Style Guides

By FangGrip, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

While working on my Index I found a lot of help in order to create my document. I also saw a number of people looking for the same information that I wanted: Page Backgrounds, Artistic Advice, Font Suggestions. After it was all said and done, I decided I would post a style guide to help anyone else who wants to create a fan supplement.

On my goodness. So sad I can only like once. This is amazingly helpful and it's only as complicated to use as you want it to be. I need to go back over my own submissions with this guide to get them consistent.

I'm glad you liked it. I got a lot of help here so I wanted to pay it forward.

I tried to keep it as simple and understandable as I could. I am not a professional by any means but I have found a few simple tricks and methods. If anything doesn't make sense, please let me know.

Oh, I'm definitely bookmarking that.

Nice work Fang!

Fantastic... I was on the verge of PMing you Fang to ask for just this!

Thanks so much, now to update my office package!

You are very welcome. I am glad it will help! :D

Okay, so after messing around with Scribus for a few hours and following this guide to the best of my ability, I only have one question for now - How the heck do I deal with the white edges that I can't seem to get rid of? In other words, the page background images are not as big as the page itself, so there's always a white border on one (or more) of the edges of the page. I tried messing around with the margins and attempted to "stretch" the image frame so the background image stretches as well, but I can't see to get rid of the border.

Otherwise, my first two pages look pretty sweet, if I do say so myself. :)

I would suggest using the Master Pages to place the background. You should be able to size the image frame to cover the entire page. I set the background page images at 8.5" x 11" at 300 ppi.

There may be a setting in the preferences that I am forgetting about. While scribus is free, the lack of documentation was a SERIOUS annoyance. It took me more than a bit of fiddling, and I am not an expert in it at all.

If you continue to have issues, let me know and I will try and cobble up a template for you based on the index.
