If you don't like Wave 7...

By Wondergecko, in X-Wing

All of this reminds me when the first EU ships were introduced into the game. It was, "I don't want those made up EU ships in my game."

Now it is "I don't want those other made up EU ships in my game."

Wave 7? 7.8/10, too much water bomb.

Yo dawg, I heard you like ordinance, so I put ordinance on your oridnance so you can bomb stuff while you bomb stuff.

I could go on, but then I may run the risk of seeming like I don't like the wave 7 ships. I actually do (and lets be honest, we can't criticize the K-Wing for being ludicrous without calling out the B-Wing also).

Still, liking the ships doesn't mean I can't call out how absurd they are. Again, not a bad thing (IMHO). This is a setting with space wizards wielding laser swords. I think we can let the K-Wing slide...

Edit: WOW my post had a shitton of spelling errors. How do I get more errors when posting from my computer instead of my phone?

I originally didn't like the k-wing, but it looks a lot better as a model.

Everyone just needs to relax, granted the ships aren't the prettiest and pale in comparison to others, but I'm OT guy so all EU looks bad in comparison nor was I very excited about Scum when announced but each time the sky is falling and the tsunami of anger is raging and each time FFG delivers, no its not always perfect and you can't please everyone. But each wave has expanded the game and atleast to me shown the quality of their work, i didnt like everything like HLC dash or old phantoms but I could only say that after I got to play with and against these builds. We're putting the cart way before the horse when saying about how much they screwed up and no amount of nerd rage will make them change the ships now so best to chill out some and wait and see.

tl;Dr chill out we haven't even since a upgrade, pilot ability, new mechanics or dial even then wait til you all the info (remember how much people thought the shuttle was gonna be OP bc of it's stats)

ps sorry if any typos I'm on my phone

Edit:**** google voice you suck

I'm just grumpy about the K-wing. Worst ship ever...

Yeah, I'm not too happy about it either. Thankfully, I play Empire pretty much exclusively, so I will get to spend my time engineering methods to destroy the K-Wing.

Now, I do hope that the K-Wing does not come with something essential towards fixing ordnance, so that I don't 'have' to buy it in order to give my TIE Bombers the love.

Voting with your wallets won't work in this case unless you do quit X-wing. Every ship you buy goes to the same place, so for every decent ship you buy, you subsidize the ones you hate. Plus, most people will want the cards enough to stomach buying ships they'll never fly (star viper anyone?). So, this is one of the few cases where voting with your dollars probably won't work a bit.

I think you're right about the second part - that people will want to buy upgrade cards, but if people do dislike Wave 7 as much as the initial response seems to indicate, FFG will still feel it. While all the money does go to FFG, even if more people wander over to Armada, they'll still notice it in the purchasing patterns

And Hobo, I'm going to take you up on the moaning. Holy cow this was a horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible decision. I can't believe a design team actually agreed to produce a K-wing. The mind boggles.

FFG obviously monitors sales like every other major company. If people are buying more of, Say Wave 2 stuff, than they are of Wave 7, there going to take note, and produce new stuff comparable to what wave 2 had to offer(Which I guess they already did for wave 2, look at the ACE packs), but new and compelling so that you will want to spend your dollars. Also if you buy into armada your buying into FFG, and some of that money will be distributed to people who work on X-wing.

I can't believe your stupid enough and dense enough to want to quit X-wing over a single wave. This isn't like gaming workshop where you are forced to play by the new Codex. I'm almost certain a TIE swarm can still take a flight of K-wings, we'll just have to wait and see.

So kindly shut up and let me enjoy my K-wings.

Ok, but they're still ugly.

So, having had a night to process the announcement and think on it somewhat, I'm still pretty much

The Kihraxz is probably the best-looking ship in the release, but I would much rather it was in Black Sun colours and we had a Dunelizard or Krayt to continue the Scyk Scum colour scheme.

Similarly, the Hound's Tooth is probably the most predictable new addition (given it's appearance in the Armada preview). It's still an ugly-looking puppy though, and it'll take more than an interesting 180 auxillary arc to make it a must-have addition.

K-Wing and TIE Interdictor... yeah, no thanks. To be honest, the Rebel forces are pretty much exhausted now anyway, and with the exception of the TIE Avenger (which would fill what design space, exactly?) I'd much prefer to see the Imperial forces start to move away from the TIE series anyway. There's much more interesting Imperial ships out there which would fill the ordnance role which aren't TIEs.

The first X-Wing announcement which holds little interest for me so far.

Should have had Black Sun colors. I'm also curious why the Vaksai wasn't chosen, seems like Kihraxz was lighter armed and armored than xwing.

Otherwise, I'm fine with this wave.

Sure, the ships are not sleek but I'm keen to get an ordinance fix. Always loved the importance of torpedoes in SW combat narratives. They need to be a viable part of the game.

I have to agree with Mikael Hasselstein. Yes, the hyperbole is thick enough to cut with a knife, and for some people, the sky is falling (I guess). No need to be a PITA about this. I don't agree with Nightshrike on much, but I don't think she(?) deserved that.

If you ain't on board nobody cares.

:P

SCUM%2BWAVE%2B2A.jpg

I'm gonna be all up on that SCUM GLORY... and nobody cares , which is fine.

