In the crawl for ANH, a group of rebels striking from a hidden base winning a battle vs the empire is mentioned. This movie could be covering that event.

But yeah we may see familiar characters. Bail Organa? Pilots, maybe younger Ackbar?
I'm just glad that on top of an awesome looking new era, we're getting new stuff for the classic era too!

My favorite part: No Jedi. Thank goodness, we could use a movie or two dealing with characters that don't have the luxury of super powers and magic swords.

Won't focus on them as much though, will probably just show them being menacing/commanding/killing Rebels. In the other movies the Jedi stuff is the #1 focus.
I hope they don't retcon every piece of EU detail covering Bothans.
Like turning them into a foot-tall fish race that floats around in hover-spheres... or just making them a human faction (B.O.T.H.A.N.). I like them as cat ppl.

That was Death Star 2. Death Star 1 plans were stolen at/around the Battle of Toprawa ... at least in the old canon. In the new, who knows?

I think Kyle and Jan were the ones who actually stole the plans but I could be wrong. Not going to lie if Kyle and Jan had a part or even just a cameo I'd be insanely happy.
