My gaming group are starting to get more and more into AGOT LCG but often there are more than four of us. Has anyone tried playing with more than four players in a melee game? I am wary of wasting my friend's night by giving it a go if people have tried it and it is unplayable.
More than four players?
It is very playable. I really enjoy five person games much more than four to be honest. When time is not an issue it is a lot of fun to do a six person game with each person playing a different House. The complexities of interaction, not of just the cards, but of the players, becomes a lot of fun, and is very reminiscent of Martin's world.
The more the merrier, one of the best games I played was with 6.
This is very good game for 4-5 playes. We play i 4-5 players game:)
I agree with Dormouse. The most Westeros-immersive expereince is a six player melee, with each player representing a specific House.
Thrones at its best, and there is nothing like it. Cards that never see the light of day in Joust can shine in this format.
Thanks everyone
We'll definitely give it a go then.
2 suggestions for a 6 player game.
1) have a large, easy to accomdate 6 players, AND easy to see play area. Aften player number 4 and player number 1 have trouble seeing each others cards. This leads to mistakes or them never attacking each other.
2) make sure everyone knows going into the game that it is going to move slowly and that some times it might be a long time between actions for any one player.
At the ChiCon tournament I attended, there was a series of 6 player games, with 3 teams of 2 people. It was fantastic (and it doesn't hurt that I was partnered with Stag Lord).
That being said, this game scales extremely well to large multiplayer games. In extremely large gatherings, visibility can be an issue, but in general it's my favorite way to play.

Ah, ya that was some interesting games. Some really broken combo decks too...
