Bad Acolyte!

What makes me wonder is that inside this topic, very few post advised to adress the player:

He was a nonsense-maker to begin with; that´s why he was "executed" once and now runs about with a Rank 1.

Did it changed his behaviour? No, it does not. Will any other in-game thing likely change his behaviour? After the death of his first character did not do the trick, it is unlikely that this will do it.

In my opinion, talking to the player is the only option here. Since the GM and other players are angry about what he is doing, all of you can openly talk to him at the beginning of the next session and make it clear that he is ruining it for all of you. Then he will come either stop this or tell you why he is doing it (so you can discuss matters) or you will simply find out that he (the player) is an idiot and you have to decide what are willing to do about that.

I agree, as a DM, I would ask 2 questions:

1) Why is he doing it.

2) Why am I playing with him.

My Pc's do alot of ingame "mucking around" but they know where the line is, generally because we have the in game sanctions but also cos we'll beat up any wayward players and show them the door!

We do like having fun though.

I think Gregarious got it right here. I tried numerous other aproaches in the past and the only really succesful one is to talk to the player, explain that people dislike what he is doing and ask him to either stop clowning around or quit this particular game. Confronting him in front of the other players is not the best solution, that most likely will result in shouting, screaming, throwing things etc.
