Speculation: Convince Me What's Up with the Arcs on the Hound's Tooth

By Engine25, in X-Wing

It's in the title. The HT has a shaded, 180 degree auxiliary arc that faces FORWARD. Does this simply widen his primary? Or is there something new going on here?

Thoughts?

Also, I expect Bossk will be my regular pilot, even before we know his ability.

Looks like an extra bit of auxiliary just like the extra back arc on the firespray.

I imagine the 180 arc will be for the primary weapon, while the "normal" arc will apply to secondaries - cannons, missiles, torpedoes etc.

Think of how the Firespray works, or anyone with a primary turret. They can attack normally out of those secondary arcs (or everywhere with a turret). However, secondary weapons (upgrade cards) must be used in your forward arc. So Hound's Tooth can attack with its primary weapon in 180° forward. Secondary weapons are stuck in the normal front arc.

That is also how I imagine it is setup. We have enough evidence to show that secondary weapons fire in the primary firing arc only. I believe there is actually something in the rules or FAQ about that. The secondary arc is likely to just extend the range of the primary.

Why is everyone assuming the 180 line means the attack is *forward* of it? Looking at the design of the ship, a turret on the back 'platform' part of it would most logically have a rear-180 arc.

My guess would be a ship with the usual not-90-but-close forward arc, and a rear 180-degree auxiliary arc. As with the Firespray, the primary attack is forward and rear, secondaries are forward-only.

Take a second look at the Firespray base, and then compare it to the Hound's Tooth base from the announcement image.

Because the shading extends forward, and beyond the normal arc.

As others have said, the shading on the base covers the front half.

Standard primary arc, two Auxiliary arcs that fill in the sides to form a full 180 range.

i bet this thing handles like a brick, to balance the huge arcs.

Funny, I was just thinking about that. The only large ship with a bad dial is the Shuttle and I doubt this will be THAT bad. If it's close to Decimator or Firespray, I'll be super happy.

Now that there's a second large ship with auxiliary arcs, will there be secondary weapons that can utilize them?

So for auxiliary arcs it acts as another firing arc for your primary arc. Firesprays have 1 primary firing arc and 1 auxiliary firing arc in the rear.

The hounds tooth looks like it has 2 auxiliary firing arcs. One on each front side that gives it a 180 degree firing arc.

I think this might end up being a white K-turn in effectiveness. It will look cool but it wont stop arc dodgers from getting behind and just blowing it up. People will find the decimator does a better job and this won't be as effective as a single aggressor.

The large base is usually the balancer.

well this is clearly the best image from wave 7.

If the full 180° counts as the primary. If the rules simply allow it to shoot out of the primary autothrusters will still work.

It will, it's an auxillary arc, you can quite clearly see from the base. Therefore Autothrusters will not help.

Engine Upgrade, bro.

Anyway thanks to all the responders. I had guessed thats how it would work, but maybe some one might have another idea. At any rate, the 180 forward arc is awesome.

Agreed.

Wow. Just wow. I am officially excited (even more) now!

Looks awesome!

Furthermore, looks like the corners on the range need to be lengthened to match, I think.

I foresee expert handling being a good choice of ept on this ship. barrel rolling with that arc advantage should be pretty useful.
