FFG jumps the shark?

By xanderf, in X-Wing

The term "jumped the shark" is so over played. Everyone screams it as soon as something they like does something they don't. Not a fan of the K-Wing but I was never a fan of the Black Fleet trilogy either. Will still get at least one to check it out though.

So you're suggesting thet the term "Jump the shark" has nuked the fridge?

Can anyone read the statlines on these? Maybe the actions? Anyone with a BS enhance tool?

Also...... am I the only one that was hoping for a Corellian Gunship?

They need to dump their stupid policy regarding the prequel stuff. There are way more players that would love to buy Naboo and ARC-170 fighters and LAAT gunships and Vulture droids and Tri-Fighters and Geonosian fighters (Clone Wars) then there are players that even know what these ships are let alone wants to buy them.

I think they are more concerned about the players that would quit if they had to face anything prequel related.

A Corellian Gunship would be an Armada release.

For me the shark got jumped when the first TIE Mary Sues were released in Wave 4 (Defender and Phantom). Still I own 2 of both and can't sleep at nights.

People are talking about the Missile Boat but WHERE IS ASSAULT GUNBOAT?!

...........................................

Defender is hardly a Mary Sue, and the Phantom was barely known before the wave was released......

You bite your tongue, sir! I spent many an hour helping Rookie One assault Imdaar Alpha and bring the menace of the Phantom (see what I did there?) to light!

I'm fine with these ships overall but I have been *really* wishing for a Skipray Blastboat or an Xg-1 Gunboat for the Imperials for the past year. I'm out of ideas for Rebel ships, the K-wing I think will bring enough variety to the board.

Not to say it was unknown, but with an astounding 2 appearances under its belt, it isn't exactly the most known ship........

Once you see the pictures, you'll fall in love with these ships. They look really nice.

You misunderstood me. FFG did a fine job with them. I don't like them in the lore and that's important to me.

Fair enough, I suppose.

The Defender sure as hell was originally a Mary Sue (Missile Boat > TIE defender > TIE avenger > everything) was the TIE Fighter Mary Sue Hierachy, and the Phantom was also presented as "the rebels will die if we make this" in Rebel Assault II.

Which for the phantom turned out to be kind of accurate for a long time.

The best part in RA II was when Vader force choked the super weapon inventor to death, not for incompetence or failing to succeed at a mission, but because it was physically impossible to carry out the order he was given.

"Undock from the space port."

"...We can't. The docking mechanisms have been destroyed."

"Well then, incredibly valuable asset to the empire, you must die!"

I think it's very fair. Yes, dissenting opinion is cool...we're not droids here. However, I've been in enough fan communities to see that reasoned criticism isn't the usual first response, it's "ZOMG!!!!!111! <Insert name here> STOLE MY CHILDHOOD AND CLUBBED BABY SEALS!!!!1!". Given how little actual information is out there (e.g., was anyone at the announcement able to see the stats?), I'd welcome some reasoned criticism.

In a case where the initial negative reaction appears to be aesthetically based, I don't think the actual information you're referring to will change minds. I absolutely respect the opinion of anyone who is all in to buy this wave - it's just not something I care that much to see on my own table. I'm still in with FFG and X-wing overall, and am fully amped for the potential sequel trilogy stuff as well as any more Aces packs to come... Just wave 7 will mean a lot of proxies at home or hitting the secondary market for cards. Honestly though - right now I think you and I are currently arguing on behalf of far less rational, alternate universe versions of ourselves. ;)

Could be a huge ship

Yes, that is most likely true :)

The last few waves have featured lovably ugly ships. The Scyk fighter is incredibly ugly. But that very quality of ugliness is kind of transcendentally beautiful. I'm sure the K-Wing will grow on me over time. Especially if it comes loaded with awesome ordnance that's actually worth taking.

The funny thing is that personally, I think the Scyk looks pretty good........ once it's been repainted.

So on a cursory look, the K-wing has only one named pilot: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Miranda_Doni (Miranda Doni) pretty sad history about her though.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Esege_Tuketu and http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Skids were a K-Wing team from the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Caregg_Oldathan and http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Danen were a K-Wingcrew from Leacy of the Force: Fury

Being a named K-Wing crew member seems to be a death sentence though. Tuketu and Skids launched a suicide attack to take out an enemy shipyard while Oldathan and Danen were last seen launching an attack they didn't expect to survive hoping to delay the retreat of a ship, which had launched a massive asteroid at their world, long enough for the rest of their unit to catch it.

Even though the K-Wing is my least fvorite Wing series fighter I don't really hate it.

I'm in it for the Bounty Hunters. Bring on the Punishing One and Mist Hunter as well.

I suppose this is as good a thread as any to post in, but does anyone else notice the horizontal line across the base token for the Hound's Tooth? Like it has a 180 degree secondary arc.

cool so lots of pilot possibilities.

Hopefully it's an auxiliary arc, which would use the same rules as the rear arc of the Firespray (Outmaneuver doesn't apply, etc.)

Not just that, but there is something wonky about the front arc of the K-Wing. Almost like two arrows pointing together. And I can't help but think that the top action there is something we haven't seen before.

Early prediction: the K-Wing will have a unique action to fire two shots from two different turrets.

stop ******* complaining.

Yep. Looks like the primary has 180 fire with normal 90 arced ordnance.

I just wonder why FFG/LFL passed up many other popular and more loved Imperial designs for something forgettable like this TIE Interdictor. It's there as an upgraded bomber for a forgotten game, nothing more. Why is it here?

If you need more bombing stuff why not give us the TIE Scimitar?

If you need more forward shooting ordnance why not the Assault Gunboat or Missile Boat?

If it's just filler, why not the TIE Avenger?

Many other, better, more attractive options than this dud. And if they keep on this track and give us the TIE Oppressor in Wave 8, better hope that SW7 gives them some more ships to jump tracks to. because the Oppressor IMO is the bottom of the barrel.
