They made the TIE Interdictor/Punisher, but not the Assault Gunboat!?!?!

By Gunner070, in X-Wing

I really don't understand them putting this TIE Bomber variant in. It's not even "real".

FFG fleshed it out and gave it a backstory and TIE/ designation (TIE/IT) in Stay On Target. Like the TIE phantom, it's one of the ships they've adopted.

They keep this up then Disney should pull the license.

They approve everything FFG makes.

It may well be that LFL's the one that doesn't like the lambda fighters (XG-1 and Missile Boat).

I will probably get a few of each for cards/full collection but I would have bought a ton of assault gunboats / missile boats. Looks like another wave I will be getting almost none of. At least I have Armada and IA.

What gives us the Tie Interdictor over the Tie Bomber?

Shields but less agility.

4 times more space for ordnance.

And thats what we really needed.

I own countless ordnance upgrade cards.

Now we get a ship that is able to equip them all.

... I am very disappointed we still don't have the Assault Gunboat ...

Not in wave seven. Probably in wave 700. :P

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the TIE Interdictor and I see the theme they are going with in this wave for the Imps and Rebels (Heavy Bombers), but I am very disappointed we still don't have the Assault Gunboat (Mostly for the X-Wing campaign I'm making, but also for the game proper).

Thoughts?

I see more waves coming... so just smile, support the game, and wait for your most loved ships. They will prolly show up later.

:)

"WHAT (like Vader says it too)... No hug and kiss on the cheek?!"

Yeah, the TIE Punterdictor makes little sense to me as well.

It's design clearly treads on the toes of the TIE Bomber - "why fly a plain old TIE Bomber, when you can fly the TIE SIAMESE BOMBAAAAH!"

I guess I was hoping myself that FFG wouldn't go down the boring old TIE-just-add-one-more-wing-stroke-pod-stroke-gun route, but instead start producing some more interesting and diverse ships for the Empire. There's much more to the Imperial Navy than just the TIE series.

Any of the XG-1, Missile Boat and Skipray Blastboat could all have filled an Imperial ordnance niche, without falling back on tired, lazy old design tropes.

The XG-1 is not a missile boat.

what are the great big ordnance pods for then?

Nothing, because the XG-1 isn't a missile boat. That's the Assault Gunboat.

You're thinking of this.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Alpha-class_Xg-1_Star_Wing

Of course I'm thinking of that - that's why I said XG-1

So why wouldn't the ordnance pods filled with concussion missiles, rockets and torpedoes qualify this as an ordnance platform?

Are we talking at cross purposes perhaps?

Are you perhaps confusing the terms ordnance platform and missile boat - with the proper noun MIssile Boat?

Because if the TIE defender is any indication it'll be a very different beast to its more common cousin.

The XG-1 is comparably armed to a Y-wing, it's for long range raids. The Interdictor is for reducing rebel bases to slag by itself.

Seriously? This seems to be turning into, "FFG did not pick the ship I like, therefore the ship they picked is bad."

They brought the K-Wing that i personally know from an Empire at War Computer game expansion.

But i think i know why they did it. Because the ship fits the Rebeks in design and naming so well...

And that's also the reason why we get the TIE-Punisher. 1. Its a TIE and they kept to that tenaciously. We have only the Shuttle, Firespray and Decimator tat are not TIEs. All the small imp ships are TIEs! So that's why no Gunboat makes its appearance! The other option would have been the Scimitar (aka. Space Wang). That one looks like a TIE (-wang) but is not named TIE. It's also a heavy advanced Bomber though. But i am happy they went for the Punisher rather than that...

The XG-1 is not comparable to the TIE Cereza.

The Missile Boat is.

The k-wing could have had all the ordinance fixes packaged with it the assault gunboat didn't need to double down on ordinance heavy for the set (though it can still carry it and is a good platform for such just less then a tie bomber).

The model is growing on me though I will get one of everything this wave because I am a sucker lol.

We don't have any Rebel Bases in the X-Wing Miniatures game though, so this ship and its role is therefore redundant.

I'm sure the reason for the Tie Punisher is that there is a title card (or some other fix) that is specific to Tie Bombers and their variants...like the Punisher. The Jodo Cast interview said that the Tie Bomber was going to get some love. This makes sense. It's a fix specific to the Tie Bomber. What's the best way to introduce it, but a Tie Bomber variant with a fix for both?

These ships seem absolutely bizarre to me but I anticipate there'll be something fun about them. I just hope we get the gunboat someday. Maybe I'm the one who had the weird childhood, but seems it's like they're pulling the most out-there things. Like am I the only one who thought the T-wing from Tie Fighter would have filled the same role as the Scyk? There were a ton of pirate ships in those games that we just haven't seen at all. I'm not upset or anything, but it's confusing. At least we didn't get the R-41 though. That thing looks like an old junker car.

Apparantly the developers played alot more "Galaxies" then x-wing and tie fighter

So maybe I was wrong, because I wasn't really into MMOs, but wasn't Galaxies supposed to have just been a total disaster that they kept trying to fix and never did? I did a free trial once and it was almost unplayable. There were no people there and nothing I could even remotely fight on my own, so I just got repeatedly eaten by Tatooine desert frog thingies until I just stopped because I needed to heal by finding a dancer and no one was dancing.

Space combat, and customizing your ship with looted and crafted components, was amazeballs.

I saw a very little bit of that and it looked sort of like a wing-commander throwback in terms of endless turning battles controlled by the mouse and heard a lot about just being out-leveled in items so that the actual flying didn't do all that much. More like what you get in those X games and the other space-trader things where it's all about what's on your ship.
