Swarm+

I'm going to be flying a Swarm+ tonight. Thinking 6 Academies, and a Cutlass Squadron with AC and a Conner Net.

Any better ideas for the Cutlass?

If you went with a Scimitar with Extra Munitions and a Conner Net instead of that Punisher you could make those 6 TIEs Obsidians instead of Academies.

The problem with pairing 72 pts of APs with a sigma is that the sigma will go down so fast you will feel like you lost 2 ties on the first two rounds. You might manage to get a 4 dice shot in, but the sigma will most likely be dead next round regardless. Pair this up if you like running an uphill battle from round 3 onwards.

If you fly him in formation; yes. But when you push him down a flank your opponent has a choice; try to kill the sigma and get flanked by the swarm or face the swarm and give the sigma room to manoeuvre.

Regardless, it is the same as pushing off two ties to flank the opponent. If he decides to face your sigma, you lost two ties right there.

With Stygium and Intel Agent on a Sigma, you should be able to skate by, especially at range 3 with focus and evade.

I ended up going with a Black Eight Squadron Pilot with AC and Autothrusters. Problem was that in the first round I got a bye, second round my opponent had to leave in the opening 3rd of the game, and last round it ended up facing the wrong way for most of the match and didn't get many shots off.

I think for the 28 point ship you may want to throw in a ship capable of damage spiking an ace instead of an AC boat. I was also thinking about using AC to intentionally miss with flechette torpedoes and keeping them with Munitions failsafe while still handing out the stress, may help with Soontirs. Or just a Cutlass with Homing Missiles and EM.

The nice thing about the Punisher is that your opponent has to concentrate on it. If they shoot at a TIE or two and then next round switch to the Punisher they'll have accomplished nothing.

I have tried it with 6 APs... I have always lost my sigma really early. People see a Phantom and they want to put it down ASAP. But I guess if you fly well you can probably make it survive more. I could never play it for long enough to make it gel with the squad.

Where is Jake Farrell?

Jake + PTL + Refit + Autothrusters + VI (PS9) = 28 points

Just 2 attack dice, but you are in range 1 with a focus and target lock most of the time. Definitively one of the best ships
