Wave 7 X-wing put Armada on top

By Imperial scum, in Star Wars: Armada

So...just saw the new wave 7 ships for x-wing. I played x-wing from the beginning and the new wave of ships pretty much helped me decide to devote my time and money to Armada. I enjoy both games but leaned more toward Armada and it's play style. X-wing is stretching too far into EU and turning me off. Probably will still buy 1 of each wave 7 ship to collect, but really losing interest in the game. Anyone else feeling this way?

I will continue to buy and play both, although I hope that FFG spaces releases out a bit more. My wallet feels like Mace Windu getting blown out a window by Force Lightning.

Will still be playing both ... X-Wing Wave 7 also raises my hopes for another fighter pack that will give my Zaarin Insurrectionists their trademark TIE Defenders in Armada...

They had to go into the EU at some time and they have to keep going there if they want to move the game foward and on their "out of the box"-track (which is why they don't got for mutiple packs of the same ship)

hahahaha

The dreaded K-wing cometh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but yeah, spend too long on any game and you're bound to get burnt out. Take a break if you need to

The EU is the lifeblood of continued releases, so I feel the exact opposite. Bring on the EU ships. Armada is already going to be full of them after 2 waves.

Love playing X-wing, and doubt I will ever stop playing it, but I'm not a big fan of the EU. So, I'm pretty much done buying new fighters in X-wing for anything but new cards.

I absolutely agree these games have to delve into the EU for more material, but with each new wave you start to lose the heart and soul of Star Wars. I'd prefer adding more to the existing products then releasing obscure ships. The tie fighter hasn't been touched since wave 1 and would be great to have an Aces pack. A book of missions would be great. The games called x-wing and barely anyone uses them anymore (aces pack of rogue squadron would be fantastic). Armada fleets will at least have recognizable ships even when EU source material is used. What empire fleet isn't going to have at least some star destroyer variant?

Yep, done with X-Wing. I can play thousands and thousands of fun games with the ships that I recognize and like. The new ones are just ugly and don't interest me.

With Armada I'll probably stop after only a few waves as well, but I am fine with that. With all the upgrades and stuff, there is a lot of replay in these games. If I REALLY want more, I'll construct a campaign.

Truth be told, I started to get turned off to X-Wing when they were releasing scum ships. Not strictly because they're EU, but I'm more of an Imperial Navy and I'd like to fly the popular EU ships when they're depicted. It's nice that for instance the TIE Advanced is finally becoming playable.

But this TIE "Punisher" is a joke. They're depicting something that was a hacked-together placeholder design for the sake of game mechanics.

So when faced with the choice of stupid TIE Designs and scum or Imperial Star Destroyer driving, it's not a hard decision.

That was about as helpful as a nose-hair brush.

I'll let you live because your name has Imperial in it.

I will still play both, people are complaining before they know the ships or new mechanics and cards that will be brought to game .

It's a filler wave. They're scraping the bottom of the EU barrel now, and biding their time until they are given permission to announce their Episode 7/Force Awakens stuff.

I predict wave 8 will be ships from the new movie, along with a new Core Set.

For Armada, wave 3 will probably be that new Star Destroyer from the new trailer, unless they decide to stick with Galactic Civil War era. Then I have no idea.

Yep, same here. I think IA probably has further to go before hitting hides EU crap than Armada though.

Bloody hell, FFG, bloody hell!

the VSD is EU. So Armada started it from Day one.

The only issue any game has is power creep. But I am investing in this game for the Mini's first, and the game second. So a long long time from now in a gaming place far far away, armada might be dead, but i will have some nice Star wars models

If you're turned off by X-Wing's venture into the EU and that's making you lose interest in the game as a whole, I'd have to ask why you're turning to FFG's other Star Wars ship-focused miniature game. Their direction for this game is not going to be fundamentally different than it was for X-Wing - it's most likely going to be exceedingly similar. I'm not saying this to criticize you, but actually to warn against investing into Armada if your desire is to find a game that will stay away from EU and stick to iconic movie ships. There were very few capital ships in the movies and, as pointed out earlier, they started the Core set with an EU ship (The VSD) and are adding multiple EU ships with every wave (Assault MKII, Raider, etc). If anything, this game will spiral into obscure EU content much, much faster than X-Wing did.

