Two waves, no purchases

By Lord Ashram, in X-Wing

Well, Wave 7 will now be the second wave in a row in which I didn't buy anything.

I have to say... I just have zero interest in these ships.

A) I really don't like the way they look. The Hounds Tooth is interesting, but the rest... not so much. I am amazed that the non-Star Wars movie ships always look so blah to me... some of the worst sci-fi design I've seen.

B) I don't need the cards. I only play for fun, so just proxy what I want.

C) At this point, the variety is solid enough. I don't have an interest in ships that are only mildly different than what has come before.

So... yeah. I don't foresee buying any more X-Wing ships; my collection is perfect as is.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Nope. This boat will have everything.

I agree with you to a point. I have yet to pic up any Scum, (Armada has gotten all my $) but I will at some point, most, if not all those ships (cept for IG-88s) interest me to some point.

But these Wave 7 ships? Yikes! I hope this is some super delayed April Fools joke!!!

This wave practically completes my collection. The only other things I would like to see are Avengers, Clawcraft, and possibly V-wings

I doubt there are many people who called it at Wave 5 still on the forum.

They're chillin' over at Armada.

We all said that at Wave 5. And Wave 4. And a few at Wave 3...

Yeah, I've been over there for a few months myself:) All my money is going towards Armada.

I am also a bit of a rarity in miniature wargaming; I am perfectly happy with a collection that finishes... I don't have the "keep collecting, must have more even if I never use it!" gene that some gamers have... I actually have a "construct a well-balanced and symmetrical collection and then move on" thing.

I have really enjoyed Wave 6, and I'm glad that FFG did that, rather than another, tired aces release. New ships equals new ways to play the game.

I shall probably not go into wave 7 as deep as I went wave 6 but at least 1 of each

If the ordnance fixes are solid I'll buy what I need to get those, but I doubt any of the Wave 7 stuff will be hitting the table in my lists. On the other hand I haven't had a chance yet to get enough of my two of everything wave 6 buy in to the table. So at least there's not another batch of ships coming that will get in the way of that.

I buy 300 points of every small ship and 3-4 of each large. This wave will be no different.

Other than the K-Wing, I think everything looks awesome in this wave.

Will probably buy 2x Int er Punishers, 1x Hounds Tooth (unless they end up being as fun and wacky as the scum HWKs), and 100 points worth of the small Scum fighter. That thing looks awesome. I don't buy or own Rebel ships, that trend will continue.

I joined X-Wing when they announced the Defender and Phantom (my two favorite Imperial small craft). But I have had the most fun with Scum (picked up 2x MW, 4x Scyk, 3x Vipers, 2x IGs, a 2nd Firespray (already had one), and 2x Hwks on release day). Here is hoping these new ships are just as much fun.

So no, I am not in the same boat at all.

Hound's Tooth and K-Wing are day one purchases for me. The Punisher... well, I'm a fan of the classic TIE Bomber, so I'll hold out hope this wave also makes them more viable. Would hate for this to be a simple "replacement", as the Bomber needs love. Black Sun fighter thing... eh, it's not a bad looking ship, but meh. Can't say it instills any real excitement in me.

Hound's Tooth is the ship I've wanted since S&V was announced, and the K-Wing definitely elicits some WWII bomber vibes from me and will be fine so long as that weird little dome thing on the front bottom is in the "retracted" position. It looks silly when that thing is still out exposed past the front.

At the end of the day there will be people that will buy these ships because they like them for just being the ships they are, but mostwill be based on how competitive they are I know i will be

You realise the Epic rules cap you at 12, right? 25 TIE fighters... wow.

I am. The star Viper I bought was more out of curiosity than anything. Last purchase I made with the full intention of running it was the Decimator. The Punisher has kind of killed my interest in X-Wing, that and Scum dominating the wave, at least for now. I might return if they do Episode 7 ships or finally do some ship I've always wanted to have in the game, like the Assault Gunboat or TIE Avenger.

Baffled they went with something really obscure and niche over one of the more popular fighters...

Perhaps, but for myself and I imagine others we also pick up ships because we like to fly them. I see getting only one TIE Interdictor... it's not a ship I feel like flying multiples of. Then again I'm of the thought that I need to see a hot Imperial ship to get me back to being as enthusiastic for X-Wing as I am Armada...

Sorry, I should have clarified that more. I buy 300 points OR 12 of each small based ship.

I have no desire to purchase anything from wave 7, unfortunately I probably will end up buying some just for the upgrades (I'm looking at you IG-88.)

S&V is awesome, and I've been loving it every time I have it out. That release, along with the teasers so far on the TIE Advanced and Raider release, have me more excited about X-Wing than I was in a long time. These new ships, which granted I know very little about in terms of actual story details, look fun and I'm hyped about more ordinance options.

I'll get a few of each small, and one Hound. Easily.

I have no experience of any of these ships. Having said that I expect to be getting 2 of the K wings, 2 of the Tie thing one Bosk and however many of the small scummy one gets me to 100 points. I like the look of all of them and I've had fun with every other ship I own. Still need to get a second Scum pack, and the new Imperial huge ship.

Aaaaannd sooner or later I will have to bite the bullet and get armada, if only to fly a star destroyer.

I wouldn't say it's "baffling": they clearly wanted to have a wave focused on ordnance, and the TIE Bomberoids (because it's like a bomber on steroids!) is something that fits the bill.

I have very little doubt that we'll see the TIE Avenger eventually as some sorta in-between of the Advanced and the Interceptor.

Then again, the Gunboat is marginally more well-known and also could've filled the role of "lots and lots of missiles!". All I can figure is it's because it really doesn't look like most Imperial ships, and visually the Interdictor Punisher looks more like it belongs flying next to other Imperials.

But hey, I'm still holding out for TIE Scouts, too...

I didn't like the looks of the Defender or the E-Wing at first, but I got over it quickly.

Knowing that, I just don't care how these new additions look. I'll get used to them. I might even find some of them to be a lot of fun in play. I'll certainly be getting at least one of each, and as many more as make sense for my play style and upgrade needs.

I wouldn't anything in this wave is going to have anything that is mildly different (Except the TIE, because...well It's a tie.) If you think those are the worst designs you've ever seen, you must not have seen allot of Sci-Fi. Their are WAY worse designs than what FFG has put forward (except for the fact their artists do an amazing job, even with ships that look mediocre, they end up making fantastic pieces of art.)

Obviously the variety wasn't solid enough, 2 weeks ago the top thread list was people asking "What new scum ship are we getting?".

So yea... I see a Squadron of K-Wings on my christmas list.

At this point, I see this wave as purely a fix for ordnance. I don't have any interest in the ships, but I do in the cards that come with it.

Oh, except the Scum. I like the scum ships shown. I do like Scum as a faction.
