...FFG won't announce ships without any cards again?
Remember, there were ships that were aesthetically disliked in Wave 4, 5 and 6. Wave 4 was slated just for being EU by the "purists" who think FFG should just keep releasing X-wing and A-wing repaints over and over each wave. The Defender and Phantom (particularly the Defender) have had their time being mocked for their appearance, the Decimator's been called a "hideous dull grey brick", the StarViper and Scyk (particularly the Viper) have been bashed relentlessly for their designs...
...but they were all announced with cards, which means people saw what they're meant to do mechanically in the game rather than only having their looks to go on. And as a result, it was their ingame roles under discussion rather than nitpicking their aesthetics. The ships would justify themselves on their mechanics. This time we have no mechanics.
Wave 7 dropped at the end of a Friday and the announcement article didn't go up, with luck it'll go up on Monday. But these two days have been an endless tsunami of hysteria because we only have names and models to go on. When that's all people can see of the X-Wing wave that's been held back for so long, those that don't like the appearances (as will be the case with any ship that's not a movie ship) only have that to go on. I fully expect things to calm down after Monday (if they release the article on Monday which I think they probably will given how PRly unwise it'd be to not) but for some people the damage is done: they've made up their minds.
Maybe After This...
If you think this forum is in hysteria, you should really check out Bell of Lost Souls or Dakka Dakka's Warhammer forums right now. Total meltdown.
This is little more than a storm in a teacup by comparison.
Edited by FTS GeckoOf course, but it's worse than Wave 4, 5 and 6 were for it.
You know, when I first saw the K-wing and Interdictor art in the speculation threads, I thought 'Oh god please don't let them release those things'.
But those models look much better than the art, I've gotta say. I can probably talk myself into getting the K-wing, especially because the magical ordnance fix will make my Y-wings more than just ion platforms.
Of course, but it's worse than Wave 4, 5 and 6 were for it.
Maybe that's because it's worse than wave 4, 5 and 6.
Seriously, Wave 4 had a lot going for it (although the was dominated by the controversy regarding the Phantom Menace). People were looking forward to the Z-95 especially.
Wave 5 was a small scale release, there was a bit of a backlash over the addition of two new turrets but a lot of people were looking forward to the YT-2400 and a similarly large number of players were looking forward to getting their hands on an Imperial turret.
Wave 6's fiercest critics were those who didn't want a new faction full stop; the vast majority of players welcomed it though - Most Wanted offers incredible value and some much-needed utility for the Y-Wings, and the rest of the release really opened up some design space. It went down pretty well overall.
This wave though... I think it's really caught a lot of people off guard (me included). The Hound's Tooth was probably the most predictable new addition (given it had already been announced for Armada). The K-Wing, ugly as it is, was one of the few Rebel ships left in a dwindling list. The Punisher has come completely out of left field it seems, and the Kihraxz seems to have recieved mixed opinions even amongst those players who are aware of it's origins and support Scum. What we've seen so far really is divisive - a full blown preview article with better pictures and indications of pilots and upgrades might help lighten the mood a bit, but so far, this is the Wave Of The Uggos.
Edited by FTS GeckoYou're defending those waves based on their mechanics. Something we didn't get this time around but did those times.

However, I also defended with previous waves with the emotional attachment players had with various ships. The TIE Defender and Z95 were eagerly anticipated by players who had enjoyed the X-Wing PC games. The Outrider, Star Viper and it's pilots were popular with and familir to Shadows of the Empire players. Even the Decimator was nostalgic for former Galaxies players.
There's much less of that immediate recognition and emotional investment this time around, and where before the players and EU fans who recognised the ships were saying "Cool!", this time they're saying "Why?"
Edited by FTS GeckoFTS Gecko does make a good point, however, that there was at least 1 ship in each of those waves that were fan favourites. I don't think that can be said for any of the ships in this upcoming wave. Of course, people are already warming up to the models at least.
I actually approve of the way Wave 7 was announced. I am one of the few that does not want every last effing thing spoiled before I can get my hands on the actual expansions.
If I had my way, they wouldn't say another specific thing about this wave until the ships were available for purchase. Then, I could open my new toys like at Xmas, with awe and excitement. Especially since they probably won't be available for purchase until September.
The way things usually go, everything is spoiled, everything is debated and endlessly analyzed, until you get to the point where you almost don't even want to open the **** things.

