FFG jumps the shark?

By xanderf, in X-Wing

I still cannot wrap my head around the fact FFG passed on both the more iconic Assault Gunboat and the Skipray Blastboat.

The Assault Gunboat isn't iconic really, none of the EU ships are and the Assault Gunboat, like the TIE avenger, fails to stray out of the XvT series.

The Skipray is a large based ship.

More importantly, neither fulfill the superbomber role FFG seemed to want, so they may well not have been passed over.

This, basically.

This is a bomber wave, that's the only reason the K-wing and eggbox are in.

That's not actually correct.

The Wizards of the Coast "Rebellion Era Campaign Guide" RPG book includes them:

They also appear in the 'Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia' (vol III)

And they make an appearance in the 'Jedi Knight' PC games (specifically, the 'Secrets of the Sith' expansion)

And of course, it's worth pointing out that they did appear in ALL the X-Wing series games, from the very first release straight through to 'X-Wing: Alliance'.

So...that ain't nothing.

It was mentioned in the Jodo Cast interview that the Tie Bomber was going to get "some love". How much you want to bet that the fix is a title card or something that works with the Tie Punisher and the Tie Bomber? Something like a title card that works with Tie Bombers....which the Punisher is also a type of Tie Bomber. How much you want to bet that the whole reason the Tie Punisher was picked was because of this "fix"? It makes total sense for them to use a blister to go back and fix a ship that is already out and not used much before they introduce a new ship like a gunboat.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR APPLEDOUGH

Wave 7 wins

Wave 7 wins

Wave 7 wins

It always wins

The TIE Eggbox wins!

Well i'm glad nothing here interests me, since Armada will cost me a lot.

So if I own 4 TIE bombers now how many of the new ships will I need to buy to fix them? But what if I want to play both the new and old bombers in the same Epic game then what?

Now that we know what the fix is going to me.

Please please please tell me the K-Wing and Punisher comes with a bunch (x 4 each) of the new upgrade "Extra Munitions"

whats the fix? I must have missed it. link?

Pretty much everything shows in sourcebooks. In terms of actual appearances, what does the Gunboat have outside XvT? (I suppose a Jedi Knight expansion does count.)

It's a shame really, when you paint it white and make it look as Lambda as possible (see Fractalsponge) it's a really, really nice design. If I could find a nice model I'd stick it in Empire at War.

Fractalsponge's assault gunboat is freaking gorgeous! Thanks for the heads-up on that one. I think that's the first gunboat I've ever seen that I really want to buy.

Best thing about this wave is it looks like I only really need to buy one silly looking Krack-wing I'll never fly for the upgrades and 1 Punish-er. That gives you two Extra munitions cards which should be enough. I don't think I'll ever run 3+ bombers in a squad.

Stop being wrong, it's not Secrets of The Sith and I sure as hell never saw any Assault Gunboats in it. R41s? Yes. Gunboats? Heavens no.

It's called Mysteries of The Sith.