Big Daddy Joe gots him a HUTT CARTEL TO BUILD!

^_^

They could look like a turd with wings for all I care. If they bring something new and interesting to the game, I'll love them.

yep I still got a bunch of HWKs and a few Stars Vipers... i mean the HWK looks like a pre-schooler designed it with left over legos... and the starviper??? well its just odd looking... I personally dont mind the wave 7 ships. however i do mind that the Raider is taking forever to get here!!!!

That laws void since he appeared in gods not dead a film all about being dicks to atheists.

im concerned about the frequency of new ships and the changes they have on the game. It is needed but does it need to happen quite so fast? There is power creep with pretty much each new expansion which means to stay competitive u need to buy them. I love what they did by adding the scum expansion. I personally want more scum upgrades. Maybe these will be a regular feature of each new expansion from now. I dont hate wave7. I hate that FFG has me locked into buying more and more ships. I think im past the point of no return. think im up to 35+ ships. The thing i object to the most is FFG placing hard to get upgrades in the epic expansions. i havent played one game of epic ever but i still own the two epic rebel ships... i just wanted those new upgrades so bad i bought them. I wonder how many ppl out here did the same. never played epic but have epic ships?

Keep in mind all the ships in the original trilogy has been used. There is also a reason why all these other "cannon" ships were never used in the movies. They don't look good.

Now they still look like Star Wars ships even if they fell off the ugly branch of the family tree, however I am not concerned as the aesthetics still match up what I am concerned with is the mechanics and how they affect the meta.

Right now I see almost like a typical patter post wave 4 (which possibly had the largest affect on the meta) as something that may have some cool options but will not really make a dent in the competitive scene. Fat Han and Whisper are still the scary ships (even though Whisper has been hit with the nerf bat). Imperials have their own fat turret ship which is just an imperial flavor of big fat turrets that was already established in Wave 4. The way I see these ships will either do one of two things.

  • Become powerful so that Wave 7 ends up introducing power creep
  • Become so ineffective they are used as much as defenders

So as the eventual spoilers leak out (non which will appear on X-wing companion though) and Vassal gets programmed with these spoilers we will figure out how they will work.

Thankfully there isn't a single Star Wars ship in the new release, so I don't have to worry about hating SW ships.

First off I take this statement as saying nothing in this wave is canon, but the Hound's Tooth is in TCW which is very much SW.

Well, I don't actually hate the Hound's Tooth. I've been too focused on the K-wing. The TIE monstrosity is pretty bad too. The Kihraxz is a poor, poor decision. They absolutely should have gone with the Dunelizard or the Vaksai instead. Both way cooler, and the Dunelizard makes way more logical sense. Not sure why they made that call. The K-wing is the only one I truly despise with every fiber of my being. But I see no reason to purchase any of them. And I hate the K-wing so much I may just not play the game rather than see it on tables.

wow the flame war is real with this one.

u got pissed that they didnt put in the Duneli what ever ? i tell u why they put in the khiraxz cause it was the first enemy ship u encounter in star wars galaxies with ure hold on to something thight so u dont fall of ure seat, of ure M3-Interceptor BOOM !! mindblown heh ? yeah u were one of these tansarii smuglers defending it against the Black Sun makes fluff/lore/canon wise 100% sense iam sure we will see the Dunelizard someday he will fly differently for sure but as medium fighter they got the right choice.

that hate against the K-Wing is something i wont understand for the rest of my life i guess.

1. its a star wars ship

2. its a STAR WARS ship

and 3. it brings fixes along it being the first small turret primary ship aaaaaaaand a new ability a new game mechanic to the game i would say win/win for us all.

even if i hate Rebel Scum i have to admit that the K-Wing looks appealing to me.

maybe we will see in wave 8 the Dunelizard another bounty hunter

for Empire the Assault gunboat that has the Kwing ability

for rebels maybe another veeery strong elite ship the H-Wing and there u go.

Edit: sorry for mah bad engrish Cheers,

Ah man, if simply being Star Wars is enough to justify inclusion I hope wave 8 has Star Tours!!!!!

I really love that ride.

Oooh, grammar beat down.

Like/dislike of the ships aside, we have been told that Wave 7 brings ordnance fixes. I am very excited to see what these fixes will be.Ordnance has potential to be a very fun and possibly high risk/high reward system for the game. Now, it is over costed and has little benefit.

I'm glad they're bring ordnance to life .. as far as I'm concerned, the vehicle in which they deliver this is irrelevant.

Touche.

When it comes down to it I guess I'm sore because Scum is having all the fun in this wave and the only toy the Empire getting is a cut-and-paste job of the bomber.

Little love for Imperial X-Wing fans, it seems. And now we have to wait half a year for the chance to get a prettier starfighter.

there is a 3rd faction to soak up some of the goodness so there is less to go around the other factions. for a long time imperials got the most love... intercepter, shuttle (which gave us imperial only rebel captive and vader crew cards), phantom and defender. Rebel players got the B-Wing and Hawk and not much else unless you loved playing falcons and loading them up with upgrades like C3-PO, engine upgrade and gunner.

Scum is getting its time in the limelight now. Thats all good. Imperials will get some love again soon. The tie-advanced fixes will surely make the ship playable in top lists again.

Could of been worse at least we didn't get that k wing ;)
