Actually I would recommend giving Gratuitous Space Battles 1 a shot to see if you like it first. The graphics are not that much better in 2 and most aspects are the same. Also I m fairly sure that there is a Star Wars mod for it too!
My main gripe with 2 is the price - it's a little indie game with very limited replayability so spending $25 on it really feels wrong, and I love spending money on stuff I don't need!

I bought Gratuitous space battles a while ago. Got bored with it once i unlocked most of the things.
really hard to give things the right commands. about midgame the thing turns into a mess. by the end all you have left are the big ships and maybe a handful of fighters. Really not much tactics to it since you cannot control the ships in the game. and repairing mid game is pointless
really not worth $25 IMHO

Edited by kinnisonI have GSB 1. I played the tutorial and have not gone back to it since. It was fun and funny, but it just didn't grab me. It was probably the "line 'em up and press start" mechanic that I thought would interest me, but ultimately, did not.
Get a SW mod for Sins of a Solar Empire instead. Now there's a game I always come back to.
I have a fun game thought up for the X-Wing forums, hint hint, it involves lovely X-wing play time and campaigns and objective play!
