What Ships are Left for waves plus other questions.

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

TIE Scout?

Sentinel Class Shuttle?

Skipray Blastboat?

Scuurg H-6 Bomber?

The scout would/could provide a cheap platform for squadron buffs or offering debuffs of their enemies. Kinda like the hawk, but with different slots/role.

The Sentinel probably wont be added now with the Decimator, but one can dream. Unless they make it looking like the REBELS version, ew.

The Skipray was used by all three factions, and would be a cool ship to have BOTH the cannon and turret upgrade slot. It IS called a blastboat after all.

The Scuurg is already shown in armada, just not sure if it would be rebel or scum. Also, regenerating bombs are a plus.

XJ wing just seems to be the same X-wing hull "but better in every way with no sacrafices made whatsoever" and that makes me say no.

T wing? The wookieepedia page says it is like a Z95 but with torpedos instead of missiles. It would have a 5 forward, but lack most of the greens of a A-wing, they cite the lack of maneuverability as being a flaw of the craft. Well, they at least list flaws, so I don't hate it as much as the XJ wing.

R 41? Looks like a shoe, like a high heel without the spike. States that it was to compete with the Z95, and had similar defenses, so once again, 2 shields and 2 hull. It does say that it can equip an Ion cannon, so it might just be a clone of the Z-95 with a cannon slot. Don't like the looks of it though. Sure, you can tweak the dial for different handling, but people will still call it the Z-95 with a cannon.

TIE Avenger, how could I forget! Although it seems to be a Advance with a Missile AND Torpedo slot, and maybe 3 attack. Meh. I like the idea of the TIE that could take the Turret upgrade slot instead. First imp ship to have a turret slot too! (AH, okay, the Aggressor was what I was thinking of. Avenger looks better).

Assault Gunship? Ehhhhhhh. K-wing has more personality.

TIE droid. Pass.

TIE Scout? Good idea. Sensor and crew slot, like the lambda, but on a smaller platform, and with different capability.

Sentinel Shuttle, depends on what design they go with. Also, 8 turbolasers facing forwards? Gulp. Claims to also have a Ion turret behind the neck, and 2 missile tubes, so probably simplify that to one missile slot and one turret slot. Need to be careful about not making it a Decimator clone.

YT 2000, I think the YT branch is saved for the rebels.

Vaksai is already introduced, unless you want more variations of it. I don't think the change in stats could be significant enough to warrant a change though. What about a Rihkxyrk?

Blastboat gotta blast. Honestly, we have gone 3 waves without seeing it, it might just never show up at this point.

And then we have the bounty hunters, problem is we need 2 generics and 2 pilots per ship. Wouldn't mind seeing Jango's old ship reappear. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jaster%27s_Legacy

If the K/P are better ordinance ships than the Y/Bomb, then they replace those ships. If they're worse, well they won't get played

I would expect them to be better, but to cost more points and offer some support to other ordinance carriers. I'm hoping to see lists using one K or Punisher with an element or two of Y/B or TIE/sa backing them up.

That would be what I'd like to see.

They're too big. Just the Nebulon-B frigate would be like three feet long on the table.

Interesting. I was wondering about Nebulon just because the CR90 and the Nebulon B in Armada are similar in size

The Nebulon B's twice the length of the CR90. It looks pretty good on the table, actually.

Even then it looks a little scaled down. But I still say the sacle looks alright as in the feel good scale. You could have a Star Destroyer just a little bit longer than that Nebulon B and it will still look epic on the table.

The only ships I still really want to see are these:

1. Assault Gunboat

2. TIE Avenger

But any of these would be good too (in no particular order):

1. R-41 Starchaser (and R-42)

2. T-Wing

3. Dunelizard

4. Scurrg H-6

5. YT-2000

6. Skipray Blastboat

7. Missile Boat

8. Jumpmaster 5000

9. G-1a Starfighter

No one has mentioned and obvious candidate. I think the next TIE is likely to be the TIE Hunter. This veers away from the lore on it, but I see it as a super fast fragile hit and run ship. Think cheap interceptor/standard TIE hybrid (maybe 13-14 points) but with 4 green dice/3 hull and 2 attack dice, boost, BR, focus, evade. The lore on to the ship is a bit wonky, it should have no room for shield generators or hyperdrive (it is essentially a TIE cockpit with S-foil blades), but it seems to be a super interceptor. I would reposition it's role to being a slightly harder to kill cheap and fast swarmer.

