Next Six Chapter Packs???

By EGG2, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I thought that at this stage of the A Time for Ravens CPs(4th CP in stores) that we had heard more information about the next set, King's Landing. I know some info for Princes of the Sun have been released but unless I have missed anything there has been nothing spoiled or even said about the next set. Anyone heard anything?

Hmm, your post maybe was lost in the 4th dimension and only appeared yesterday, but the chapter packs of King's Landing are already out (the first 3 I think) and we have spoilers about the next ones coming.

Maybe he thinks about next set, after Kings Landing;)

A Time of Ravens CP cycle mentioned by OP is there as a point in time reference.

Nothing has been directly spoiled about the next set... but I thought I remember some hints/clues being mentioned in the stuff about KotS and PotS, or maybe it was something else.

But no, nothing official has been spoiled yet. There have been people saying they wanted or thought the next set was going to be Tyrells, Aryyns, NW, etc. but no actual comments from anyone by FFG, just speculation.

Personally, I wish the next Cycle wouldn't be necessarely hard themed, but more akin to the Call of Cthulhu cycle of Julia Brown: strongly themed Packs but very generally themed Cycle

I've thought about what kind of packs I'd love to see, so I'll write here as a suggestion from a casual player and open to your comments...

"Bastards and Sellswords" - a Pack with all the important bastards, from Cotter Pyke to the Sand Vipers, plus Gendry, the bastard of Nightsong, Edric, Alayne, Ramsay Snow/Bolton, the Brave Companions and the usual bunch of mercenaries for the Targaryens. More or less a pack to bring into the game some minor, opportunist characters, of varying loyalty.

"Beyond the Wall" - a Pack with Night Watch characters, Wildlings, appropriate objects and locations, and a Plot to bind them... 20 type of cards would be too few to encompass the whole thematic, though... maybe a second similar pack should follow, or a full boxed expansion of 60 cards... probably a very neutral oriented Pack.

"Isles and Riverlands" - a Pack for minor characters that we love or hate. Tullys, the Brotherhood without banners, Gregor Clegane & C. some Greyjoy ships, and of course some Free Cities stuff like Martell's agents, Sallador Sahn, Dragon Eggs + Hatclings. Sounds like a geographics themed Pack which has something for every house.

"Arcane Knowledge" - a Pack full of Maesters, both affiliated or neutral, Faith Militant, Septons, Warlocks from the east and old crones form every part of the world. Basically a Pack for "Holy" and "Learned" crest characters.

"Honorable Swords" - ...And the Pack for "Army" and "Noble" crested ones: large armies, elite units, hedge knights, champions for every house, some Royce people

I like it but I could easily see each of those ending up as a cycle unto itself. Now I find myself asking do I prefer a very general and loosely themed and not fully exploredcycle where each pack contains 20 cards that deal with the theme directly but leave a lot of things out, or a more developed exploration but whyich will be neccisty contain some only tangentially related cards.

I may be misquoting FFG's position here, but from what I remember (I think it was from the Dreamland cycle preview), the Julia CoC cycle was more of a Core Set patch and therefore an exemption rather than the rule.

Ah... here it is, it was mentioned on April's State of the Game article entitled "Full Circle" (under the Perchance to Dream... heading) by Nate. I'll quote below the relevant part for discussion:

"While the Summons of the Deep Asylum Pack series was designed essentially as an extension of the core set, focusing primarily on the basic mechanics of the game, Dreamlands was designed as a set with an identity all its own."

If the above quote is any indication of what kind of cycles we can expect for CoC's Asylum Packs and by extension other cycles for monthly packs for the various LCG lines...then I would guess that Summons of the Deep is not the norm.

Too bad, however, that AGoT never got the kind of transfusion that CoC got from its first cycle of AP since its Core Set. It seems to be filling its shoes gradually with each new CP and its two expansions, but a whole cycle would have calmed the waters much quicker.

One thing I can say is they seem to learn from their mistakes. CoC had moved to fixed cards a while ago, and that model was then applied to AGoT. AGoT had a rough transition period but got the Core Set firstwith the resulting splash/waves good and bad that caused, and CoC received a much smoother transition with the transitional cycle to fill holes. W:I has no holes and is getting a Companion set that will contain two factions having learned from both CoC and AGoT.

It's nice to know they are listening, that sometimes there is little they can do to help us as we both work our way through undiscovered territory, but that they do take action when and where they can.

All that said, still no solid word about what the next cycle is going to cover. I wonder if they aren't waiting until a firm announcement for the Martell expansion to get peoploe salivating for that again before having people focus on the next Chapter Pack.

The good news is that secrets and spies has been upgrading to shipping now on the upcoming page
