How many Planets do you visit in a usual Session?

By RodianClone, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

How many planets, moons, space stations or other major locations do you visit in a usual session? The fewest is likely to be one, but what is the most?

We have only had three sessions so far and in the first the were on ship in hyperspace and Tatooine, the second just Tatooine and the third, Tatooine and hyperspace again, on way to Nar Shaddaa.

How do you keep track of locations and possible travel locations if you run a more open, sandboxy kind of game? Simple notes and improv aids(list of names and adversaries...), do you make up planets on the fly,

do you describe the planets and locations you know in very broad strokes, let your players contribute and tell how the known or improvised planet looks ordo you have an insanely impressive memory of half the Galaxy or more?

Each planet/station/etc. usually last us a few sessions or at least one full one...

I've found Obsidian portal to be a huge help there - you can visit all the planets you want, and the website serves as a way to organize all your collected notes.

The most our group had gone to in one session. I would say 2 or 3. It really depends on the session. And I just keep notes on the different places we have been either on paper or through the notes section on Roll20.

Depends on the session, but usually, 1 or 2, we have short sessions, but the most I think was 4 or 5

That really depends on the story. Sometimes we never get off our home base world, sometimes we're galaxy hopping across a dozen worlds, chasing down a badguy or MacGuffin.

A healthy mix of Lots and lots of source material close at hand. sector guides from WEG, galaxy maps printed in the core book, and a general ability to come up with planets on the fly.

The only times we've had occasion to visit more than one planet in a single session was when we started out on one planet and pretty quickly travelled to another. Our sessions are usually 2.5 hours of actual playtime so we tend to focus on one location, or at least one travel period during a session.

I use Obsidian Portal to keep lots of notes about planets. I don't run a real sandbox game, though.

I also use Obsidian Portal to keep track of my notes secretly as well as wiki pages for all the NPCs, PCs, locations, organizations, and ships, species, and beasts they encounter. Well okay also objects and weapons. I might be a little obsessed. ^___^ You can see what I do via the link in my signature.

Episode I - Tatooine

Episode II and III - Bespin

Episode IV - Cruise ship in space

Episode V - Jiroch

Episode VI - Corellia

Episode VII and VIII - Selonia (Projected)

I'm probably going to skip out on Drall. Based on how the players handle 7 and 8, 9 will probably be leaving the light of Corel behind.

Four times less than usual. This recently-salvaged ship derelict-in-space for 100 years with it's type 4 hyperdrive is e x c r u t i a t i n g l y ss ll oo ww.

We tend to move on quickly excrutiatingly slowly right after we piss off someone who can swat us like a fly.

We usually stay near one planet, or right now we're spending 5 game-weeks to go halfway across the galaxy stopping for repairs along the way, between game sessions. We've annoyed enough powerful groups that it's best to keep moving...

The players rarely leave planet Earth.

The characters rarely see more than one in-game planet per session.
