
I agree, and it was a fantastic teaser. The story link MM posted was interesting, apparently this John Knoll who is a visual fx vet, had this story idea for stealing the DS plans for decades. I think it's a good sign if someone who is that passionate about the story and who is intimately linked to the visual aspect of the movie are one and the same.

Ssshhh! Don't tell Professor Walsh in advance! He'll go in sight unseen, cos "Star Wars" and half way through go "Star Wars is all about the Jedi! Where are MY JEDI!"
And then complain about it on the Jedi Council forums ![]()
