Wave 7: Am I the only one...?

By Herowannabe, in X-Wing

... Who thinks its funny that so many people have already decided which wave 7 ships they are going to buy based solely on whether they think each particular ship is ugly or not? I mean, we don't know what pilot abilities they'll have, how much they'll cost (points or dollars), what upgrades they'll have, what that new action that the K-wing has will do, or anything other than a few photos and the base stat-lines, and already people are like "I'm definitely buying 4 of [these ships] but no way am I ever going to buy [those ships]."

People are silly. It will be interesting to go reread threads 6 months from now and see if anyone actually stuck to their guns as to which ships they decided to buy.

Also, am I the only one who wants to buy the TIE punisher JUST so that I can paint the Punisher (comic book) logo on it?

People are self-absorbed and self-entitled.

Fanboys be ignorant and passionate. What'd you 'spect?

They look neat for the most part, but if I was honest I'm not crazy about diving deep into EU lore that most people do not care about to dig up some fan-made ship ideas. I'd almost prefer they wait to use some new stuff from Ep 7 since it's still basically the same era. But as OP said, a new ship is a new ship, and if it's good, it's good. We'll see.

Well as a Fanboy of the K-Wing of course 6 month's from now I'm still going to plan on buying at least 3 K-wings... and even though i'm not interested in the other ships at the moment, if their is a card that will suit my rebel squadron somehow, I may pick up that ship.

It's like S&V, I have no desire to build a squadron of that faction, but there are cards in there that would make it worth buying to me.

I guess it depends on peoples perspectives. The amount of upset imperials is almost laughable...

I'll buy 'em all. I won't love 'em all but I'll have 'em all. I like variety.

Man, I fell in love with Scum so fast when they released. They became my favorite faction almost instantly. I just won a store tourney without losing a Scum ship across 3 games.

And any Imp who whines because they didn't get the TIE DecimatorPhantomAdvancedMarkVI can shove it. They have enough good ships, any attempt to bring in an alternative to the current Imp meta makes me happy, whether I'm playing with or against it. The Imps should be thrilled to get something that I'm assuming will be a small-base tank-type of ship that isn't as pricey as the Defender (most likely).

I said i wasnt gonna get any scum. i caved.

first a syck for the GG tokens... then most wanted, cuz it was a worthy buy, then a starviper... now two firesprays and another hwk. I'm done. Oh another Y. Mistakes were made.

Honestly though, that Punisher looks cool enough to have one. And I love scum now. I might need a med fighter. Looks like I'm getting Wave7...

I honestly started the same way, but with most wanted. I figured "if nothing else, lots of new upgrades,I can field some test squads with my old Firespray and hawk and stuff, see how it goes." I almost didn't even buy it, but man, I'm so glad I did. I didn't even have to buy more than that to discover that my 2 favorite ships are the Scum Firespray and Scum Y-Wing. I eventually got all the other Scum ships, but I can't build a squad without one of those ships in it.

Even though the Expanded Universe are not in the movies they still have been around and thus adopted into cannon by many sources for Star Wars lore. For example the K-wing is in my Star Wars vehicles and vessels guide which was published by Del Ray books and licensed by Lucas Books. But yes the main problem with the expanded universe is that it is from solicited sources and not from the original author. Often if there are multiple sources in one story setting contradictions start to appear and pieces made by different people don't always match up.

So predicting the K-wing was fairly easy call because it has been adopted cannon just like the E-wing and the Tie Defender.

I would ask myself, "Is this a cool enough looking fighter that I want to buy some, put them into lists, and defeat my enemies with them?"

Right now the answer is "not really."

The TIE Interdictor does not inspire me to go out and get them. Same with the K-Wing. To collect scum starts that uphill struggle.

All under the shadow of Star Destroyers looming in over from Armada, which has given me more recent satisfaction and excitement. I'm an Imperial Navy fan... Driving Imperials and Victories is more exciting than driving a TIE Bomber copy paste job. Perhaps my opinion might change when I see them but already X-Wing has been pushed to the backburner due to Armada excitement. It would have taken a Gunboat to bring me back honestly...

