Shhh...sooper-seekrit leak from FFG. Preview of wave 8's "TIE: Punishest"

By xanderf, in X-Wing

This thread is fantastic. Nice photoshop work everyone.

It's pure lazy, and that I cannot abide.

This, I think, is why the people that don't like it don't like it. It's not that it's any more ugly than the TIE bomber, it's that the TIE bomber came first and it's a clear variant. A lot of people would prefer some change things for the sake of it ship than something that looks, to them, kitbashy. In many ways the Punisher is a slightly more sensible design than the bomber: the cockpit's in the middle for example and the offset engines would (were it not for Star Wars running on Rule of Cool and thus design practicalities being irrelevant to function) give it more maneuvering ability.

Had this design been first, and the bomber second, people'd be saying much the same about the bomber. The thing is, there's something about the Punisher that to a lot of people looks, well, right. That's why it alone, out of all Galactic Battlegrounds' custom designs it appeared in other material and like the TIE phantom was adopted by FFG.

Perhaps not far off the mark, but I still have a feeling that this coming first would still see some level of ridicule.

The four bomber pods being such a significant design feature, and then to have them just stacked together in a completely-identical fashion that they are...looks silly.

I mean, if they had done as little as giving the lower pods some obvious hatches on the bottom (or like the missile tubes on the bottom of the Scimitar Assault Bomber), and maybe changed the front of the top pods...giving it some kind of sensor-like thing (or maybe making them half the length of the bottom pods, outright, and put a couple of the 'sensor domes' like Star Destroyers have on their bridges in front of them - mounted on top of the bottom pods).

I dunno, I mean, there are lots of things you could do that take this basic concept and make it look less "copy+paste". Basically, make it look like you put any effort into it at all, instead of just copying+pasting to rush something out the door.

Still looks better than the k-wing.

You only say that because you're looking at the false picture that was posted earlier in the day.

FFG has already published an image of the ACTUAL model

this just needs some lightsaber hilts at each wing tip and its journey to the dark side will be complete

Booooooooo!

Needs more pods!

What do you think this is, a K-Wing?

Well. Now I NEED to make that one at Shapeways.

Well. Now I NEED to make that one at Shapeways.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but...why bother? The cast quality of the (TIE Bomber) model we have, now, is already higher quality, and the entire point of the thread is really to point out that...there is nothing here that we don't already have.

You could even make the 'TIE: PunishEST', yourself, right now, with just the existing TIE Bombers. You'd need 10 of them, but...the parts are all completely identical to what is already released, just more of them and stacked together. Couple minutes with an x-acto knife and some superglue, and *bam*, new TIE!

I think when this thing fires, you should have to roll one die, on a hit or crit result, suffer the blinded pilot card effect.

Why?

Because all that ordnance being fired off all around the cockpit would probably blacken the cockpit glass.

Of course, i think the dorsal cannon on the ewing would blind the pilot as well.....

Needs more pods... with some cowbell.

I think the OP shop is better than mine but I had made this before finding this thread. So here's my punishest...

I dont need logic and reasons!!

This is pretty much how I feel. Its like someone stacked four V8s on a station wagon and started screaming "WRAAAAAAAA MOAR POWAAAAA!!!"

Sorry, I just thought that was a funny image and had to share.

#toteslegit. :D

I cannot help but feel that it would look a whole lot better with an additional pod..

This NEEDS to be kit-bashed by someone.

Although, it could probably use a couple more turrets.

And Engines.

And Bombs.

The Y-Wing heads sticking out of it make me lol.

They should probably have added a couple of x-wing wings on the underside.

I don't know what the problem of some ppl here is. The OP has a point, he has an opinion. Why shouldn't he just make it?

I think all the images here are quite funny. So the threads is definitly not useless.

Also i have to agree that the new Rebel and Imperial models both aren't the most creative and aestetically best designed models. You just notice that we are slowly (or pretty fast) drifting away from the original designs.
