Im waiting until I have a few more ships to do the order. All the fighters will arrive in a few days and Ill take pictures of them.
Custom TIE Avenger and Assault Gunboat
The advanced is a bit lackluster with Escort only.....maybe give it an additional die with Anti-Squadrons then? A black die to represent the missiles
Thats why she has 4 blue dice instead of 3 like the normal advanced squadron
The Tie Advanced has 2 lasers like a Tie, the Tie Avenger has 4 like a Tie Interceptor. Believe me....I've been playing Tie Fighter all week. The Tie Avenger needs a bump.
I will debate it further in the main forum thread under Imperial Assault Gunboat, we will leave this forum for stats and models. See ya there.
Ordered an Immobilizer, Imperial Gozanti, and some E/K wings. Will take pics as soon as I can get paint on them.
Will is breaking down. Must order more. Anyone have suggestions on priming these guys?
I keep hesitating on pulling the trigger for an order. Kind of wish I could get more than four squadrons worth in one of Mel's packs but I figure it can't be helped. Geh.
For whatever my opinion's worth here, I felt the TIE Avenger was the definitive space interceptor of the Imperial Navy. The TIE Defender does everything better, and the Assault Gunboat is superior in assault roles (to the TIE/Sa), but if you wanted ironclad starfighter protection against other starfighters, the Avenger was your pick. This was why it was so ubiquitous in the latter half of the TIE Fighter campaign, because every admiral and every important posting wanted to run Avengers for starfighter defense. Unfortunately one of those important persons was Zaarin...
So Escort feels good on these guys, just like the Advanced. So does counter. But I think Swarm would be overkill, and they should be as costly (if not more) than the TIE Advanced. The named ace is obviously going to be Stele, anyone have ideas on what he should do?
Maybe allow Stele to add swarm?
If anything I think stele should use something similar to his X-Wing ability, which tied nicely actually with what you could do in the sim: Blow off parts of ships (and therefore control crits). Thing is, unless Stele gets bomber, you can't actually resolve crits like that.
Well you could always Dutch Vander him. Allow him to activate an enemy slider. That said, I know everyone wants counter on this, but when you combine that with escort, it forces people to target a squad that uses counter. It would be like having a bunch of mini Fel's running around. Just seems a bit on the cheese side.
On another note, I would like to open up the idea of making home grown abilities for squadrons and ships. This would make more sense especially since wave 2 has already shown additional rules. Anyway, I suggest not being stuck with what is offered.
I'm kinda new to the whole shapeways thing. First, how are you allowed to sell these without getting sued? Second, do you offer the 3d file for people who have their own printers?

No, but I have been doing this for about two years, FFG clearly knows about me, I post in the official forums, I even know of people that have shown my miniatures to FFG staff and said they were cool (back when the HWK wasnt released).
I never have anything uploaded they currently sell. If they do a ship I have in my store I simply take it down.
So I think they are ok with me, never recieved a C&D nor any kind of contact. Im guess Im too small or to amateurish to be a problem or I just help them make the interest for the game increase.
There are thousands of custom sellers of Star Wars stuff around, from bowties, t-shirts, wooden ships to even art objects. You only have to look around, there are plenty that havent got the intellectual property. Lucasfilm has always been very open with their license, I thought that might change when Disney bought the company but it didnt happen.
Essentially, since day 1 Ive known that this thing that started as a hobbie (and pretty much still is) would only last as much as FFG/Lucasfilm/Disney (or even Shapeways) wanted.
Assault gunboats are one of my favourite EU things so I jumped at the chance and got the dozen for Armada and 1 for X-wing in FUD. Now I need to work out what priming/washing I need to do before I can undercoat and paint them. Does anyone have any tips?

I agree with Mel, I know a lot of garage kit makers that have made SW model kits for years. Only the ones that started mass producing stuff without a license got in trouble.
DarkHorse,
when you get them, just run a stiff paintbrush over the surface of them with care to remove any excess print powder, then prime with your usual flat black spray. Go to town with color. So far I have not had to wash any of my prints before painting.
I don't have Photoshop anymore so I have been using the windows snipping tool and Open Office Draw. Limited in some functions so I have to remake parts of the original card to make up for the limits. Over all it has been fun to do though.
Be sure to post the bulk cruiser pics.

Your cards look great. I had found the templates on the BoardGameGeek page, and though they were perfect, they require photoshop. And I dont have it.
I tried uploading the picture. It says its too big. I have no idea how to fix that.If you can tell me how, Ill post it.
Edited by ThalomenUpload to photobucket, then post the direct IMG link here.
I don't have a photo bucket account. Don't even know how to use that.
Posted the updated Immobilizer 418 above. Point cost is an estimate.
Added the first 418 title card, to earlier post above. Forgive the size, but it is a screen capture
Edited by Wes JansonHere are my Bulk Cruisers. This is the best I could do to upload them. I got photobucket and tried to upload, but when I put the URL in the x, it would respond. I tried on two different computers.
Anyway, there are some freighters and three CR-90s. I want to put the small freighters on fighter stands and the CR-90 on a fighter peg that fits onto the small ship stand.
Credit to Utar who made the models.
Edited by ThalomenIm also working on a ship card for it.
Since in the old cannon it was a cargo ship that was converted for war, I tried to make the card reflect it a little. Like real world cargo ships (I am basing this ship on WWI and II armed merchant cruisers), there would be a lot of internal area and compartmentalization. Because of that there would be high hull value, but relatively weak shields. The guns will be 1 red, 2 blue, once I figure out how to change the color in photoshop. I wanted the ship to be able to fight, but be strongest at medium range. I had in mind the WWI battle between the Carmania and the Cap Trafalgar in Sept 1914. Two ships like this could hang in for a heck of a fight, but I didn't want it to be too strong against a purpose built warship like the VSD. Something like the real world example of the Rawalpindi and Gneisenau in 1939, but not quite so one sided. I also gave it stronger aft weapons. In its freighter role it would be more defensive than offensive.
Im also working on a "Cargo Carrier" upgrade card. Since the Star Wars universe feather combo ships (medical frigate... silly as that one was, but still) I figure the Rebellion would still use the cargo space on it. Soooo... for 10 points it gets the cargo upgrade. If the ship survives the battle it's value (60pts) is added to the Rebel score. If it is destroyed, double its value is added to the Imperial score. It's a risky, but valuable upgrade. Thoughts?