I'll be having 2 of each as per usual. I'm actually looking forward to more obscure ships featuring from here on in - I like variety, and I suspect that ffg will have to introduce more unusual mechanics to keep the new waves interesting. I just hope they haven't been scared off that approach with the phantom. With most of the existing roles filled for all factions, they'll need to develop new mechanics to create more design space.

I won't lie though - I was hoping for the scimitar bomber, rather than the one we got.

These ships look dope as hell. Even if I did judge a book by its cover, I'd still buy them for new upgrades

People play this game because it is Star Wars, and uses beautiful pre painted minis. Take either of those away and this game would have a fraction of the following it does. Judging people for not wanting to invest in something that doesn't make them feel connected is equally silly.

Also using fanboy as a derogative is simple. You're on FFGs forum for X wing. You are a fanboy too.

These ugly duckling are going to swan this game. Watch.

No there isn't. Be realistic, if this wasn't Star Wars it would be a fraction of it's size. It rips off Wings of War which was a far superior game. Didn't stop it from being kicked between varied companies looking for a forever home.

Honestly, I've come to really like playing as scum too.

Been playing and learning 2 firesprays and WOW. They're amazing. Its like having a gun strapped to your butt and running around on a COD map.

I'm getting at least 1 of each ship they release until it becomes impractical.

I get a few more of ships I tend to use a lot.

So I will be getting one of each, though as someone who loves the TIE Bomber, the Punisher looks really really cool. I look forward to doing a heavy bomber fleet with whatever ordnance boost they've come up with for this wave.

Take any licensed product and scrub out the Star Wars/Trek, LOTR, Harry Potter, whatever and you end up with a huge drop in interest. That's just how it goes. I only noticed this game because it was Star Wars, myself. And I've played Wings of War, it's not a better game by any means. It has it's strong points but there's a reason it's sat there on my shelf, untouched ever since I got into X-Wing. Might bring it out to play with the family, it's a lot quicker to learn than X-Wing is.

I've been surprised in the past by how good the FFG miniatures are when compared to the pictures of them. The Tie Defender for example looked ugly in every photo I saw of it, I have to concede that the miniature looked a lot better when I got my hands on one (borrowed not bought that is).

Until I've seen the pilot cards, upgrade cards and ships up close, there's no point in making any decisions on what to get.

I'm a massive trekkie but I won't be playing AW because the balance is terrible and model quality is shockingly bad, I like D&D but I won't spend money on it for similar reasons.

X-wing is a quick fun game made by a company that actually cares that's why I play.

I know, I can't stand judgemental people either, they'll all stuck-up morons.

I know right how dare their opinions differ from mine!

I'll buy 'em all. I won't love 'em all but I'll have 'em all. I like variety.

Dammit... You'll LOVE 'em too!!!

I have accepted that, no matter how silly the design, the model FFG makes will look beautiful. And I will want it. Didn't want Epic ships, oops there's my Transport and plans to get a Corvette and Raider. Ooops, there's three HWKs when I only needed 3. Fighting the urge to get a 3rd Imperial Aces and a 2nd and 3rd Rebel Aces pack.

So, I don't really need to see the stat cards or upgrades. I will get the pretty models anyway.

I'll be getting atleast one of each, per usual. However, I have no desire to fleet build any of them, and as an Imperial fan, especially not the Tie Punisher.

There is a big difference between getting the new upgrades, and wanting to field the units. The Punisher inspires neither a desire to field in quantities, nor to collect.

Love the Hounds Tooth, and hell, say what you will about the K-wing, but the model took work. The Punisher is just a lazy copy-paste design more fitted for pirates than the Imperial Navy.

Looks more like something pirates welded together in a junkyard than something designed by

Sienar Fleet Systems. Even if the mechanics are amazing, the model just doesn't inspire fleet building