The TIE scout is the ugliest thing ever, may be a TIE vanguard instead? Both are recon ships that could have interesting support abilities.

The TIE avenger just has no real place left in the game. There is no design space for it, as the Advanced and Defender pretty much cover it's roll and abilities.

Why 4 green dice? That can be boosted to 6 or 7 really easily! :(

Depends what you want to consider "left". There's a lot of EU stuff from video games and comics mostly, I mention those because we know what they look like.

are we all forgetting the **** Hot TIE Avenger?

15-500x375.jpg

I would love to see that. Thing is, wouldn't it essentialy just be another interceptor?

I think we're at the point where more ships will be crowding existing roles. What can FFG do to make an Avenger stand out from an Advanced or an Interceptor, or make it an expensive hybrid.

We have the K-Wing and Punisher coming in wave 7, but we already have the Y-Wing and the Tie Bomber.

If the K/P are better ordinance ships than the Y/Bomb, then they replace those ships. If they're worse, well they won't get played, if they have some squirrley new mechanic, then they run the risk of Phantom-ing and again having them dominate existing ship's roles.

Same basic problem faces any new ships they introduce.

The Y-wing already has a new niche with the warthogs so a better ordinance carrier doesn't make it obsolete. Really the Y-wing before the warthog which was rarely played to begin with was usually just used as an ion turret. So I see the Y-wing warthog and the K-wing which looks like it comes with a dedicated turret and which is probably a much better ordinance carrier fill completely different roles.

As to the bomber and the punisher well we will have to wait and see. I imagine if ordinance gets fixed to the point that its competitive the bomber will be the cheap ordinance carrier and the punisher will be the expensive tankier version.

As to what ships are left over. As long as smugglers keep going into rebels you have all of their ships though I don't believe there are any more fighters outside of the T-wing and new republic era starships.

The Empire still has atleast a dozen tie variants, chiss clawcraft, the skipray blastboat, the assault shuttle, a few more large base ships I don't want to have to dig to find or remember but I know they have them.

Scum has the most ships to pull from than either of the other two factions. All the big scum factions tended to use different ships, though there was some overlap.

Also the corellians had more than a few starfighters that depending on you point of view and exactly when during the rebellion era you are looking at could be classified as rebel empire or scum.

I think there are still several waves left.

We still need:

JM-5000 (Punishing One)

G1-A (Mist Hunter)

Ghost/Phantom

Inquisitor's TIE

TIE Avenger

Scum Huge (hopefully Action VI Wild Karrde)

Rebel Aces 2

Imperial Aces 2

Scum Aces?

Q-Wing

The TIE avenger just has no real place left in the game. There is no design space for it, as the Advanced and Defender pretty much cover it's roll and abilities.

I don't see how it has much in common with the Advanced or the Defender (aside from the Defender having 3 attack). If anything, it has more in common with the Interceptor than any other ship. Give it a segnor loop and a new beam upgrade slot to give it toys that none of the other TIEs have access to. They could even give it a torpedo slot instead of a missile to help differentiate it more (tractor beam combined with advanced proton torpedoes would be nuts). Remember, it doesn't really matter if a ship's role overlaps with another's as long as it offers a unique combination of stats, upgrades, abilities, and dial. You have to take playstyle into account in addition to role.

The tricky part moving forward is not only finding a ship to use, but it also having a unique design space.

For example, the missile boat, when translated in game, its stats would be too similar to the Tie Bomber (just less hull and more shields), and the Tie Avenger would be very similar to the Tie Defender (imo the defender stole the stats the Avenger should have had, and the defender having either +1 attack or a unique action to give more offense). This is also likely why they chose the Tie Punisher - an ordnance ship with a unique design space.

I have no idea what they will do for rebels, the K-wing was the last obvious choice. But I'm sure they will pull from some obscure source. There is the Otana and Ghost, but I'm not sure the game needs more fat turrets.

The assault gunboat has a unique design space, and the imps could use more solid mid range ships (tho the Tie advanced does fill the gaping hole the imps had there).

Scum is getting a mid-range ship in wave 7 which is good, I think they need a solid ship in the 15-18 pt bracket.
