Difficulty in Assembly

By sladerlmc77, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi guys,

I'm brand new to this style of gameplay, but excited to be joining in with Armada.

Last night I cracked open the core set, but ran into some trouble when trying to assemble the fighter squadrons.

The tree posts are tiny, and I'm having some trouble socketing them into the base. Looking at the assembly instructions, it looks like they're *possibly* supposed to be mostly circular, shaved on one side, to socket directly into the base and NOT rotate. (If this is the case, I imagine you rotate the disk to be at the correct location that the arrow points.)

On the other hand, I could also see the peg being perfectly circular and having the peg rotate to point the arrow at whatever number is supposed to be selected.

The problem is, none of the pegs seem to fit in any of the base holes, no matter how I rotate them.

Has anybody else had this problem? I feel like somehow I'm missing something obvious, but it really seems to me that the pegs don't fit.

I'm afraid the only way I'll be able to make it work is to either shave the pegs or drill the bases, but I'd rather not do either.

Help?

You should email FFG with your problem. If the pegs are really faulty, they will most likely replace them.

My core had the lower pegs (with arrows) as half-circles. This makes the arrows fixed in a single direction and the cardboard dials need to be rotated underneath them. Hopes that helps.

Your issue sounds like the same one my friend had with his core set. He could only slot a few of the stands into the bases, and those that did go in would twist (they should be fixed to a single position). I'd contact FFG about getting the stands replaced.

From what I recall when setting mine up, the arrows always point perpendicular to the activation slider, and it should always point to the same side of the base (there is a Fantasy Flight logo on one side of the activation slider on the bottom of the base, but I can't remember if the arrow points toward the logo or away from it). You might see if you can get one to fit in the base, then see if that makes it easier to get the rest fitted once you see which way the arrow is supposed to point.

I had a couple of pegs that would have given me difficulty if I hadn't know which way it fit in, so your pegs may be like that. I've also heard that there were some people that couldn't get their to fit, so your may actually be faulty. If that is the case, I recommend contacting Fantasy Flight customer support to have them replace your pegs. The one time I've had to contact customer support, it was a very painless process.

If you point the arrow on the fighter stands forward, the FFG logo will be to the left of them. They will ONLY go in in THIS way. You might have to push a bit to get a good connection. If they do not go in that way then you have an issue.

I can sympathize. When I was putting my fighters together I found that certain posts just didn't seem to want to fit into certain bases. Luckily they worked in other bases and everything evened out. I could see it not working out so well for someone else though...

Nickvr628 - Thank You!

I had rotated the peg 360 degrees trying to get one into a base, but with your orientation instructions and the knowledge that a bit of extra force was necessary to socket the peg, I was finally able to build my squadrons! I wish my eyes were as good as they once were, I really did think I had defective pegs!

I did have one broken TIE fighter in the bag, but a dab of super glue fixed it right up.

Thanks again for the help, all! You've made me feel very welcome!

Yes. there is a shaved/flat edge on one side of the peg (shape is like a D). just rotate the peg until it fits properly into the base. took me a little while to figure that out, but once i did and noticed the shape, they all fit in the bases.

The peg for the fight squadrons that fits into the base is an known issue. I created a topic about it last week, if you message FFG, they will send you replacements. I took a hobby knife and turned the half circle on the base into a full circle and now have 0 issues.
