Unlike the Bomber it can't go down in one round of concentrated fire.
It's only got one more hull than a Y-Wing and I see those burnt down in a single round all the time.

28 points isn't much of a power ship.
I tried a few times with 6 ties + support:
Royal Guard, PTL, hull upgrade 28 (would probably switch to Thrusters now at 27)
Buzzsaw shuttle : Omicron, FCS, Gunner 28
Turr Phenir, VI, autothrusters 28
It does work.

I don't see Y's or B's burnt down in one volley very often. At the very least a Punisher is harder to burn down than a bomber.

it is with 6 buddies
So 6 TIEs and an Omicron with gunner and FCS is pretty good, seems to force more damage through than an HLC would.
You stumbled upon my secret weapon.
This is the list I run when I mean to cripple my opponent, and the list that I am bringing to Regionals.
At first I put it together for aesthetic purposes, as it looks as Empire as you can get, but man oh man, this list puts pain on the table. It's hard to put your back to a mini swarm of 6 TIEs, yet ignoring the Shuttle puts an unanticipated amount of damage into you.
It's hard to choose which to face, and in the end the only list I have ever lost to was a true TIE swarm due to time limit and a bad choice I made in the early game with the Shuttle.
I call this list the VIP Escort.

It's pretty brutal. I lost to triple Interceptor also, crucial arc got blocked and was stressed, so next turn I had no option but to green onto an asteroid. Got pretty close to killing one or two Interceptors though.
or go for the "Meta" power mini swarm.. 4Bs and a Z...
1.) 5 Ships isn't a swarm. I don't like the term mini swarm either, it makes groups of 3 and 4 TIE Fighters seem like they're better than they are.
2.) I wouldn't consider BBBBZ a 5 ship build either. I mean obviously it has 5 ships in it, but it's just a BBBB with a Z 95 as its upgrades to game MoV.
But yes, BBBB builds are very strong. All of the attack power of a swarm concentrated into fewer, bigger attacks on ships that can't just be killed in one volley.
Until Extra Munitions comes out: 6x TIE Fighter, 1x Gamma Squadron + 2x Homing Missiles.

Tell me how it works out.
I saw someone use a similar squad at one point with 6 academy pilots and a shuttle with a Flight Instructor - not because it's such a great choice, but more because the idea of a 'training flight' was interesting.
Captain Kagi can't affect FCSs
What? Why is that? I did in fact not know that since the last time i saw Kagi on the table was... Never!

Wasn't it FAQ'ed back then?
I saw Kagi in action only once. And that wasn't much of action.

Because of the way Kagi is worded, he has to be a legal target for the enemy ship to lock onto for his ability to work. FCS limits itself to the defender and only the defender, so it's impossible for it to lock onto Kagi.
Palob with Recon Spec, VI, Blaster Turret is 28.
Palob with Blaster Turret, Moldy Crow, VI is 28
Serissu with HLC, Heavy Scyk, Swarm Tactics is 28
Drea with ICT, Unhinged Astro is 28
N'Dru with Lone Wolf, Engine Upgrade, Homing Missiles 28 (probably one of the weirdest choices for this kind of list).
So I'm definitely excited to try a swarm+ with that new Advanced that denies range one bonuses. That seems so huge, you blast into range one and no more 4 attack dice B's.
On that note, I'm surprised no one's mentioned Carnor Jax yet. No PTL but you can take Autothrusters, TC, Swarm, or maybe Decoy for 28 points. I guess he's a bit fragile if you aren't taking thrusters, though.
Also, maybe Jake Farrell with PTL, Predator, Test Pilot, Chardaan is 28. A weird choice but a fun flanker.
6x Bandit Squadron
Jek Porkins + R5-D8

Started out with Palob and the normal Moldy + BT build, but I changed over to Outlaw tech instead to get that focus for the BT. Cheaper build, gets you more fun for another ship :-)
I'm going to be flying a Swarm+ tonight. Thinking 6 Academies, and a Cutlass Squadron with AC and a Conner Net.
Any better ideas for the Cutlass?
6 banditos and a procketless jake w/PTL VI and Thrusters.
Or instead of Jake a GSP w/prockets thrusters PTL and crack shot

If you went with a Scimitar with Extra Munitions and a Conner Net instead of that Punisher you could make those 6 TIEs Obsidians instead of Academies.

This arouses me.
The problem with pairing 72 pts of APs with a sigma is that the sigma will go down so fast you will feel like you lost 2 ties on the first two rounds. You might manage to get a 4 dice shot in, but the sigma will most likely be dead next round regardless. Pair this up if you like running an uphill battle from round 3 onwards.
