How many are used in a typical campaign and can you choose them?

If they cost in-game money, do they all cost the same?

There are three Lts that are available to every Avatar. These are the Farrow siblings. Then each Avatar has one (two in the case of the Beastman Lord) Avatar specific Lts.

You play the Great Wyrm Avatar. IIRC Dar Hilzernod is only available at Gold level of the Campaign, so he only comes out when things are really serious.
