Wave III (Or More Wave II?)

By TIE Pilot, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Well, this is unexpected. I hope they have some uses for campaign as well!

They should be just like the other packs released so far, with mission cards and a mission map that can be included in any campaign.

While I'd be inclined to agree I can't imagine the campaign having a mission to unlock more storm troopers. Or maybe it will include an Agenda deck focused on upgrading Trooper units.

Based on the formula thus far, It’s got to be a campaign mission.

It'll probably be a mission that grants you a trooper attachment reward.

I don't mind expansions aimed solely at skirmish mode when they're just the same unit included in the core set. Seems perfect to me.

Well, there's no way I'm not buying a pack of everything. Even if I've not tried skirmish yet. Those Wookie Warriors and Hired Guns look too much fun!

Those hired guns are the most exciting thing I've seen in the FFG announcements these last few days!

I'm not getting the hype for purple clothed rodian mercs. Can someone explain what I'm missing?

I hope the Wookies come with a scenario that takes place on Kashyk. It also lets you make an all wookie force led by Chewie! :)

I would really hate to be an Imperial Stormtrooper in that game.

For my part, it's nostalgia. My main character in SWG was a rodian, so I'm very glad that we're getting Rodian mercenaries.

1) Adds variety to the Mercenary faction that needs more troop types.

2) Anyone who has played Dark Forces II will remember blasting these guys in the earlier levels

3) Greedo jokes across the table!

Pretty much the equivalent of us making phi-wings, rho-wings and tau-wings.

Oh, and that pi-wing a few pages back.

The rodians should be useful for open groups in the campaign at least. First ally/villan pack that seems like it might see regular play outside of skirmish. Maybe the troopers too if you like to play with tons of troopers.

I was really hoping the Rodians would be a 3 unit deployment card for scum. That would give us one for each faction. There's still a chance with Jawas someday!

A few pictures I took of the slides for the new announced packs.

Guess you can't use the rodian minis in the campaign since the reward for their mission is mercenary ties.

:(

Kinda bummed.

Who knows they may be on a side mission in the next Twin Shadows sized box, but this time we get the figures before the tokens ;) .

The other good news is the campaign is not competitive so just talk to your rebel group and include them as optional deployment groups when selecting open groups. Maybe we'll even get an errata stating so? :)

Not sure how that precludes you using them in an open group. They don't appear to be marked as unique figures. AFAIK uniques are the only ones that you have to earn.

I believe there's something in the campaign about only using non-unique deployment cards available in the core set unless rewarded as a mission reward.

So you can't use three sets of grey storm troopers etc.

Not sure how that precludes you using them in an open group. They don't appear to be marked as unique figures. AFAIK uniques are the only ones that you have to earn.

Check out page 8 in the RRG:

"In a campaign, players are limited to the number of figures included in the game. For example, the Imperial player is limited to six regular and three elite Stormtrooper figures, even if he owns multiple copies of the game."

Unfortunately there’s a couple of rules lawyers in my group so house rules don’t exist :P

Besides, maybe FFG made them skirmish only troops for balancing purposes. Who knows.

Unfortunate :( Gamers who don't want to game with more toys.

Hopefully FFG errata's the rule book to allow the hired guns then for your sake at least :)

I find it very difficult to believe that they would add models to the game that you COULDN'T use in campaign mode. Perhaps Twin Shadows will alter the deal. Pray they alter it further.

EDIT: If you read the article, they mention to the fact that they can be used in the campaign as unlockables:

Wookie Warriors:

The Brute Force side mission gives you the chance to assault an unethical Imperial facility on Kashyyyk. Then, if your mission was successful, you can call upon the Wookiee Warriors in future missions .

Let's just hope they thought of the Hired Goons Guns.

I would allow common sense to take over and allow the use of the figures. If you interpret the rule as base game only figures then twin suns would be unplayable because you couldn't you the figures included in that expansion. If the rule covers expansion figures then twin suns becomes playable and you can use x1 hired gun and x1 trooper expansion in the campaign.

We will get a FAQ for this before the packs are released.

Regarding Twin Shadows, I hope we will be able to use the heavy troopers in different missions of the main campaign... but the Raiders on Yavin, or any other planet than Tatooine, would just feel wrong...

I read that to just mean that you can't flood your open groups with lots of cheap Grey card Stormtroopers, even if you physically have the cards. It's a bit ambiguous, and you could read it to exclude the use of, for example, the Hired Guns, but I don't think that's the intent of that rule. They are trying (for balance purposes) to prevent Imperial players spamming too many figures with low threat cost per figure.

I believe the Raiders have a trait where they can only be deployed on maps containing desert tiles.

Well, they have a trait that says "Habitat: Desert". What that really means is still just a guessing game.

It could mean that they can only be played to maps with deserts, but as a hard rule that would be problematic for Skirmish. That being said there's nothing that says what that ability means can't be different for Campaign and Skirmish.

I'm more inclined to believe that a"Habitat" keyword will mean that that is their preferred environment and they take a penalty outside it. That way, Ewoks can have "Habitat: Forrest" and just be fish out of water elsewhere.
