What would you guys think of this?

By Shaneth, in UFS General Discussion

About two weeks ago, I dug up an old CCG (Yu Yu Hakusho) that I used to play. I remember all the good memories and stuffs, so I went online and bought a couples boxes. It was rather cheap cause it's a dead card game at all, but that's besides the point. Anyways, while I was opening packs, I took note of the distribution in the packs. It was the best distribution I've ever seen.

There's 10 cards per pack.
8 common cards
2 rare cards

That's right. There were no uncommons in that game, and honestly, it was all for the better. I mean, I would rather eliminate uncommons from the game and add an additional rare to the pack. Of course at a ratio, one of the rares would be replaced with an ultra rare. Honestly, when games are like that, it seems really organized and easier to obtain cards. Remember, we want great card accessibility.

To be completely honest, I'd probably buy packs more because then there is no doubt that it's worth it.

Sooooooo my homies, what would you think of that?

Well, that's all well and good, but what is the ratio of rares to commons in the set?

My fear is that if half the cards are rare then it might be just as hard if not harder to collect certain rares.

Well the ratio of the pack would be 4 commons to 1 rare.

Say we have a 100 card set. Let's try an example...
Have 75 be commons and the other 25 be rares. Therefore, rares are 25% of the set.

You can fluctuate that around. Like... 60 commons - 30 rares - 10 ultra

Remember you're getting 2 rares per pack.

Yu Yu Hakusho was one of the greatest TCGs of all time...Man I miss that game. Still play with my friends though and I still own nearly every card in the game except like 3 or 4 cards XD

But you have to take into consideration the fact that Yu Yu Hakusho had 5 rarities. Common, Rare, Spirit Rare, Uber Rare, and Ghost Rare.

You misunderstand me.

I ask how many, out of a 100 card set, are rares.

You put a nice number, 25 to 75, which is the exact ratio in the packs. That isn't exactly normal.

Let's take OUR numbers first. Out of a 144 card set, if we group commons with uncommons and rares with URs we get:

40 commons
40 uncommons
38 rares
26 ultra rares

Equalling:

80 "commons"
64 "rares"

True story, but that doesn't always have to be the case with every CCG. I honestly would love to see only 3 rarities; Common/Rare/Ultra. The game would seem more simple and organized than it has ever been.

What YYH Teams you front? I rock Koenma and Toguro. Workin on Rokuyukai right now...

Well even so sir, if it's 80 commons to 64 rares, I expect you to agree that getting only ONE rare out of a pack rather than TWO makes it seem even worse.

sounds interesting. i loved decipher's starter distribution. 3 random rares as a bonus. now this would push into buying starter boxes.

i would definately like more rares per pack. now you just have to convince ffg.

Personally i would love to see ultra rares gone and the same rare ratios...

the only problem i see with this is if there are 25 rares to a set and you get 2 per pack thats 48 rares per box with means people will buy less cause they will have all the rares quicker. When people start buyin less that's when people panic about the game dying. You would almost need some type of ur just to keep people buying.

What you would do there is increase the number of "Card of the Month" offers, or the amount of box-flap turn ins. If not all the cards, rare/promo or not, were avalible right off the bat, then there would be less chance of it dying out.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this idea. I just think that doing this for something that wasn't, say, a Core Set type release would be really risky.

Rokuyukai was my first but Kurama is just to broken not to run so I like running that too. Also had fun with a Sariaski(know i splled that wrong) deck that can win guarenteed win the whole game second match unless for some random reason someone EVER was running Ichigaki haha.

Conspiration is probably my new favorite word

re thread at hand: I like it, only downside is potentially fewer packs bought per person. However, if it works, more people will get in -> more packs will be sold total. Hopefully

Pack redemption would be awesome as well.

I remember back in old-sk00l DBZ. You coud send in 4x saiyan saga booster pack wraps and get 1 of 4 Lv.1 character cards from the Garlic Jr. Saga. My sister and I sent in like... ... ... 20 packs.

That would probably increase sales as not only are ppl buying packs with the intention of getting cards but with the intention of redemption as well. Also, we wouldn't have to toss away that "garbage" on the table when we can just send them in to get more cards.
