Next Expansions..

By goncardoso, in Star Wars: The Card Game

So will this game only be focused on the original trilogy of Star Wars ? OR we'll get more in the next expansions like new movie , games , etc..?

I mean there are so much cool characters and worlds and etc in the expanded world...

There is already a lot of EU content in the game but it all takes place during the time of the galactic civil war.

As Toqtamish mentions, currently the characters and settings still borrow heavily from the "Legends" EU (I've seen characters that fit in the Galactic Civil War setting that were taken from the Novels, the games, the Dark Horse comics, the FFG Star Wars RPGs, the original 70s/80s novels, the Clone Wars cartoon series, even a nod to the Newspaper comics ... actually most of the expanded Universe except the original Marvel run of Star Wars )

My guess is that the first "new EU" characters we'll see appearing will be from the Rebels cartoon series. Especially now that we know that certain characters from the prequels/ Clone Wars cartoon series survived at least until a few years before the Battle of Yavin IV.

I'm not sure they'll incorporate the next trilogy soon ... probably not until all three new movies are finished and there is a clear interlinking narrative to build a new phase of gameplay around.

yeah i know but it would be cool to have chracters from prequels like darth maul , quin gon jin or from the expanded EU like first Siths , etc..

You're not the first one to say so ... and you're not wrong either.

Problem is that some factions wouldn't fit in that set-up.

Sure ... Jedi/Sith that's clear-cut ... and Scum and Villany and Smugglers and Spier are of all ages.

But Navy/Rebel Alliance would be more difficult to replace in a prequel setting. Sure, you can make two new affilations Republic/Seperatists ... but one could say that the LS/DS split for those factions isn't as clea-cut. The Republic was led by the Dark Lord of the Sith after all (oops ... spoiler :D )

But I wouldn't be surprised if FFG decides to expand the possibilities in the future with new factions ... after all, that's what they've done with X-Wing as well

Do not expect to see prequels ever. FFG has said as much.

A problem with incorporating pre-Galactic Civil War content is that two of the affiliations, Rebel Alliance and Imperial Navy, have no representation before the GCW.

Seeing that the Republic Army would eventually become the Imperial Navy, you could make a case that you could add Republic cards under the Imperial Navy banner, but it would feel wrong to have the prequel films' "good guys" under a Dark Side affiliation. And the Republic Army's primary antagonist, the Confederation of Independent Systems, is definitely not Rebel Alliance material. You could swap them, and again, you can sort of make the case for Republic Army being Rebel Alliance, but the Confederation of Independent Systems fits better as part of the Scum and Villainy affiliation than Imperial Navy.

Compounded with that is the fact that a sizable portion of the Star Wars fanbase is anti-Special Edition and anti-prequel. While Core Set and X-Wing Han's ability to shoot first might simply be intended as a humorous reference to the fandom meme, it could also mean that the development team is sympathetic to that viewpoint.

they could create new ones like they did with Game of Thrones ( ofc the houses exist , but there are lots of them )
besides , there always existed the republic army and smugglers and etc... not talking about the prequels , but the books or the videogames had much potencial.

Do not expect to see prequels ever. FFG has said as much.

as soon as I see jar jar, i'm burning the cards, i'll wipe them out...all of them.

Decipher got years upon years of content from the original movies, then some more when Lucasarts redid them back in the 90's adding the extra footage (like the girly scream from Luke when he's falling down the 'hole' in cloud city). there is no reason FFG couldn't get the same amount, if not more if they use official lore that happens during this particular period in the universe.

Having just rewatched the original trilogy, i saw a few things they could do as events.

Deciphers hang up was they were using screen caps from the movies as 'art', that was pretty limiting.

I had a friend that asked if they planned on adding new factions..

I recommend not inspecting "Cloud City Casino" too closely then...

I imagine that Jar Jar is so consumed by his past deeds that he spends his time drinking his sorrows away in a Cloud City casino
