We now have a fourth faction - the New Republic!

Back to topic...

I also agree it seems odd FFG doesn't want to include Clone Wars ships to concentrate on the Galactic Civil War (makes sense to me), but then releases ships that were only in use in the EU's New Republic era.

When you have a bunch of ships from X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and X-Wing Alliance (which made their way into other Star Wars games, novels, and comicbooks) still sitting on the shelf? And you're pulling from eras other than the Galactic Civil War? What are the fans to think?

It's really odd.

BTW, even if the old EU is dead, FFG is still obviously using that wealth of material for the X-Wing game. So I think we, as fans, should expect some level of consistency.

*shrugs*

What are fans to think?

They should think the EU is dead. It's fire has gone out of the universe. It is legends

The e-wing and k-wing have been removed from the new republic era, which as we knew it has not happened, and put them in the rebellion (or earlier era). They could have been scrapped entirely, but the history has changed.

The same thing for the a- and b-wings. A-wings, maybe the r-22 spearhead, are being used before endor (just like in Droids!). The b-wing, in the new canon, has been flown by pirates before Endor, as well as by Hera before Endor. It seems that things that were done in the EU by characters on screen (Ackbar designing the B-wings) has been thrown out. Some of these things may be done by new characters. This is a change I applaud, as the galaxy is a big place, and everything important news not be done by a character just because they appeared on screen. Maybe Willrow Hood really was carrying an ice cream maker.

Get over the death of the EU, and embrace the new lore. If something shows up from the past, rather than complaining, be thankful it wasn't just tossed instead.

I was at an art museum yesterday that pretty much gave the French version of the history of that war. Like: talking about German atrocities in Belgium, the French being surprised by and unprepared for the war, etc.

I was just a bit annoyed at the amount of historical amnesia on display.

OP by your logic the United States of America did not fight a War of Independence against England. A rabble mob which in turn formed a Confederacy did. Yet the USA considers those rebels and early confederates that form the Republic it is today American Citizens. Heck they all used the same National Symbols for the most part.

Don't get hung up on names till we see the whole explanation either.

Thats how we see it in the UK

The revolutionary war was one group of english people fighting another group of english people

Once one group had one then you could legally and internationally be Americans so....

its more like a civil war really :)

(only joking before someone gets really defensive, the reality is that nobody in the UK really cares, most people have no idea it even happened :) )

As an American, I am very offended that you would say such a thing! Oh wait, never mind, I don't care at all. And most of my fellow Americans are morons and probably don't even know who we declared our independence from anyway.

It was the French, right? That's why the X,Y,Z affair was such a big deal?

Exactly. And then George Washington fought alongside Napoleon in the Vietnam conflict.

That was to save the limeys asses against the Roman Nazis right?

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!? NO!"

My teacher for American History in high school was a Brit ex-pat. He was a fantastic teacher, and we all loved him, but there were no end of jokes.

"When are we going to do a unit on the Revolution?"

"Wot? You mean the Rebellion? I'm sure we'll get round to that little snit eventually."

Somewhat on-topic:

The B-Wing in Rebels was the first time I felt the little internal sadness at some of my personal EU being squished. I was a huge fan of the West End RPG back in the day, so I'll be disappointed to let go of associating the B-Wing with Ackbar, the Verpine, and that mission with that other band of rag-tag Rebels. I'd rather they kept that alive for me, but if that's what it takes to make an awesome Rebels show for me and my kids to watch, I can deal with it.

The only think I find annoying about the A-Wing and B-Wing being in Rebels is that it takes away the sense of progression from them being first seen in Jedi.

In ANH, it is easy to imagine that the Rebellion only has those 3 squadrons of fighters, and that by taking out Yavin 4, the Empire would leave the Rebellion without a significant fighting force.

In Empire Strikes Back, the Rebels have a bigger force, but again, it's still tiny. No match for the strike force the Empire has sent to Hoth.

By the time of Jedi, the Rebellion seems to have grown both in size and in technological base. A-Wings and B-Wings are a part of that growth, along with having capital ships and dedicated Admirals. The Rebel fleet is still dwarfed by the Imperial forces, but we see the growth.

Now: I'm excited to see these ships, and I'm willing to believe that- in Rebels- they're prototypes, testbeds, or still too expensive to be mass produced. 7 years is fast development time for a modern fighter.

But if the Rebellion really does have a significant fleet with a bunch of fighter squadrons elsewhere in the Galaxy, then even a successful battle of Yavin starts to look like an Imperial Pearl Harbor: a tactical victory that makes strategic defeat incredibly likely by committing an atrocity that leaves the main enemy forces intact.

On topic: apparently there isnt a New Republic anymore? I mean all we know from the new movie is The First Order and The Resistance. No new republic. Of course it could be there, but we just dont know much yet.

Of topic: Ive always wondered how you Brits studied the american revolution. Here in the USA its all we were the good guys, you were the bad guys. but how do you learn about it there? what is it called? is it still the american revolution, or is it some sort of civil war thing...

The K-Wing was never a Rebel fighter and wasn't even built until after the establishment of the New Republic, so shouldn't the markings on the fighter and cards that come in the expansion have the New Republic symbol? After all, it wasn't even dreamed up as a concept during the Rebellion era.

Sorry bud.....but the EU is dead. It is basically a dream that us fanboys had. According to the EU A-Wings and B-Wing were first used at the "Battle of Endor" and then were put into permanent service because of thier performance in that battle. Well the new "Rebels" trailer show them being used at least 4 years before "A New Hope". So the K-Wing if only mentioned in a new novel, comic, TV Show, or any other media to have been used by the Rebels then there we go.

I really wish people would stop trying to use EU almost as gospel....because it is not part of canon anymore. It hurts me to say that, but dear lord move along people....move along.

That said, the development cycle for new equipment, even in times of conflict, can be long. If the A-wings are a trial, and the B-wing is a prototype too, then the four years can be explained as further refinement and ironing out the kinks in those designs.
