Do berserker abilities stack?

By Helixagon, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Say, using Execute or Weapon Mastery on something like Whirlwind or Counterattack. Been looking for an official answer but can't find one. This would give a massive boost to an already-great class IMO but it seems like it'd be too good to be true.

Both can be used with either of those as long as the triggers for these skill are met.

Seems that would make sense, I think I started to wonder because of the differentiation between 'attack' and 'attack action' that seems important in some cases (like, apparently using Grisban's Feat wouldn't let you perform a whirlwind even if you spent the fatigue). Thanks for the response.

The following Berserker skills are mutually exclusive and can't be combined:

- Rage

- Counter Attack

- Charge

- Whirlwind

- Death Rage

Weapon Mastery and Execute stack with each other and can be used in conjunction with any of the above skills. It all comes down to the wording on the cards.

As an aside, I feel that Berserker is one of the weakest warrior classes in the game, especially against a skilled Overlord.

The monsters will not attack the Berserker when he could Counter Attack, and they will not position themselves where they can get easily struck by a Whirlwind. Death Rage is also manageable by not damaging the Berserker and instead dealing with him using traps or draining his stamina.

The berserker in my group voiced this complaint feeling like they are dumping xp into abilities they never get to use.

Charge is a good ability, but it is also fatigue-heavy, making it inferior to something like the Knight Oath of Honor skill that does not even cost XP to get.

In a co-op adventure the Berserker fares better, though.

It does make him excellent for carrying objectives, though, or being the frontliner where monsters have a choice of targeting him or simply not getting an attack this turn. Whirlwind for a single stamina (and no exhaust!) is just incredibly cheap, and has the advantage of not damaging friendlies like a blast, putting it way up there in my opinion. It's true that a smart overlord will avoid bunching his monsters together but that applies to any AOE. When it costs a single stamina, even hitting two monsters instead of one is very cost effective.

Granted, I only have the base game so I can't compare to some of the later classes. But my berserker is currently carrying the campaign until my necromancer gets Army of Death.

I will say that Rage has been my least-used starting skill of all the heroes. It doesn't help that it's entirely supplanted by Execute.

It's pretty funny, but the berserker is a better class for being durable because of how threatening he is if he's damaged, and the knight is far better for doing damage because of advance and its mobility.
