Rebels Season 2 Trailer

By Keoki, in X-Wing

Wouldn't they need to at least slow it down to allow the clones to be used in warfare for a number of years?

That assumes that such a thing is even possible. It also assumes that even if it were possible, if it was feasible. If 8 out 10 clones die due to the process is it worth doing? Also even with order 66 implanted in them, they were still part of the Republic Army and may not be seen as being trustworthy in the Empire.

Trustworthiness? They were insanely loyal!

Now, as for its independent contractors:

Yeah... um.... not so much.

can someone explain all the cad bane fandom? whats going on?

He's my kind of scum, ruthless and inventive. OOOOhhHhohohohohohoh....

Naw, but seriously, he's probably the best written character they have in that series. (yes, they did some pretty good fleshing out of Ventress, and she's great and all, but man, Cad Bane...)

can someone explain all the cad bane fandom? whats going on?

He's a bounty hunter, heavily inspired by Lee Van Cleef's character from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: a meticulous, swaggering, and even at times courteous chap of the most ruthless kind. Unlike OT Fett and PT Maul (which is a terrible comparison), Bane actually shows a great deal of personality and character, and frequently backs up his "badass" reputation with legitimate actions, shown capable of both outwitting Jedi and holding his own regularly against them and Clone Troopers throughout the series. And it's not simply that he's another plug in badass, he's actually shown as a character with a touch of depth. Sure, his motivations are pretty shallow (money!), but not every detail of every character needs to be some deeply woven, complex tapestry.

Then again, maybe I'm just partial to Westerns and have a soft spot for ruthless outlaw cowboys.

Well, either the animators are fans of Babylon 5 or a K-Turn is WAY different than we thought....

I was going to post a response to this but then I figured, nah, it's just zathras. No one listens to poor zathras. ;)
This is why Zathras can never have anything nice. Zathras have sad life....probably have sad death....but at least there is symmetry.

Not the one. not the one.

BTW, my daughter is named Delenn. Nice to see other B5 fans.

nicely explained!

Uhm... are those new TIEs at 1:47?!?!

They sound like TIEs, but they've got square wings and their radiators are in the "Middle" of the wing... I can't see the classic TIE canopy either...

I know it sounds lame and lazy, but it's the truest explanation. Lucas and his creative team made up the whole story as they were shooting the movies.

One of the big lies from Lucas is that he had a grand scheme in his head the whole time for the whole series. He has said that countless times, and countless times he has lied.

^ So very much this.

Even going from IV to V you can see this... in IV the emperor was not a spooky force-using Sith, and Vader was not his right hand man... Vader was answering to Tarkin! None of the dynamics of the Empire make sense in IV in light of V let alone what happened in I - III

Hard to say, as they REALLY blurred them up - freezing a still doesn't tell you anything about them.

Could just be TIE Bombers, or regular TIE Fighters with strong directional lighting and a LOT of 'motion blur'

I think they're bombers at a weird angle. Maybe using an animation trick of some kind since it's a quick shot.

Two Pods = Tie Bombers.

Or possibly TIE Boarders. Those were a thing.

I need this manuever in the game somehow.

They used to do that in BSG all the time. In the BSG MMO it's called a 'slide,' where you use your maneuvering thrusters to point your nose (and guns) away from your direction of travel. Since there's no drag in space, your momentum will keep you going in the same direction at more-or-less constant velocity. BSG was one of the only shows that used fairly realistic physics in their starfighter combat scenes (in my opinion).

Translating that to X-Wing is difficult because there's no accounting for momentum. Personally, I'd call the existing K-Turn mechanics "good enough" and leave it at that.

He spins around 180* and then accelerates opposite the direction he was moving until he is moving in the opposite direction. That's a k-turn followed by one or more straights.

Slide could be done as an EPT for PS 7+, allowing a k-turn but you mark it with a "slide" token that you're moving backwards for your next maneuver at the same speed as your k-turn.

OK, it's official -- I want an X-wing large base Ghost for the Alliance and a Huge Gozanti carrier for the Imperials. With the deploy mechanic coming in the Hound's Tooth , Ghost + Phantom should be do-able.

Characters from Rebels as crew options would be nice as well.

Or possibly TIE Boarders. Those were a thing.

Boarding Craft actually. It was to appear in ANH but was cut, it was to be used by Vader and his troops to fly over to the Tantibe IV to board it.

There was also a two pod TIE Shuttle, we even glimpse it in ESB when Cpt Needa flies over to apologize to Vader. Basically it was a Bomber without the bomb chute and the port pod fitted for passangers.

