Swarm+

This thread is devoted to an idea I had. 72 points of swarm ships + 28 point power ship. You're still flying 7 ships, but one of them is beefy or powerful and makes up for the loss of the 8th ship.

72 points of TIEs + Sigma Phantom with Stygium and Intel Agent

72 points of Z's with an Outer Rim Smuggler and a 1 point upgrade (Tactical Jammer)

Any other ideas?

Captain Kagi + Intel Agent or Tactical Jammer. Should shut down FCS Gunner/ Corran Shenanigans. The 72 points of academies of course.

Captain Kagi can't affect FCSs

This seems like a good idea: bringing a swarm of TIEs, but not as big as a true swarm. So it would be like a swarm, but in miniature.

It's not so much a "swarm+" as a miniature swarm. Maybe you could call it a "mini-swarm"? It has a kind of ring to it.

and a single Tie is a swarm-mini then?

For Scum:

6x Z-95

1x StarViper w/ Autothrusters (or Stealth for an even 100pts)

I've been curious to try something like this out as well, curious and frustrated. That's because, in scum, the only solid 28 point offering is ICT + Crow Palob and...Scyks. ******* Scyks are such a bitter disappointment (outside of the little cannon cartel, soft spot for him :)).

6 ties (2 academy, 4 obsidian) + doomshuttle.

I have had limited success running the doom shuttle, howl runner with swarm tactics, an alpha (I know bizzare), an academy and two obsidians. As with all swarms, it struggles against fel and phantoms....but it is not bad...

The Tarnation build is a swarm+ build. 6 Z's and Tarn Mison with an R7 Droid and a hull upgrade.

For scum you could go Torkul Mux with an ICT, Moldy Crow, and an Intel Agent and 6 Z's.

The Raider will bring plenty of options for 28 point swarm+ ships.

What about Biggs with a an extra hull or R5-P9 and 6 z's?

So I'm definitely excited to try a swarm+ with that new Advanced that denies range one bonuses. That seems so huge, you blast into range one and no more 4 attack dice B's.

Pretty much every game I've ever played is with Howlrunner + 3-4 Academy Pilots, supporting a single 30-45 point ship.

Any fewer ships on the board seems like too few. I think it's also a combination of Wave 1 squad squad building habits, plus only owning 1 of each Imperial expansion.

*shrug* For Kagi's ability to work, he must be a legal choice for the Target Lock, and FCS rules out everyone but the defender. Sucks, but that's how the cards are worded.

For the B Wing one, I'd go with E2 and Gunner. Seems like it would force more damage through. Or FCS and E2 with Weapons Engineer.

Scum definitely has some good Swarm+ HWK builds.

Not quite the right amount of ships.

Xizor, VI, FCS, Intertial dampeners, Autothrusters, flechette torp

5 binayre pilots.

I need to buy more z-95s, it would seem.

So 6 TIEs and an Omicron with gunner and FCS is pretty good, seems to force more damage through than an HLC would.

The idea of swarm+ is not only that you're flying a swarm that's improved over 7 base ships or arguably 8, it's also that you have the minimum amount of ships to be considered a swarm plus something else.

The nice thing about the 28 point ship is that it doesn't seem to get focused down first, so it kind of has free reign. If halfway through a game your opponent tries to kill the lambda it might be too late.

Torkil with EU and ion turret

Torkil makes the best enemy ship inside range 2 ps 0 and the z's eat it alive.

If Tokil can ion an enemy you set up the swarm to crush it next turn. EU on Torkil means if he survives until the end he still has enough maneuver to get shots.

Scum HWKs bring a lot of options for a 28 point swarm+ ship. Rebel HWKs too.

The K Wing and Punisher are also in a good price range. Generic Punisher at 2 PS is 21 points. Add a Homing Missile and Extra Munitions and you've got yourself a very strong ship. Unlike the Bomber it can't go down in one round of concentrated fire. So you should actually be able to get those two homing missiles off before it dies, unlike the typical, "I put 4 missiles on this bomber, it's going to be sweet!" situation where your opponent just focuses it down in one volley before it even gets a chance to fire anything and then you have to pretend you're having fun for the remainder of the game lol.
