Pulling a model apart.

By CliffordHolm, in X-Wing

Could someone please direct me to a link or spot that shows the best way to take apart the CR-90 and Firespray?

I'm wanting to put LEDs in the engines but am afraid to start.

My plan is to experiment with the CR-90 first as it has, I hope it has, the biggest internal space then my second project will be the Firespray.

Thank you,

Cliff

Yes, you can. I took mine apart when I stripped it to repaint it again.

There are connectors inside holding the main body to the engine plate, with the lower hull skirting in the middle. If you pry the engine plate off, the rest will be pretty easy.

Yup, just pry them very gently, be on the look out for stress lines and cracks.

They seem to be glued with a superglue type glue that cracks quite easily. If they had been sealed with a liquid poly type glue they would be really hard (near impossible) to seperate.

I found my CR90s engine elements came off just my gently wiggling them.

For the main body try and get a small crack on the join (or make one where it can be concealed and put a strong and blunt thin knife in the crack and slowly slide it along to gradually pop it open

The key is just being really slow with it.

When my mates dog chewed up my first CR90 a lot of elements simply popped off under pressure like the two discs on either side of the bridge etc

Firespray. Not mine but it's what you are looking for. Enjoy

Sweet Now to find money/time and right sized LED's for the Fire spray.

For the life of me I can't get the discs on either side of the bridge off. Someone went over the allotted quota for glue on this one...
