Received as birthday gift

By VadersMama, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

My child received this game as a birthday gift last month, excitedly opened everything, replaced it all into baggies, and put it away until now. The cards that WERE pre-sorted are now separated LS and DS only. I am new to the genre, and reading the directions, it seems initial play required a specific set of cards.

So here we are.

If you have any clue how the four ready-to-play decks should be constructed, please let me know. I am willing to watch the video tutorials and read the directions to get a clue on game play (BTW, so far, no luck in understanding that either), but I am stymied by the seemingly mixed decks.

Mama

the cards used in the learn to play decks are listed on page 10 of the rulebook

Welcome to the boards and to gaming community.

The demo video gives a general overview of play but if your having trouble with the rules look for a Friednly Local Game Store (FLGS). One that has Magic, Warhammer, X-Wing, and other tournaments. They can point you to the local player group or to a team member that would help you both learn the game. Most FLGSs have very friendly local communities that love to help a new player enjoy gaming.

You do not use the objectives Questionable Contacts, Rumors at the Cantina, Tribal Support, The Bespin Exchange, Looking for Droids, Corporate Exploitation, or their associated command cards. Those are for building your own decks later.

While it's not as important in games with just the starter decks, cards are grouped into "objective sets" of one objective and five command cards - I broke them down for you above. For ease of reference, each objective set has a number - A Hero's Journey is objective set 1, for example, and then each card in that objective set specifies which card in the set it is. So Luke Skywalker is card 2 of 6 in objective set 1. The Twi'lek Loyalist that belongs to that objective set specifies it is card 3 of 6 in objective set 1, and so on. If your cards ever get mixed up like this again, you can look for the objective set numbers to sort them into objective sets.

On the main area of this webpage there are some tutorial videos on how to play. The game has a slight learning curve, but the gameplay is fairly easy once you understand the basics.

Best of luck, and I hope you and your child enjoy the game!
