FFG jumps the shark?

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Dunno about the rest of you, but I've been genuinely wanting the K-Wing since Wave 1. It's such a hodgepodge ship that boils down to "how many guns can we strap to this?" that I've been fond of since I first saw a picture. Therefore I am ecstatic for this.

And the Hound's Tooth looks interesting with that apparent new firing arc.

I suppose this is as good a thread as any to post in, but does anyone else notice the horizontal line across the base token for the Hound's Tooth? Like it has a 180 degree secondary arc.

Not just that, but there is something wonky about the front arc of the K-Wing. Almost like two arrows pointing together. And I can't help but think that the top action there is something we haven't seen before.

Early prediction: the K-Wing will have a unique action to fire two shots from two different turrets.

I have a hard time imagining they'd give the K-Wing that ability, while the Decimator, Falcon, and Outrider (who have obviously FAR more separated turrets) can only fire at one target at a time.

More likely, it's related to the top engine, supposedly allowing the K-Wing to 'accelerate rapidly in short bursts'.

Maybe something like a boost, but which can only use the 3-straight template, or something like that.

Another possibility, for sure. We'll just need to wait patiently for a news article to drop so we can get more details.

TIE interdictor. It will always be called the TIE interdictor. (Even Age of Rebellion called it the TIE interdictor)

To be fair, they needed two bombers they hadn't made to do the ordnance fix. The K-wing was obvious given we have the E-wing (it's the one -wing left) and the Interdictor really isn't that bad.

Then we get the Scum fighter from Roark Garnet's card and Large Ship Bossk.

Looks to be a good wave.

With two S&V's... like many of us predicted-expected!

This is all good IMO!

:)

They're scraping the bottom of the EU barrel now. This is a filler wave, biding their time until they're given permission to announce their new Episode 7/Force Awakens stuff.

For wave 8 I'm predicting ships from the new movie, along with a new Core Set, to signify the slight shift in era, bring the rulebook up-to date, and a have new, complete, boxed product to put on shelves while the hype train is active.

This is why I am waiting to buy a second core. Really hoping for a new core with the x wing and tie fighters from the new trailer

They need to dump their stupid policy regarding the prequel stuff. There are way more players that would love to buy Naboo and ARC-170 fighters and LAAT gunships and Vulture droids and Tri-Fighters and Geonosian fighters (Clone Wars) then there are players that even know what these ships are let alone wants to buy them.

Their policy is to make things they think are cool. So if they're not building certain ships, then they must not think they're cool.

Or they haven't heard of those ships. But in the case of the prequel ships, this hardly applies.

I have a shapeways kwing and it's great. The only thing I don't like is the bubble cockpit and bubble turret. The rest is great.

Love all 4 ships. Wish we had better pics.

PS...

would have been great to have the "wide" based kwing and the "long" based Hound's tooth. Sadly, that game mechanic seems destined not to be...

What makes me happiest about this it that it kills that ridiculous wide-base thing people keep trying to assert.

EDIT: Speak of the devil, what timing.

No TIE Avenger in wave 7. Time to visit Shapeways.

The two Scum ships aren't scraping at all. The Rebel and Imperial ships are what they are because they needed two bombers to release the bomber fix.

I was originally kinda passed that they went with the Interdictor since I've been waiting for the assault gunboat and it would have been a prime candidate for bringing an ordnance fix. But now having seen the Interdictor from other angles, I kinda like it. However, I think it's about time I gave up hope on the other ship I've really been hoping for, the Tie Avenger. I'm totally ok with both the Scum Ships, though I was hoping for something like the R 47 Star chaser or cloakshape fighter. This next wave is not what I expected but I don't think I can say I'm really disappointed either.

One of which COULD have just as well been the Missile Boat.

Nothing here I see myself buying, unless it's for some upgrade I really want for my other ships. None appeal to me. A couple look silly and others have no "star wars" look to them. I have been buying fewer of each ship since they went to EU, this looks like were I stop. I guess it means I can funnel all that money to Armada.

Of course scum has plenty of stuff to depict... and they aren't wasting their time doing it by eating up half the wave and giving us... the dregs? for the Reb/Emp fans.

If they wanted attractive ordnance carriers they should have given us the Assault Gunboat or the Scimitar.

I'm in it for the Bounty Hunters. Bring on the Punishing One and Mist Hunter as well.

This. Bring the Punishing One posthaste!

I hope FFG is pulling our legs in regards to the TIE Punisher.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/TIE/IT_Interdictor_starfighter

Wookiepedia even mentions that the TIE Interdictor (TIE/IT) was mentioned in the RPG Sourcebook, Stay On Target, as the TIE Interdictor, not the TIE Punisher. (If that's the case, who's gonna be the top "named" pilot -- Frank Castle? Leave it to Disney. :) )

Hounds Tooth is the worst looking one hands down. It's like they put wings on the ******* sandcrawler like what the ****.

Interdictor looks dumb, but not as dumb as the Hound's Tooth. It looks super dumb though, looks way too clunky and huge. There are still a handful of cool looking TIEs left. Missile Boat, Avenger.

K Wing is a bit silly but I'm okay with it. T Wings and even the H Wing look better though.

New scum fighter is the coolest of the bunch.

Kinda glad they moved to ships I don't find that appealing. I got into the game with the intention of buying enough stuff to play some cool battles with my son and use ships from the movies. I gave a pass to wave 5 because I knew the Defender and Phantom from computer games.

I remember the Hound's Tooth from a micro machine set, but I'm lost on the rest.

I'll fill out my stuff and move on to Armada or Imperial Assault. Either way, FFG will be seeing my money.

OK, I keep reading "But what about the XG-1/Missile Boat/Skipray/Scimitar" and fair enough...the first three I wouldn't mind seeing at all, based on what I've seen on Wookieepedia. But those are all Imperial craft.

I'll grant that the K-wing isn't exactly the most beautiful craft ever and the "mount ALL the hardpoints" look isn't going to appeal to everyone, but I don't mind it myself.

My question, for those with more exposure to the EU than I have, is this: was there really anything else in the Rebel arsenal suitable for a new ordnance carrier craft?

Well, the most obvious choice would have been an ARC-170 updated from the Clone Wars. Has a touch of that 'LOL - turrets, u mad bro?' sort of look to it, but...well...more believable and streamlined.

Another option would be a Skipray (while it was originally an Imperial design, sure...it was also heavily used by the Rebels and Scum faction - think something like the Z-95).

There were definitely some other choices.

(I mean, that said, I don't hate the K-Wing. It's ugly, no doubt. And looks a bit silly - I honestly hoped that, if FFG had picked it up, they would "fix" it the same way the modified the Z-95 model to be more consistent with other designs. But it's not the end of the world - I can see the Rebels building a ship like that, if needed, and it will look just fine flying next to some E-Wings. But that TIE:Pu, though...UGGGGH. Think I'll just wait for the follow-up model to that one...)

It should be noted that FFG fixed nothing of the Z-95. They just used the Star Wars Galaxies version.

That second one looks more Lambdalike, although more like someone sat on a Lambda.

Storyline wise, the Missile Boat, along with the XG-1 Assault Gunboat are manufactored by Cygnus Space Works. The same company that manufactures the Lambda Shuttle. It would make sense that asthetically they would look related.
