"But you guys, the Hound's Tooth is too big in the EU to be a large ship in X-Wing!"

By Comradebot, in X-Wing

First and foremost, I am ECSTATIC to see the Hound's Tooth and Bossk brought into X-Wing. I've always been a big Bossk fan since I was a kid and I've always loved the look of his ship.

But really, the second best thing to come from the inclusion of the Hound's Tooth as a large ship in X-Wing is that we will never, ever have to listen to any go on and on about how the Hound's Tooth will never be a large ship because it's too long, often quoting the size of it from the Extended Universe Legends material, often ignoring the fact that it made a canon appearance once where it wasn't much larger than the Millenium Falcon. These people existed to crush dreams, often so they could instead try to pitch the idea of some obscure EU Legends ship as what should actually be the next large scum ship.

Instead, FFG have decided to go with the more recently established size and give all true fans of "Bad News" Bossk the gift of being able to fly him and his beautiful (if industrial looking) all day, every day, rather than regulate it to sitting on a desk somewhere, collecting dust save for the rare Epic games (which, c'mon, how often do those happen anyways?).

And I hope someplace, somewhere, that entire group of dreamsmashers that argued for the Hound's Tooth to be a Huge Ship are eating some delicious, delicious crow. Meanwhile, myself and others get to sip upon the sweet nectar that knowing they'll never have to play a game without the Hound's Tooth again if we so desire. I mean, I still need to fly some Y-Wings, TIE Bombers, TIE Interceptors, Firesprays, and other beautiful ships from time to time, but it'll be nice to know the option will always be there. Unlike my beautiful GR-75, which has yet to see any action... Poor little guy :(

...Where did the HT ever make a canon appearance?

The Clone Wars episode "Bounty" has it briefly, but long enough to establish it's humbleish size.

Apparently, it's also in one of the canon novels now.

Actually, even the canon size is about 20% larger than the Decimator (which is even larger than the Falcon), and that's clearly too large to fit on the large base at the same scale. I suspect FFG will admit they changed the scale for the Hound's Tooth to squeeze it in when they make the official announcement. The pictures we've seen look like they shrunk it down to match the size of the Decimator.

Clone Wars is part of the new canon from LFL as well. So showing up in Bounty makes it canon.

Aye, but I'm cool with that. The actual canon size would've rendered it in an awkward spot where it could never get released, at least not without creating rules specifically for it. I'd say this is the best compromise, as it brings a semi-well known ship (and character) from the various SW material to X-Wing, and there's not many pilots or ships left that fit that bill.

I'm glad the Tarkin novel establishes Tarkin as a legitimately talented and capable fighter pilot (though nowhere near Vader's level). No clue what ship they could shoehorn him into, but it'd be one more non-obscure pilot that could join the game at some point as more than his upcoming crew card.

I'm cool with it too, but I don't think it was in an awkward spot. It was the perfect size to join the game as the first 1 epic point huge ship. It's a shame they skipped over that opportunity, but oh well.

I studied it in the case for quite a bit, and it has to be almost the exact same length as the Decimator. It hangs over more in the rear (of the base), and less in the front.

It's a good thing I didn't go: if I was in your position, I absolutely would've tried to smash the glass and make off with it.

Well if they broke scale for it, then everyone saying it was too big was right. This would be the first non-epic ship to break the scale.

Maybe they'll stick him in with the Decimator's Tie advance cards... Speaking of that, what if the Decimator isn't coming out until after season 2 of Rebels begins because the Tie Advanced/Decimator will be included in that series?

No need to smash anything; they opened the case for me so I could compare some of the ships. Nothing passed through my hands, though.

Raider, not Decimator. I keep seeing people confuse those two; not sure why.

You know what's going to look awesome? A Raider flanked by two Decimators.

Which are then flanked by two tie interceptors.

And all of it is in a snowglobe in the hands of an autistic child...

And I can't thank the showrunners enough for that. There's a lot of stuff from the former EU they've thrown in that's now established canon. The Hound's Tooth and the Selkath species are the two that really got my nerdbones all giddy.

I think removing the former canon means they aren't beholden to including all that EU stuff, but can cherry-pick all the popular things that worked well while ejecting the things that don't. For instance, Hound's Tooth and Victory Star Destroyers are cool, but the Kilik swarms and Chewie dying are not. So they can kick those things out but bring the former things in, because everyone likes them.

Also they are no longer obligated to depict the Swarm wars, Yuuzan-Vong invasions, or any of the other subjectively crazy things from the Eu. They're building new things and only taking the things that worked.

Plus all the Galactic-Civil War era stuff was just fine happening in the same period but appearing off-screen. I like to believe that Thrawn is still active in the GCW but his fate after is unknown.

StarWars.com lists the hound's tooth dimensions as

DIMENSIONS
  • Length: 47.4m
  • Length: 36.9m
  • Height: 15.5m

Wookiepidia says

62 meters

starwars.com also says

The Falcon is 34.75

Wookiepidia also says

the falcon is

38 meters

I think the starwars site lengeth gives some wiggle room to fit on the large base

The dimensions are whatever LFL tells FFG they are, and that's all really anyone need worry about.

I'll take the Star Wars site over WoTC/Wook any day of the week.

Where the hell does that Z-95 fit though?

SELKATH?!

WHERE?

I must see!!!

It doesn't. Invalidated along with the size of the Tooth being around that of a Gozanti Patrol Craft.

The episode "The Box" has one, and is also hands down one of the most amazing episodes of the series. Heck it's some of the best SW action ever.

It's a knock-off of "The Cube", but with a who's-who of over-the-top bounty hunters.

The episode "Pursuit of Peace" also gives one (yet another bounty hunter!) significant air time, but isn't quite as awesome of an episode.

And sadly, being Clone Wars, they don't speak with their delightful language like in KOTOR.
