Thougts on Multiplayer Titles

By chrassos, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

hi folks,

before i laydown my thoughts (thoughts of an absolutly beginner^^) some Q´s about Titles:

1. Timing:

were does selecting Titles exactly begin? before or after the second Player Action Window in the Plotphase?

2. the +3 bonus of Crown R. / Lord C / Master of W. :

- does the bonus really occur on each Challange my characters are participating in the Challange Phase, or does it count for only "one" Challange of my chars?

- could the bonus be cancelled? if Yes, when? (i think its not cancelable)

3. How strong are the Title effects within a game/round/phase???

are they insignificant or strong?

key to win the Game or just flavourful and funny?

now here are my thoughts:

now what do you say...

which Title is the best partido_risa.gif (D´OoooooooohhhhhhhhhhhH)

no forget about it...

lets say it so ....

which Title is not suited for a particular house (Like Valar is not suited for Stark) enfadado.gif

no please dont beat me up or kick me out of this forum please ...

last try ... sonrojado.gif

on a 6-Player Meleegame how happy would be a Lannister player if he (must) choose the "Hand of the King"???

i ask this because i read here that Lannys dont need any influence!!!

hmmm

so what if two players twinkle with their eyes and constantly let the Lanny choose at last, so that he often must choose "the hand"

would that be enfadado.gif" $%&§"%/& '*/($$§)==?$$%&$" llorando.gif for the lanny or will he even not notice that

would a Lanny ever pick "The Hand" freely?

what you think?

It happens right after the person who won intiative picked the first player.

the +3 bonus happens anytime you have a character participating in that challenge type. Like all titles it is not cancelable

varies from game to game and playstyle to playstyle. The +1 draw and +2 gold are two of the most popular ones to pick, but don't have to be picked to win games.

well it depends on the game situation more then the house. Generally master of wispers is not well suited for Greyjoy, however it might be nice to have the person who supports the master of wispers support you or to be able to claim an opposed power provided by the title from more then one person (option wise, not claim wise)

well, the lanni guy is probably not going to complain about going last every turn. Also, hand of the king provides more then just +2 influence as it is supported, supports, and opposes someone else. Plus having an influence lying around never hurts (lanni doesn't need influence, but there are influence effects and seasick...)

Before the window. After the First Player is decided, they choose their title, followed by the remaining players. Then, once everything has been resolved (title choice and plot effects), players may take actions. No actions occur between choosing the first player and titles.

Any challenge of the appropriate type. Titles and their respective bonuses cannot be cancelled.

Generally they considerably change the game. The power bonus/benefits often give a significant benefit, and the redirecting abilities can be tremendously useful. Key title choice will make or break most multiplayer games. In addition, they can often help shore up weaknesses or add momentum to your deck.

I'd go more with certain titles being better for certain decks. Master of Coin is often popular in the early game, due to the income boost, but in general I find Crown Regent my favorite. Being able to redirect a challenge is a fantastic ability, and can be used offensively and defensively.

I've chosen Hand of the King even in an influence-heavy deck - it never hurts having extra resources. But Master of Coin is often popular, which allows you to gain extra power, and it means you don't have to worry about the Master of Laws (a popular title at all stages of the game).

In short, there are no bad titles, and even ones that don't always fit into your overall strategy can often be used tactically.

The comments about titles being more suited/unsuited for decks rather than Houses is more accurate. Lanni could build a deck that used a fair amount of influence if it really wanted to.

Also, don't forget that the title Supports Master of Whispers and Opposes Master of Coin. And that Master of Laws (draws an extra card) Supports it while Master of Coin (+2 Gold) Opposes it. Particularly in a 6-player game as the game moves beyond the first couple of rounds, I think you'll find that titles are chosen as much (if not more) for who they support and oppose as for their actual effects. Those "can't attack" and "extra power for attacking" relationships start becoming very important. So even though LCG-Lannister does not use a lot of influence in general, conspiring to "stick it to" a Lannister player by forcing the Hand of the King title on him/her because of its "useless" effect may backfire, depending on who chooses the other titles and how the Supports/Opposes relationships end up being leveraged in the Challenge phase.

I have never built a deck specifically for multiplayer, but if (when) I do, I'll probably strongly consider playing with Westeros Bleeds because it is so easy to play with the Hand title. I'd also consider playing a larger number of Ambush characters than in joust if I were playing Targaryen.

In general, you can count on a lot of resets in multiplayer. Immunity is worth more than ever in that format.
