Why Wave 7 Is Fine

By Vorpal Sword, in X-Wing

You joking?? That Intesher looks boss and so does the K-wing. I think the Hound's Tooth looks the silliest since they squashed it.

K-wing looks like a WW-2 Super Bomber, and the Intesher looks like some sort of strategic Bomber or transport.

The Interdictor is 4 TIE Bombers strapped together and the K-wing has nine engines.

It's actually only 2 engines - the big ones under the wings. The top, centerline, engine is some kind of afterburner thing allowing it to 'accelerate rapidly in short bursts'. Everything else is weapon pods hanging all over it. Because: reasons.

Even the ones in the artwork that I would swear appear to have turbine intakes(which have never made sense in space fighters but have been around since the X-wing so whatever)? The wookiepedia article talks about weapon hard points but those things all just look like cones, they don't look like they can launch anything.

Well I predicted the k wing so that's no surprise ill pick one up, was totally off on the imp ship but again I'll grab one and try it.

I can see myself spending £60-70 when it's released.

I am sad we still don't have our gunboat but yay for new toys.

Theme matters in this game, but FFG have so far been good stewards in that respect. I'm willing to extend them some credit for that, and wait and see how well the K-wing and TIE Interdictor Punisher carry it out.

Design and aesthetics matter in this game, too, but FFG have also been good stewards there. Their modelers have made some ships I thought I wouldn't care for into things I'm happy to have on the table. So I'm willing to extend some credit there, too.

But at the end of the day, new ships are part pre-painted miniature and part rules package. And while I have some issues, small and large, with what they've done in the past, I'm happy the direction the game is going lately and with a couple of their high-profile decisions, and that means there's a good chance I'll like the effect of the new heavy bombers and Scum ships on the metagame.

So even if the TIE Interdictor Punisher wouldn't have been my first choice, and I wish the K-wing didn't have pylons on top of pylons and turrets in two different, equally silly places, I think Wave 7 will be just fine.

NICE!

:D

What they do to fix ordnance is the most interesting thing for me. Tie Punisher will certainly assist the standard bomber and make ordnance relevant. Can't wait for the spoiled upgrades.

If that new action is SLAM then it's not too hard to predict the certain future ship.

I doubt it's SLAM though.

I do think they look utterly hideous (the TIE and the K-Wing), but I agree also that FFG minis are magic and make me love ships in the plastic that I hated in pictures.

Gorgeous models of goofy ships.

everyone was talking of "Ugly" ships, sounds like we got some...

The reason I think Wave VII is fine is because I've been distracted by the new Imperial Assault toys!

Contrary to my thoughts on all the art I've seen on the K-Wing, I think it actually looks pretty boss and I find myself wanting one.

True, mechanically these bombers are probably coming out to do something for Ordnance. That's probably the biggest dud mechanic in this game so far.

But there's something just as important as mechanics, and that's desirability too. It's what makes me take TIE Interceptors over TIE Fighters, and TIE Defenders over phantoms. I know about game mechanics, but the want to fly a ship is just as important. And the TIE Interdictor does not inspire me to want it. Perhaps if there's some mechanic in it? But almost all of my fighters that I own are ones I wanted to have in my list. This will be the second Imperial ship that I don't really want, right after the Decimator.

After all if Want in aesthetics wasn't a consideration this would be nothing more than a card collecting game, which some accuse this game of being already. I like to think it's more than that.

So, TIE Star Cruiser next?

ONLY if we get this.

I'm kind of disappointed in the ship selection and think they look pretty goofy. That said, I'm sure that even, if it's not anything I'm super jazzed about, the wave will add something fun to the game. If whatever is coming with the new Tie does help the Bomber, which is one of my favorite ships to fly, I'll be quite happy.

What confuses me is where they pull things from. First Rebel Assault 2, now Galactic Battlegrounds, but still no Assault Gunboat and only a weak nod to the Tie Fighter game, which had a bunch of really cool things, including some pirate ships that would have made a lot of sense? I'm starting to think their ship selection reflects one person's very idiosyncratic childhood.

The scale is totally wrong, but thats actually a cool lookin design.

Yeah. After I saw the models I have much more faith. Even the K wing doesnt look as stupid as the wookiepedia images suggest. And the Punisher looks... effing menacin!

I might be deep in Stockholm Syndrome, but I really like the TIE Punishadictor (the TIE Dominatrix, then?). I'm not sure what it is, possibly the sheer brute Soviet functionality of the ridiculous thing makes it perversely appealing. It's like... how much more of a bomber can it be, and the answer is... none. None more bomber.

The Kirashmumble is obviously gorgeous, mind.

I don't know, we can surely fit some more pods somewhere.

Without reading anything more than the first post, my answer is:

IT'S NEW SHIPS...

IT'S FFG's BABY...

AND

IT'S STAR WARS...

and none of those look bad at all really. I still think the Ewing is the ugliest ship in the game.

WHERE ARE THE BEST QUALITY PICS OF THESE THINGS. SHOW ME. I NEED FLOOR MODELS. WHERE DID THAT FORUM POST GO

jeesy chressy

people are complaining about wave 7 ships, after we dodged all these bullets?

yall ungrateful :P

(Seriously, the tie experimental is such an affront it's physically painful to look at)

I have never liked the K-wing, however, I trust the developers at FFG made something interesting that will be fun to fly.

I am Super Stoked for the TIE Punisher and I am very very very excited for The Hound's Tooth.

What's SLAM?

SLAM is basically a super boost.

boost using 2 straight or 2 bank?

Don't tell anyone I told you, but...