I'm sure the large scum ship has fans but thats about it.
You know, i do not consult other forums than this one when it cones to X-Wing, and for a reason.
I know the Nerdrage going on there can be quite stupid... Excuse me but that's how i see it!
For my part i am perfectly content. The 4 ships look great, and as long as we get sone new mechanics and gimmicks that are sound and make for fun and balanced games, they can rage all day long about designs and if it's canon or not and whatnot.
I think that the moment they went with EU ships they were absolutely right. What should FFG have done? Just stop releasing or make one Aces pack after the other? Waited 2 years to see if they get the rights for the new movies ( and then Mickey Mouse says no innthe end XD)? Come on seriously...

Also there are hardly any real fan-favorites left to be brought out if you ask me!
You mean apart from the Xg-1? ![]()
I see what you mean though, we're certainly delving deep into the EU no matter what FFG select. I just wish there was one 'must have' ship in this wave and I suspect I'm not alone.

Lots of people like and are excited about the Hound's Tooth.

That's called Blind Buy.
Besides, the initial preview article doesn't tell you everything, it gives you a mechanical blurb on the ships. Very different to full spoilers.

As far as I am concered, they have not "announced" Wave 7 in the strict sense of the word ... FFG presented their plans for Wave 7 on Friday but unless they put a "front-page-press-release"-article out there Wave 7 is not announced yet
As for the cards, the Armada Wave 2 announcement came and went without FFG revealing any cards - what some of upcoming cards would do was featured in the announcement but no "this is how its going to be printed"-cards. Chalk it up to the new website-design/article-layout but still I would not get my hopes that we will be getting a good look at the cards this time.

This is what I'm talking about.
As for Armada, you can't really go wrong with an ISD.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I do not see this as a "Blind Buy" at all. Just because you don't know every last detail to the nth degree doesn't make it a Blind Buy.
I am quite certain that you have purchased many things in your life where you didn't know every last detail about the item you were purchasing. That doesn't make it a blind buy, nor does it invalidate the reason you were buying the item to begin with.

True, Hound's Tooth been a ship name we saw poppin in pretty much every ''Guess what the next wave will be'' threads.... followed closely by a discussion about the ship being too big to be included and yada yada.
For my part, I've been waiting for the Kirhaxz since they annouced wave 6 and saw the Scyk, meaning a desire to include ships from SWG. I'm a little disappointed that they went with this particular chassis for the ship, but I'm sure it will grow on me, and leave the more iconic design (hammernose) for the Vaksai, improved version of the Kirhaxz. Or, maybe they thought it was too close to the E-Wing design.
Edited by Red CastleWhen I see people talking about waiting to see the new cards before they make a decision on new ships it really bothers me. The last time I checked this was a miniatures game not a card game, if the cards are more important than the appearance of the ship then we might as well all be playing magic. Up until wave five I had bought multiples of all ships except the Falcon and the Corvette, because there's only one Falcon and extra GR-75's took up enough space without multiple Corvettes. I only bought one of each of wave five because I was not really interested in anything but the cards and wasn't really interested in two more large base turrets even though they appear to fit in the Star Wars universe, so far neither have made the table for me. I will probably get around to playing these eventually, but who knows. When wave six was announced I was really pumped about the new faction and bought multiples of all ships except the Starviper, that ship hasn't ever appealed to me and since the day shadows of the empire came out I never thought it looked at home in the Star Wars universe. Now with the new wave spoiled I have two ships I like, Hounds Tooth will get one copy and the Kirhaxz will probably be multiple purchases. As far as the K-wing and the new Tie, I'll get one of each and hope I like the new ordnance fixes. I'm really starting to think that I should get a new case for the ships I bought for cards and have no intention of playing so I can leave them in the closet and stop dragging them around with me. I really like this game but have no intention of continuing to purchase after wave eight if I might as well be playing a card game. When you set down to play and it looks like the guy across from you is playing with Star Trek and g.i. Joe ships then it's time to decide if your still playing the same game you started out with, after all it is a miniatures game set in the Star Wars universe and if the aesthetics of the game are less important than the cards then you might as well be playing a card game.
meine gott!

I don't want to have to purchase a ship to find out which upgrade cards are in it, especially as in X-Wing one tends to plan purchases.
Everyone is making a big deal about nothing. Example when fans become rabid fans and ruins the fun. Don't like it, don't buy it. Move along, these are not the miniatures you are looking for.