The difference I see between the 2 game systems using EU content is in X-wing you could have a game of scum syck fighters and a star viper versus a HWK with e-wings and at fist glance wouldn't be recognizable as being from the Star Wars universe. Empire (especially) and rebel fleets have distinct looks. A VSD is still recognizable as a star destroyer. Never said I was quitting X-wing, just devoting time and money more on Armada as I love the mechanics and look of the game.

I don't understand people's gripe that they will focus on Armada because they hate EU, yet people love the VSD and are begging for the Dreadnaught, Carrack, Lancer, and Corellian Gunship. All EU.

For X-Wing, I felt like Norsehound. I was looking to get into X-Wing, then the Scum set came out. I'm a Imperial vs Rebel Purist, and a strictly Imperial Player. I already am not a fan of the Rogue set coming for Armada, but I won't buy any and they honestly will be fun to hunt when playing against.

I honestly like the Khrazz Fighter. Always have liked its looks.

Just two days ago I offered up a $100 bet that Wave 7 and Armada Wave 3 would be mostly Episode 7 stuff. Nobody took me up on it.

I'm choosy about my EU- I like the ships that I'm familiar with based off my personal history. I played Rebellion, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, Empire at War, and even was old enough to remember playing Rebel Assault 2, which I believe was the introduction of the Phantom. Point being, I like the ships from those sources because they hit nostalgic chords for me. These ships (x-wing wave 7) don't, so they aren't appealing to me. Which is a relief, because I was worried how I was going to stay up to date in both Xwing and Armada.

welp we're going to have to deal with the EU eventually

it might as well stand for entirely unavoidable :P

I personally love the fact that they are using ships From Empire at War. I dont mind them using EU things. There are so few ships from the original trilogy that are iconic enough that they will HAVE to go to the EU for inspiration

The punisher is a turn-off because it's a hacked together franken-design. I appreciate well-designed ships with originality but the basis of that ship was born out of a gameplay gimmick to upgrade fighters, and they wanted to show a clear progression out of the TIE Bomber. *sigh*

Fortunately capital ships don't get really silly in the expanded universe. For myself I can't think of a design I don't want to see from the Imperial and Rebel liveries. Much as I think the Carrack, Dreadnought, and Lancer are rather boring designs I'm not opposed to their inclusion. I would be opposed to going to forces outside of the Galactic Civil War though.

It isn't that I'm turned off by EU itself. I mean, I absolutely love Thrawn and hope to see him in this game ASAP. I just don't like ugly designs. And yes, I know it's all in the eye of the beholder as to what is ugly versus what's nice looking.

A lot of the X-wing EU stuff just doesn't look like it fits in with the rest of the Star Wars fighters. But that's okay, because I can buy exclusively my movie ships and a Headhunter here and there, and play all he games I want for a very long time. It doesn't sicken me to see other EU ships across the table from me, I just don't personally want them, and won't spend my money on them unless there's some upgrade cards I can only get that way. I'm not opposed to Scum and Villainy myself, already bought a Starviper for the Autothrusters, and actually kinda like the ship as well. But, my money is way too tight to go hog wild on this faction, I do like the ability to move so many existing ships over to S&V thanks to the box.

As far as Armada and the EU goes, it's the same decision process for me. I know the Vic is an EU Star Destroyer, but it still looks like it could fit in. The Assault Frigate, AKA the battle guppy, not so much to me. A nice thing with Armada, is I can easily stick to primarily movie ships, and again just snag an EU design here and there for cards again, and be perfectly happy. I did mention Thrawn, yes?

I'm really not looking to play 1000 point games right now, and if I do I can easily do it with nothing but ISDs and various TIEs versus Mon Cals and Nebs and Blockade Runners and Rebel fighters, and be perfectly happy all the live long day. And, be perfectly happy for those of us wanting everything EU has to offer, as it will just help keep the game going.