There were also variant bombers in the comics by Marvel, some with extended pods with spherical modules on the ordanance pod. Some bombers appeared to be flipped in respect to the cockpit and ordinance pods (no they weren't just flying upside down, but it may have been an mistake in art work though).

Don't forget the TIE Lander, also from the old comics, basically a Boarding craft with an extra big troop pod mounted ventrally beneath the two standard pods. This comics depiction is also on a coffee mug that you can get at the Disney Store right now.

There's also the two bomber variants hat have a cockpit pod and two ordinance pods, one with the cockpit flanked by the other pods, and another that's like half of a Punisher with both ordinance pods stacked to the port side of the cockpit.

Still, the Bomber is my favorite 'heavy' TIE (really more of a medium mass given all the other heavier designs). Double chili dog fighter!

Nope, Vader used a normal K turn (it takes all that space to slow his velocity in order to travel in the reverse direction the next turn), but he probably had the Adrenalin Rush EPT in order to use his two actions. (Focus and TL that turn I guess) Also his TIE had the new title with ATC so he could one shot those A-wings. Also Engine Upgrade. It's a shame we didn't see him use any missiles. I was waiting to see the x1 finally live up to that bit of lore.

Good interpretation given the existing rules. But I think it opens up the opportunity for a new mechanic. For example:

Momentum Slide (1 pt, Elite Pilot Talent). When executing a K-turn, you may treat that maneuver as a white maneuver. On your next turn, you must reveal a straight maneuver; your ship executes the maneuver backwards, then receives a stress token.

This effectively delays the stress from a K-turn by one turn and extends the distance by a straight, so you could spin, focus (or TL, or other action), fire, then travel backward additional distance while gaining a stress.

Alternately, if you want to skip the whole moving backward thing, you could have something like:

Koiogran Engagement (2 pts, Elite Pilot Talent). When executing a K-turn, you may treat that maneuver as a white maneuver. At the end of the Combat Phase, your ship gains one stress token.

That grants the action after the K but gains the stress at the end of the turn.

You know, it's funny, but I've been watching this show, and it's clearly meant to be a direct sequel to the Clone Wars series.

The thing is, even though I watched maybe half of Clone Wars, because it was Prequel Era, I never really set aside brainspace for the various ships in it, because they kind of "didn't matter" in my mind.

But Rebels qualifies as Rebellion Era, so whenever ships show up in it, I keep thinking, "Oh sweet, look at that awesome new type of Star Destroyer!" then I go look it up on Wookieepedia and I find out the ship appeared in like 20 episodes of Clone Wars already.

That happened to me again last night:

I was all "Oh man, look at that sweet looking new super Corellian Corvette!" And then I look it up and, sure enough, it's something called a Pelta-class Frigate , and it's been around for a long time.

And yeah, Vader solo'd the **** out of that Rebel fleet.

Honestly, I welcome that, though.

I mean, you are talking about a galaxy-wide war even larger in scope and production in most of its SECTORS than the entire Rebellion-era.

OF COURSE most of those ships will survive into the Civil War period. Naval ships, even in today's rapid turnover, still see service lives 3 or 4 times the career length of any crew that served on them. And the Star Wars universe is famously moribund as far as progress goes - looking at the age of sail, with ships commonly serving most of the way to a century, may be a closer analogy.

The EU attempted to touch on that with the idea of the Victory-class Star Destroyer (hello, 'Armada') and "Dreadnought"-class ships from the Clone Wars existing into the Rebellion period, but...it never really seemed well and fully thought out. And, surely, extremely incomplete at the very least.

What we are seeing here - particularly with the Clone Wars designs seeing refits (noting a few of the ships, for example the Arquitens class which is visibly different from its Clone Wars version) - is absolutely what we'd expect in a realistic progression from the two periods.

So...from a "real world" history geek...this series has been a real delight! It's doing a fantastic job of bridging eras in the way you'd expect to see them bridged!

Oh, it wasn't a complaint. I was just describing my personal experience with the series is all.

The Clone Wars had a ton of great ships (and a few lame ones). I'm a serious prequel hater but I loved the Clone Wars. Sure it could be hit or miss at times, but when it hit, those were some of my favorite Star Wars stories outside of the OT. So far I'm liking Rebels, and I'm way more into that era, but I'm still waiting for it to get up to TCW's quality. But I think it's getting close, especially with the season 2 opener.

Yeah, season 2 opener is on iTunes, now. We picked it up moment it hit, and already watched it.

I mean, James Earl Jones used that much? And **** , Vader was *scary* - like, for real, powerful - for the first time in...I can't even remember.

I mean, James Earl Jones used that much?

Holy ****, that was actually him? I just assumed it was a sound alike.
